Yes most of these nanny-state restrictions need to go. It's like living in East Berlin on times. I always go back to this: If the state doesn't deem a person suitable to have an SGC (e.g 2+1 pump or semi), then neither should they hold a driving licence. Think about it. Most historic medical or criminal incidents that preclude a person from holding an SGC, should logically also stop them having a driving licence. And conversely, if they get a driving licence with that medical & criminal history, then they should also be able to get an SGC.
e.g. They have previously been suicidal so cannot get an SGC. Oh so they are still safe enough to drive a 7.5 tonne lorry down the M4 🙃
They have previously been an armed bank robber so cannot get an SGC. Oh so they are still safe enough to drive a 7.5 tonne lorry past a Barclays Bank without being a getaway driver 🙃

I find it weird how the government can deem you suitable to own some kind of firearms but not others. If you a deemed suitable to own one action type then you should be allowed to own all action types.

I think it's because they want good reason to ensure people aren't just accumulating an armoury. After all, 25 yard target shooting is no good reason to own a .308. Shotguns are different because a shotgun is just a shotgun.

And for a sport, I just couldn't put in that much time (the nearest range to me that I know of is an hour away). I'd be happy just to become a member of a club (if one was nearer) and if I could just shoot there without going through the hoops of FAC etc. Something for retirement now, I suppose. I had my shot gun certificate revoked back in 2021 after I refused to surrender it voluntarily in response to a false allegation of common assault that was made against me. The firearms licencing department stated that they had sent me a recorded delivery letter informing me of my right to appeal but I never received it and they refused to investigate why the Post Office had said it had been delivered.
With the revocation on my record do you think I would stand a chance of being granted a new shot gun certificate? Since the revocation I have been sworn in as a Justice of the Peace. Would this make any difference?

You will have an uphill struggle convincing a court that you weren't served those appeal documents if Royal Mail's system shows they were delivered, and it's not the police's job to investigate, unfortunately.

Depression etc. that was triggered by an event such as a bereavement is treated differently to lifelong depression or bipolar.
I suffered depression following a trajic incident involving my brother... but that sort of depression is entirely expected and is not a bar to a licence. Likewise a licenced friend of mine lost his mum and suffered depression and had his licence pulled but it was returned in full upon reapplication within 12 months.
It's all case by case, so don't let a historic bout of depression stop you from applying. 👍

Glad I knew nothing of the depth of checks they made, even though none of the above relates to me, I'd have had some sleepless nights waiting for my ticket. Just goes to show how much of a privilege owning firearms is. And how relatively safe our gun control laws are here in the UK.

Our strict gun control/civilian disarmament laws means that criminals are safer from the law-abiding, than vice versa.

Any one who has previous, really should not be allowed to handle any kind of firearm. Squeaky clean is the only way today.

It takes a certain type of man to request permission to own a gun, having just left the Army after 11 years and having shot for years before joining I will not be subjecting myself to judgement by the current podophile protection service dealing with FAC. Being an ex Soldier is seen as "potential" it does not rule you out but it is a big fuck you very much for your service pleb.

@tacfoley I don't think the Romans had the issue either. The guys leaving as I joined had far less of it than those leaving after me too. 67... Notice I said current.

@tacfoley 33 Years and you still think your Army career was the same as mine? To put this any simpler I would risk my CZcams account but it is common sense to expect issues when people return to see the same people they just left in Afghanistan claiming benefits here... Now depending what they did and how that went is how they might react... You are flogging a dead horse matey this is CZcams...
