  • Here is a demo from the all Mighty Roland MC-505 Groovebox, made using my the User Patterns that I've programmed to the sequencer in the years between 2002-2014. The MC-505 was recorded dry and without any external effects or processing.
Some patterns are better than others and some are down right cheesy. The selection is quite broad from VNV Nation to Todd Terje and from Swedish House Mafia to Hardfloor.
Most of these patterns are more thank decade old, so the "performance" might not be most flawless ;D In the most cases the selected sounds are not perfect either, I've used the MC-505 sequence my other synths so on many cases the the parts are played by external instrument.

The 505 is so much fun to work with. I have to fix mine, the screen died. I haven't been able to use it in years. You just motivated me into looking into fixing mine. It's such an incredible machine!

I'm sitting here with an MC-505 in it's original box that I was thinking of selling... after seeing this video, I decided to keep it. NIce Enjoy The Silence tribute by the way!

Massive sound for anything trance, house, techno maybe the best groovebox ever made ! (although here the user plays the main role)

Nice! I used this machine extensively for my project Rise of the Automaton. This 505 is capable of so much and it kind of sucks how much people look down on the earlier Roland Groovebox machines. They are much better than people realize. The learning curve can be a bit scary at first but once you figure them out they are a lot of fun. The 505 is the best one in my opinion. I've also used 303 and 909 but this one I used way, way more often. These machines do have some limitations and even some built in sounds that seem like something no one would ever use but the good stuff far outweighs any negatives. Cool to see someone else used one for so many years as well. Nice video man! Good stuff.

i Have not seen anyone on youtube used this one with a Roland JDXI- The sounds and beats work close and a lot of the functions are working good together. The MC 505 can even control the JDXI and change sounds on the synth and even the Dbeam controller controls the JDXI sound output for a 100 procent!

Very nice song tributes! Love the Tron Legacy version. I don't know how you remember to manage this machine so well after all these years.

Wow very nice demo wonderful patterns! Thank you for sharing.
BTW I have a couple questions for everyone.
(1)Years ago I bought one (used). Later it began having problems primarily in lighted buttons. Some times more than one would light up etc. Is this an issue contact cleaning can solve?
    (2) 505 sounds fantastic in this video but I feel mine sounds well, brittle? Low-Fat? Coarse? Tired?
I understand it shares the famous JV1080 sound architecture but TBH, its sound(presets) is a little disappointing. I am sure I will have to delve into sound programming. Any advice? Thnx in advance! Once again, fantastic video!

This is awesome. Can you share patterns or presets on these? Love these tunes, a few I've never heard. Thanks for uploading. I'm interested to know what stand you are using as it seems rigid. Cheers

Thank you for the Love! ☺️ The stand I’m using is Millenium Laptopstand. It’s a cheap but sturdy stand and I got two of these from Thomann as they cost next to nothing 🙂
