  • This is the NHTSA NCAP side pole crash test for 2018+ Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class (X253/C253) is a compact luxury SUV introduced in 2015 for the 2016 model year that replaces the former Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class. (wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_GLC-Class)
NHTSA New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) Side Pole Impact:
A small-sized adult female crash test dummy is placed in the driver's seat and is secured with a seat belt. The test vehicle, angled at 75 degrees, is then pulled sideways at 20 mph (32km/h) into a 25-cm diameter pole at the driver's seating location. This test mimics a side impact crash involving a narrow, fixed object like a utility pole or tree. 1 star is the lowest rating; 5 stars is the highest. More stars equal safer cars.
    Overall Rating: 5-Star
    Overall Front Star Rating: 5-Star
    Front Driver Side: 5-Star
    Front Passenger Side: 5-Star
    Overall Side Star Rating: 5-Star
    Side Crash Driver Side: 5-Star
    Side Crash Passenger Side: 5-Star
    Front Seat Rating: 5-Star
    Combined Rear Seat Rating: 5-Star
    Side Barrier Rating: 5-Star
Overall Side Pole Star Rating: 5-Star
    Rollover Star Rating: 5-Star
The rollover rating measures the risk of rollover in a single-vehicle, loss-of-control scenario.

Only 20mph and it flexed that much? Up the speeds people! Stop worrying about headlight brightness tests and perform realistic crash tests!

blabla62871, what are you talking about? The speed limit in my neighborhood is higher than this crash test speed. The point is to test vehicles under realistic conditions. I’m not sure how you could even slide into a pole at 20 mph honestly. They finally bumped the frontal crash test speed up to 48mph because that’s a realistic speed. This car should’ve been tested at a minimum of 30 if not 35. They can design a car to withstand those speeds so don’t tell me “it’s pointless” because it isn’t. They think adding tech to prevent crashes means that vehicles don’t need as much rigorous testing, when the testing needs to actually be double downed on.

I don't think you've ever worked on a car, much less know the ins and outs of its SRS system. A car doesn't need as much of a crumple zone to absorb a side impact. Thicker higher grade materials would minimize roof folding and allow for a safe car at reasonable speeds. The Tesla Model X didn't have any roof flex and handled this test extremely well. The Tesla Model X just proves that you can make side impacts with a pole more survivable at higher speeds. Here's the '2017 Tesla Model X Pole Crash Test' : czcams.com/video/SjapNSJJT0I/video.html

I seen an accident happen just 10 mins ago and made me want to look for the crash tests... this is not representative of how well they keep the passengers intact. Trust me, I am buying Mercedes from here on out!

Look at the way the dummy neck and head barely moved, a lot of other cars the dummy is thrown way to the side risking injury to the neck. This mercedes absorbed most of the force.
