Can you imagine, the best voice in the world as backing vocal? I am always amazed that after this song, Marco gracefully takes his position on stage with such a humble and decent posture, Everyone loves Marco. He is amazing. Twas perfect for the band. The new basist is ok, but he will never replace Marco's place in the band. He can play, but will never lift up to Marco.
Hi Nina, I saw a great NW army commenter suggest a little Floor detour (which always leads back to Nightwish, so don't worry..). It's a song called "Shallow". You may have heard of it ;)
Floor put her own spin on it during the legendary 2019 season of the Dutch TV show "Beste Zangers" (best singers, but also 'dear singers'). Her surprising appearance in that show blew everyone away: fellow singers, presenter, tv audience. It basically launched her solo career.
Anyhew, here goes. I'll give you the exact search title, since your channel's filter settings seem to preclude direct links. In case you don't know yet, Marco formed a band called Tarot back in 1982 with his brother. He also released his first solo album "Mustan Sydämen Rovio" , or in english "Pyre Of The Black Heart" last year. Tha album can be found both in Finnish and in English". I recommend the song "The Voice Of My Father".

Nina I love your channel, I don't know if you know that our Floor really needs our prayers, she was diagnosed with breast cancer about 3 weeks ago and was operated on last 10/27/22 but she is fine, but we will send you a lot of positive energy, and that she recover as soon as possible, a kiss from Brazil;
This song gives me actual chills every time. Floor and Marco are easily my favorite vocal duo.

I'm so glad that you Nina notice the interactions (and appreciation) between the band members! (in this case from Floor).
Never tire of seeing reactions to this beautiful song. Marco is the only singer who could possibly have Floor as his backup, they sing so well together. Their smiles at the end say it all, those weasels stick together.
The song is about a lonely lighthouse keeper. Marko's double neck, 'The Beast', is a custom Warwick bass with Framus guitar. (Both brand names are owned by the same company)
'This' is Troy's Irish Low Whistle. The music was brought from Marko's previous band ,Tarot. Tuomas heard him playing it one day, and decided it would make a great song. They finished the music together and Tuomas wrote the lyrics.
The cover/tribute of Pink Floyd's High Hopes will give you more of what Marko can do on lead vocals.

This was the song that brought me to Nightwish and is always a favourite to hear. It was hearing Floor singing with them that brought me back to Nightwish.

The other thing worth noticing is the look of joy and the applause Floor gives Marko when he comes back to the stage, she looks so happy that he is getting all of the attention for a change, and she looks proud too

Hi there, I am new to your channel but really liked the video. I just wanted to share this not well known fact about Marco Hietala, he is actually the grandpa of Finnish metal scene through the band he is the front man of a band called Tarot that was one of the first three metal bands in Finland.
Yay! I was in a Marko mood today. My favorite male vocalist!
Marko is magic. Really miss him in NW.
In case you weren't aware, the low whistle is played by the sixth band member, Troy Donockley, a multi instrumentalist from England. You will find him playing so many different instruments on some of the songs and singing backing vocals. Including whistles, Uilleann pipes, bouzouki, acoustic and electric guitars picked, plucked and using E-bow plus others !!
Marko has the soul of a fireside folk singer. Quite a talented and versatile voice. Such a great duet and he has the best backup vocalist on the planet!
I really like how you pick out parts and play them on the piano, it really adds to the reaction I think. I think there are two Nightwish songs from when Annette Olsen was the singer that you might like. Two totally different songs to each other as well. If you were to react to them I would suggest doing the studio versions as what I've seen of her live wasn't the greatest to be honest. The first is Slow, Love, Slow that always gives me vibes of one of those old Film Noir detective movies when they are in some kind of jazz club. The other is also one I think you'd absolutely love called Scaretale - I've seen it described as Disney meets Metal which isn't a bad description 😄 She gives a great singing performance in it as some kind of mad dark Disney Queen.

To see Marco, I believe at his finest, watch him sing the character of the phantom, with Nightwish’ first singer, Tarja. Phantom of the Opera.. a different era in the bands time, just as wonderful

@@ninaschofield When doing The Greatest Show on Earth, best to use the track from Tampere which has lyrics or it would be easy to not understand what is being sung. Also, when looking at the lyrics beforehand, check a few meanings that you might not be familiar with, like 'The Devonian Sea'. It will enhance the performance for you 🙂
Nina, I just found your reaction channel, and I am happy to see you're doing Nightwish. I believe that anyone blessed with the gift of music---as you are---can truly appreciate the magic these artists create. I know you're in the UK (USA for me), and I suspect you can more likely relate to the fact that only one of the members of Nightwish is a native speaker of English. These are amazingly gifted musicians, and their personal interactions have a way of communicating the music with the visuals they present during live performances. Tuomas Holopainen is nothing short of a musical genius. A modern-day Mozart. Once he joined forces with Floor, the Earth trembled under my feet. Thanks for the video.
I love the song taikatalvi that Marko sings. It's from the movie Imaginaerum. Very underrated in my opinion. You should react to it. One of my favourites as is The Islander here.

I see this video was done about a year ago, I'm a 73-year-old gentleman who is really enjoying Night Wish. I came across a video of the production of The Islander video that Marko and Tuomas wrote it based on Finnish Mythology with a steampunk twist. It reminded me of "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Your analysis is spot on.
Yours is probably the best reaction I've ever seen to this song, and I've seen a lot of them, true surprise throughout.

Lovely reaction and insight as always. I so look forward to your videos because I will be entertained and educated at the same time. I have read that Floor's smile and laughter at the end is because Marko's vocal at the end changed from what they had rehearsed and Floor had to adjust on the fly to match him. My favorite Marko song is While your Lips are Still Red live at Wembley. You get to hear Marko in an vulnerable and emotional place in his vocals and gorgeous harmonies with Floor. The lyrics are a lovely tribute to innocent, young love.

Marko is absolutely amazing... if you havent you should check the cover he/nightwish did of Pink Floyd's HIGH HOPES. his solo stuff and with his own band Tarot or Northern Kings really hope he comes back to music even if its just as a solo artist.

If you like Marco’s voice, you should listen to his solo album, the beautiful song Isäni ääni in Finnish. There is an English version but the Finnish version is just so beautiful.

Floor steps back out of the spotlight during a lot of songs. Guitar solos, Marko singing, Troy playing the pipes, whatever it is, Floor steps back from the mic out of the spotlight, while the others have their moment. Floor is a team player. She has said on multiple occasions that Tuomas makes Nightwish run, not her.

As a Finn I have often thought that the lyrics of song was inspired by our song Vanhojapoikia viiksekkäitä. Similar "old man tired of the world" feeling.
Marko has been rocking since the 80's. One of the first Finnish Metal Rockers.
That's Floor... Whipping up the energy and go full power in the last phrases. And Marco does great along her. Now this song (and When your lips are still red) originally had Marco on lead vocals and Anette on backing. Floor replaced Anette so she took over the backings. But she would never miss the occasion to play around with the vocals and create magic. Marco really was her mate with that.

This was probably just before they played the greatest show on earth, which is also played at dusk in tampere (though the wembley version also fantastic). Its the last of the "big 3" (ghost love score and the poet and the pendulum being the first two).
Nina , the second part of dialogue which is with no subtitles goes like this ... Marko says to the crowd... " If I play the chorus , you will go within, aren't you? Ok... lets play it. "
He speaks in pure Finnish ! The song is a bomb! Originally sang by Annete Olzon. Here Floor gets aside , as a back up singer , the blending of the voices are magical.

Always floored by Floor’s humbleness and how she never Takes Over a performance.
Always playing Her Part and leaving room for the other voices and instruments.
In this, Marlo’s song, she accents it perfectly with her backing vocals.
Look at how she smiles in his direction.
It is clear that she finds great joy in Marlo’s Moment.
Said it before. When Floor backs you up, you don't get a back fill, but a mountain to stand on and project to heaven. Floor is a great singer at pretty much everything , including helping and supporting. Her ego IS the music.
In thus case Marco wrote the music, Tuomas supplied the lyrics.
For the ultimate Marco lead vocals with Nightwish, High Hopes live from Hartwall Arena in 2005.
Also, I don't think I have seen anyone react to Marco singing Taikatalvi (Magic Winter, roughly) - short but wonderful (although in Finnish).
Excellent reaction! I recall the first time I saw this video, full of it's surprises. My thought at the time was: 'Is there anything these people can't do?' Many thanks, Nina! BTW, there's an excellent video of 'Weak Fantasy' at this same show. You'll see Marko in that one using both necks of the double neck bass/guitar he was using on Islander. Weak Fantasy is much more intense and everybody shines, especially Kai on drums.
High hope the Pink Floyd cover Marco shows his power. If you like more folksy sounding raw try these two beauties like How's the hear and Nemo Acoustic versions just Floor and Troy presented by planet rock. Thank you

The Bass player Marko Hietala's original first band was “Tarot” and he is the Lead Singer & Bass player of the band. Marko has all the time been playing with them as a side Project for Nightwish. Great reaction! I'm always here for a return to Nightwish! Might I request/suggest a reaction to LiSA? Any of her performances on First Take would be wonderful, as most of them it is just her and a piano, which would be amazing for you but also wonderful to see. One of the top voices in the world, in my opinion. Hard to pick from between Gurenge, Homura and Unlasting. LiSA's superpower is the intensity and emotion she can carry in her singing, so I lean towards Homura. All are amazing.
