A BIG BLACK EYE FOR HARBOR FREIGHT
I have a Harbor freight TITANIUM FLUX 125 WELDER purchased from Harbor Freight a couple years ago. I am a retired plumbing contractor and backyard hobbyist. I love to build things in my spare time and help friends and neighbors that need something repaired. When I retired and closed my business, I had a stick welding machine but had no convenient place to connect it at my home! It would require an upgrade to my electrical service not worth the trouble and expense! When I saw a couple reviews on CZcams for this Titanium 125 welder, I thought that would be the way to go. I already had a 110 Volt 30 Amp circuit to my workshop!
It took me a while to get adjusted to the flux wire welding. I built a minibike from scrap pipe I had left over from the plumbing shop. The welder allowed me to make other things and make repairs for others I wouldn’t be able to do without it.
In the middle of my last project, I cut a couple pieces of metal and got ready to weld them and when I pushed the button on the welder, nothing happened! It was dead! The fan did not come on but the light on the ON/OFF indicated there was power to the welder. I checked the manual for a reset button or a fuse and found no mention of either.
So, I called the Harbor Freight 800 number and was told there was no repair for this welder. Harbor Freight has no repair facility, and no support is available. I was told by two different tech reps there is no schematics or parts list available from the factory where this is manufactured. “It is not worth getting it repaired and cheaper to go purchase a new one!” If you purchase this welder or many other things from Harbor Freight You only have 3 Months Warranty. It is considered disposable after that!
All the reviews and discussion I have read about HARBOR FREIGHT I have never seen anything about their total lack of support for their products! I didn’t even get an “I’m sorry” or any offer for a discount on a new welding machine!
I am retired, was an electronics technician in the Navy, active Ham Radio operator and electronics hobbyist. I feel like the electronics in this welding machine is straight forward non computer controlled and any decent electronics tech should be able to repair this given reasonable support. I removed the circuit board from the welder and found where a small component burned of course not knowing the component value or purpose will make it difficult to replace. Providing a schematic and parts list is a very inexpensive form of support that should be a minimum requirement. Their claim to revenue of 7 Billion Dollars tells me they could afford it!

Don’t understand how you can’t like stick welding. I love it. It’s not sensitive to wind, it can reach in tight spots, and you can easily change consumables for different metals.

I know it has its advantages and has its place. And I tell the kiddies that stick can do things that other types of welding can't, and that in heavy industry and outdoors it's pretty much all stick. I just don't enjoy it.

I have a VEVOR fluidized hopper, powder coating setup that I have yet to use due to having my left shoulder joint replaced recently. The price was about 10%-20% of a GEMA and only twice that of Eastwood. This welder seems quite capable for what it is. I'm actually impressed with VEVOR so far. BTW, I'm a retired Industrial Design Engineer and currently a fabricator/painter/powder coater. New shop and equipment about 80% complete when shoulder gave out. 6-9 months of recovery to go!👍

For lift tig when you are gonna stop snap out fast but keep your torch close for post flow. No reason to run away. Hard on the tungsten pulling away that hard to even with the gas on because it allows oxygen in. Looks good just don’t overthink it. I have ran quite a few hours lift arc but mostly foot pedal control. Can’t beat high frequency start !

my smaller welder from harbor freight wont even weld 1/8 very well with .o25 weld wire. I have that one too it welds better with .023 than my harbor freight titanium. I hate switching wire and mostly do sheet metal. I have this welder too and it welds much better than the HF titanium especially on thick 1/4 metal.

(Vevor MIG-270, 3 in 1). I purchased this a little over a year ago. I have used it maybe 5 to 6 times. I have never done anything more than mig welding, and have truly never put it through the paces. Actually nothing more than ga. sheet metal. After about 5 to 6 uses, and just tacking my floor pan into my classic car, (20 ga.) it just shut off. Of course I checked the breaker, the fuse...etc. I went over and turned the switch off. Let it sit for about 5 minutes. Turned it back on, it turned on, up until I struck an arc. Shut off again, and now will not turn on at all. Trying to find a possible new power supply, but to no avail I'm not finding it. Fairly disappointed in the longevity of this welder. Of course it's passed warranty, so I'm pretty screwed, and out $279

If you're willing to open it up, check the connections of the power cord into the machine, the continuity of the power cord to the plug, and the continuity of the switch itself. If there's an easy fix, that will be it. Beyond that, I don't know. Don't touch the capacitors. Best of luck.

You are likely getting half the indicated power on 110 as opposed to 220. This would explain the stick issue and probably should be in the manual but manuals are VEVOR's biggest drawback from what I've seen.

This is why target stores failed. they didnt know how to play the game. Walmart did and they just said....No we wont carry your product unless you give it to us for xxx price and held their guns. I would urge anyone contemplating buying anything from this company to just do a search on the reviews, wish I did. I bought this welder and it's not about the product it's about the customer support should you need it (and buying cheaper products there is always a chance you'll need it). Read the reviews and you will see what I mean. It was without doubt the worst customer experience in my entire life. They may have refund and warranty policies listed on their web site but they certainly don't honour any of them. Don't make the same mistake I and many other people made.

    • @GregWellwood
      @GregWellwood  Před 10 měsíci +2

Certainly something to be aware of. I always recommend researching a company's reviews to help inform your decision. Often, with things really cheap, there is a risk with "when things go wrong" that you may not be able to find recourse. If I'm spending a LOT of money, I buy from reputable companies with a proven track record. If it's really cheap, I accept a certain amount of risk. But yeah, good points!

I'm wondering how well these Vevor 270's are holding up? Has anyone out there have longer term experience? Any warranty claims?

I've had the 250 version for two years. I've burned about 20 lbs of wire with no issues.

I've had my vevor mig 270 less than a year and burned less than a roll of wire in it and already had issues with the welder. I noticed one day the control panel screens flashing off and on while trying to weld and the arc was going out, turned out to be break in the power plug somewhere with no visible issues (found no continuity with my multimeter on one wire).
Next issue was I didn't use the tig welder for about 2 months while buying a gas bottle, when I finally got my bottle I instantly found a gas leak inside the tig torch and the hose kept popping off the hose barb so I had to wire tie it on which there is barely room to do. I contacted vevor and their solution was I purchase a new tig torch and they will discount me 25%, I complained and they said best they can do is 60%, I shouldnt have to buy new parts because their crap is faulty.
