- Here is more Roland MC-303 Groovebox nostalgy, this time I play some custom patterns I've programmed during the years. Oldest are almost as old as the machine itself, the new ones I just programmed to show some of the sounds.

Very nice demo
Fantastic. Just shows its OFTEN the skill of the USER. Not the equipment. Give this to someone else. And it would end up in the exchange shop in a few weeks. While guys like you can make these killer grooves. Nice work. The Sexual healing type groove and Radio Gaga and West end girls were OUTSTANDING. You should have been a programmer for Roland. Sales would have gone NUCLEAR for these groove boxes.
I bought one of these new.
Still remember walking around the city with the box under my arm, thinking I was about to get rolled.
Later I would collect a whole studio full of 2nd hand analog synths and drum machines, but would always find a use for the old mc303,
i understand, mate
This cuts. F&ckin’ great.
Brilliant
Great!
Amazing Patterns - They Make this Groovebox shine
Mate you are the best !
I love my Mc303 .Nice to see someone else rocking it...
Thank you for this. I got one of the first units that arrived in France. I was 16 years old. I dreamed about it. It was my first piece of gear. I used it with a small Roland keys controller, and played on stage with my (French!) metal band, Throner. Very special to me.
Amazing! As a one-time little raver and now an old man, this is really great to watch and hear.
That bass coming in at 4:13 made me so nostalgic and happy. great job :)
Thank you Phil! This box has made me feel nostalgic as well. It's been years since I've used it, and now I want to do a proper 90's cheesy rave track with it :D
And then you find a gem in the end! Nice demo with Prodigy!!
❤
Really great demo tracks for this little machine! The last two are outstanding!
These sound awesome . Not sure why people give this machine such a bad rep. I got it for 150 and can’t say I’m too disappointed
Yeh there great eh.
They are lazy with no SKILL or IMAGINATION. That's why. They want to just press a button and everything happen for them. This guy shows what can happen. When you invest some time and have some talent.
Well I love mine, But there is a learning curve. I keep forgetting how to do things.
People just like to hate on the 90s. You just had to be there to appreciate it.
@@Slackboy72 i was only a young kid in the 90s but it was an awesome time. I bet it was even better as an older teen or younger adult. SO much good music and parties going on
Some of the best coming out if this little box.
Nice work.subbed
Great work!
Great demo of the MC ! Nice work
I recorded a song doubling this up as a sound module controlled from my
MT-100 sequencer/sound module to beef up the MIDI tracks in 1998. Gave
it all heaps of resonance...@
Very good demonstration, thanks!
That's awesome 👌.. dang.. you got me with the second song !
this machine sounds really good
Excellent man love it, especially the prodigy sounding one, been fartin about wi my 303 lately, why do people never sing with them playing minted tunes is beyond me, my lyrics get pumping almost immediately when fartin about wi my groove box lol. Great stuff mate.
Great patterns
I just got one of theseee this is so inspiring
Best demo of this box so far :-)
drifter7508 Thank you :)
Really is
Absolutely Brilliant
Where are you located?
Woaoh! Great demo! You prove that this piece of gear sounds great if it is well used. Also, you had good inspirations with Pet Shop Boys, Queen, Kraftwerk, The Prodigy and even Alcatraz... It even sounds rather new at 2:11. This can be played on the radio nowadays...
That groove from 2:11 is lifted from an old 80s Marvin Gaye tune: SEXUAL HEALING
Fuckin great
The Omen cover is brilliant!
nice groove
Good work! ;)
Jean-François Hicter Thank you! :)
I've just ordered one and after watching this video I can't wait to play on it. If I get anything half as good as your tunes I'll be well happy
Awesome! Great to hear that you found this inspiring! 👍🏻🙂 I’m sure you are going to like the MC-303 🤟🏻
@@tiergrinder having never owned anything like this and knocking on 50's door, Im really just looking forward to jamming on it. Honestly I can't wait to get it lol
@@cunnyfunt30 how have you got on?!
@@carls7860 Not got it yet, have been waiting for 2 weeks as UPS seem to be having a melt down. Apparently its coming on Friday
Don’t forget to use the arp with drum sounds!
Nice!
Nice.
The sounds you made with your mc 303 has made me get mine back out the cupboard, you've really proved that its not the machine and its me 😂😂😂😂
Brilliant work mate, loved the sexual healing and radio ga ga especially
wow!
dope
Super mahina 👍🏼super muza
amazing machine! real fun to use also once you learned how to program
音色サウンドも最高です!
日本のローランドは世界最先端ですね。
That Rave Organ sample is from Modular Expansion - Cubes, although what it's from before that I don't know. czcams.com/video/rL8kh339tNE/video.html
Yup. One of the uncleared samples that got the M-DC1 pulled :-D
Recently dug mine out after.. shit... 25 years? And my tunes were all gone! Let's see if older me can do something decent. Cool demo..
Have a chance to get one of these for under $200, wasnt convinced until i heard the prodigy being covered. Seems like a fun little groovebox to have.
That Sexual Healing is LUSH!!
Well, some of these sounds are really cheesy, but overall it seems incredibel how full this thing sounds. I have a Korg emx and somehow i was never able to get it sound like this regarding anything, drums, synths, fx... and the EMX was much more expensive and still is!
The last one was awesome sweet! Imo it's better and more olskool than the prodigys own material in later years 🙂✌🏻.
Any idea how turn the synth key volume up mate ?
I changed the eternal battery and now the synth is quiet.
Cheers
Nice tunes too by the way ✌️
Would like to hear @ 3:40 recreated on some of that gear I can see in the back. You have some really nice sounds going on here
👍👏🎹
I have one of these and I could never get any kind of resonance out of it which I found disappointing considering the heritage of the name. These tracks sound great!
Yep, I know what you mean :D The resonance on the MC-303's filter is pretty weak. I think Roland could have left the 303 reference from the groove box and just call it a groove box :D
I’m looking for a drum machine either this or the TR8. However I have a 303 by my area going for $150. I have a TB3, KP3 ,CDJ, and mixer. And honestly this doesn’t sound half as bad for the price. Thank you
Did you get one ?
@@infesticon no I ended up getting a MPC 1000. I wouldn’t mind getting one if the price is right though
How are you saving your patterns?
Hi Andrew! I gave up using the MC-303's internal sequencer years ago. I record my patterns part by part from DAW to MC-303. I've noticed that I get the tightest note data when recording 60 BPM. For example if I have a 4 bar long bass line, I set my DAW tempo to 60 BPM, then set the MC-303's internal clock to 60 BPM and arm the real time record. When I hit play on the DAW the MC-303 starts to record live and DAW plays the melodies in.
Where i can get these hot soundfiles?
How ya make custom patterns plz
Hi. Do You think it's possible to make a 30min set with nice ,not rave music just to have good time before real band finishes preparing? I have this one but still fighting with programming patterns. Factory ones are painfull...
Hi there and sorry for the late reply. I'm sure that you can do a 30 min live set with MC-303 alone. I remember back in the 90's when guys did whole gig just with one MC-303 and one keyboard. The MC-303's downside on the live performance is the CPU power. If you have complex and fast 16th note arpeggios running on many channels and comples drum patterns the 303 will slow down.. It doesnät freeze or crash, the tempo stays up but it starts to drop notes and tempo swings a little bit. Then again, I think its charmy and part of the gimmics of the the retro vintage gear :D
@@tiergrinder Thanks! Back to work for me, despite pain in ears after those dull rave patterns...I also have soundcanvas midi module. Will try to sync them. Ultimate goal is to be able to play 40min set on pt1210 replayer for amiga and mc303 and there will be no royalties to pay!. all best
The key is minimalism sothat it does not dump notes....good sturdy tool if you know what your doing
@@tiergrinder but that's what multi track are for lol to save all the work lol I'd love to record a set and only have to press two or three buttons lol and get payed for it lol.
Are you running this to tape? Sounds so warm 😎👌
Hi! No tape here. I recorded the MC-303 straight to the DAW through Tascam US 16x08 sound card 🙂
@@tiergrinder Great programming . I have one but have never fully explored it.
6:00 I remember doing this remix 5 years ago. I love it! soundcloud.com/filiperodrigues/giv-me-luv-filipe-rodrigues
The second track sounds like sexual feeling
does it sounds like this raw or did you 'master' the audio in post? sounds very fat
