For anyone wondering why there are so many “Burger“ towns in Germany. Burg is the German word for castle.
Hamcastle😂😂😂😂
Yes and ham is short version of the oldsaxon word hamme witch mene as mutch as curved is use caus of the curved river next to it
@@alexandraosullivan1766 not like English do it much better. looking at you Crackpot, Brown Willy, Bitchfield, Shitterton and Penistone.
just to name a few
i mean who in the world would call there town Shitterton? in there own language
I didn't know that, the more you know
Interesting
4:02 the reason it looks like boots is because the name chodové or chods mean walkers.
And they were basically rangers.
Swedish speaking Finns are a minority group in Finland often referred to as “Finlandssvenskar”. They speak Swedish with a Finnish dialect and are a remnant of the Swedish empire. Swedish is their native language. They make up around 5% of the Finnish population and live mostly around the Vasa region in Finland.
Alto i think that the flag is wrong... I mean i think that the flag shown is the "skånska flaggan" ( name in Swedish) and that the actual flag is a fusion of the Finnish and Swedish flag.
@@albinbohlin6007no it's the right one. The flag of Scania have a thinner cross and different proportions.
They are very similar though, and easy to mistake for each other.
The "I learned a lot today." is honestly one of my favourite bits. Satisfaction at a job well done.
I think it's pretty neat with how some of them have medieval/historical references to their past.
3:50 what is even funnier is that Americans from USA though it's ham-burger and they now creating things like cheese-burger - sandwich from Very famous Cheeseburg, Fish-burger - from Fishburg and Veggie burger from Vegestan capital Veggieburg
4:28 FINALLY WE GOT MENTIONED RAHHHHHH🦅🦅🇫🇮🇫🇮🇦🇽
Hej vart i Finland bor du. Jag är från Östra Nyland🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮
Yesss!
I was so excited to see it mentioned :D
Ja ji från Österbotten
ALSO US TEXANS GOT A CAMEO!
hyva suomi!
3:10 speaking from personal experience, the Kurds would absolutely use that flag if the sovereign state derived from Iraqi Kurdistan, which uses that particular flag. They are quite fond of it.
As a Hungarian I see this as a win.
for lingistique flags Canada has a lot of cool ones for french speakers in different provinces
I very much enjoyed watching you look at flags, you should totally do more of these!
Also if one specific subset of flags isn’t enough for an individual video, perhaps you could do a couple different interesting flag types together as one video?
this was a really cool video idea had no idea these types of flags existed but I'm glad to have learned something new and really interesting!
1:30 that looks familiar
I saw the flag of my people, the Métis, in the thumbnail, but it didn’t get mentioned in the video.
For the record, the flag in question is the blue one with the infinity symbol.
Oh cool I can't say anything about my flag because I'm a southern American and you know why
@@jimmanganelli1220 Yeeeeeaaaaahhhhh… let’s not talk about that one…
Hey, that's a really cool flag
@@PrincessAcornHair It sure is. There’s also a red version for the Métis that speak English as their primary language, such as I.
@@JaredtheRabbit That's so cool
7:46 What the I never seen a flag with pink before!
Where I live apple blossom flags are quite common so it ain't to much of a shock personally.
@@Stars.-Bars.-n-Cheese im kinda worried if the place you live at has the flags on your pfp too
@@staymad8302 Yes, þere are many CSA battle flag where I live.

I am a Bosnian Croat and i see that flag everywhere in my town but i always thought that it was a simplified version of the normal flag but now i know it isn't. thanks Drew!
3:54 I like how there is a White Castle on the Hamburgers flag...🍔👍
Lol
2:38 Yay, Berber finally mentioned!
4:45 history with Hilbert uploaded a video about linguistic flags, one hour after this video was uploaded. Coincidence? I don't think so.
Something interesting about culture flags is the Catalan world, most Catalan regions apart from catluña itself don’t use the actual Catalan flag (like the Catalan parts in Italy , just a island and the French parts)
Occitan mentioned (on a photo!!!)!!
I’m surprised the Acadian flag didn’t pop up. It’s a very French looking flag that represents the Cajuns that span from eastern Texas to Florida’s pan handle.
6:31 i like how drew says 'vexology' instead of 'vexillology'.
You should do more city and subdivision flags
Petition for Drew to make a Finland ball plush and Iceland to have all Nordics.
There's so much knowledge, that i didn't know about, until now
Iberian cultural flags can be also a list on its own, sometimes are like the ones on the autonomous community, but sometimes have lots of variants
6:05
The Mongolian Empire did not have a flag.
dude i haven't watched you in so long
Flags are back lets go
I’ve been a fan since he mainly stopped playing games and I’ve always been waiting to mention the Métis (it’s the infinite flag with blue background) and he didn’t lol
Cool and fun video!
Going down the rabbithole of Wikipedia commons for cultural flags made me make the entire Worldmap with all these flags and even more.
How do I send it to Drew?
Video idea: real life countries featured in Sonic Unleashed
Petition for a Prussia and and now also Venice countryball plush day 3.
Day 4 of asking for a Caribbean countryball videos (mainly the *un*popular ones pls.)
Hey drew durnil when you make the panama ball plush can you cut them in half with a magnet so ypu can attach it and deattatch it
You forgot about ethnical flag of Germans, that leave in Argentina. It has a cool slavic symbol in the middle
3:35 That "mixup" happened because a lot of Ethnic Macedonians were influenced to boycott the census by the coutries parties, which resulted in those results.
Also mostly the old "Vergina/Kutlesh star" flag is used as an ethnic flag.
Petition for @Drew Durnil to either make a country ball plushy of Prussia, Bavaria, and the Austrian Empire, or make a state ball collection with Illinois or Alabama, California and Texas day 1
I wonder why the Castilians are using the Castile flag instead of the flag for the catalonians
3:54 ... this is not a culture flag. It's the flag for the federal state of Hamburg.
I have never seen the “English Australian” flag before. Seems a bit redundant considering what the national flag is anyway.
3:40 - Hamburger flag with a White Castle 😅
Clicked on the video after seeing my own culture represented in the thumbnail (Breton), only to find an 8 minute video that doesn't even mention us.
Make a Venice Countryball
In Mexico, there are many proposals for ethnic flags with a varying degree of acceptance within each culture, but I think the more accepted ones are the Mixe, Purepecha, Seri and Yaqui flags.
An interesting flag is the volgagerman flag which is the flag of a group of people from germanic descent that lived/live along the Volga river in Russia
bro baited me with the sami flag in the thumbnail
5:35 Just don't combine the flags of the Jains people and the Sindies.
You should do Conlang flags, that is, flags for constructed languages. The "old school" constructed languages, like Volapük, Esperanto, Ido and Occidental, all have had flags from the very beginning as a part of their visual identity, a trend which has continued for modern conlangs (like Novial, Interlingua, LFN, Folkspraak etc.)
I doubt a lot of his viewers would be interested in that.
1:48 Actually, Croats have been inhabiting the Herzegovina region in Bosnia and Herzegovina for a long time, even before Yugoslavia.
Interestingly swastika in some form pops up in ancient cultures all over the world. There is one interesting theory saying that comet Encke was positioned "head on" towards Earth several thousand years ago, and since it was spinning, the jets from the tail created swastika-like shape in the night sky. The ancient chinese Han Dynasty silk comet atlas depicts one appearance of this comet as a perfect swastika.
5:40 the britist weren't the ones who United south asia, they actually devided them more. It was Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel who united most of south asia and formed the republic of India as we know it today
Never fails to entertain us
Hamburg mentioned 🔥🔥🗣️🗣️🗣️💯💯💯
The berebers on the top left is actually called the kabil flag and represents the people of the kabili region in algeria

1:11 thats just Northern Epiros (Southern Albania), not a greek-albanian culture flag

it is for the Greeks living at Northen Epirus (south Albania)
at 7:24 thoose are actually a Canadian indengenios group called "Inuit" (Don't like being called Canadians) and in the province called "Nunavut" (Basicly the extreme north)
Aren't these are the same in Greenland?
One of my favourite things in this vague category but not a flag is the Singh / Sikh tartan. At some point in history some Scottish Sikh men wanted to partake in the culture of tartans and kilts but weren’t sure if they could wear certain tartans, so they designed their own. It’s widely recognised now. Anyone can register a new tartan but very few gain such widespread recognition. My friend created one for his wedding and there’s one for the Glasgow World Science Fiction Convention in Glasgow this summer.
as a turk i support our kurdish brothers when it comes to getting there cultural heritage rights and language rights and there local autonomy .
this is not a joke .
There's like half a million swedish-speaking Finns in Finland, so not weird at all that they have a flag
Can you react PWA Usa knows flags?
Biafra in logo W
Many Chinese ethnic groups got their own unofficial flags too, for example the Zhuang people from my region of Guangxi has the Zhuang flag, althrough not official, green with a two yellow circles inside it.
Thanks for mentioning Iraqi Turkmen 🇹🇷🇮🇶
i SAW SAMI FLAG!!! I CLICK!!! :D

This is my favourite part 💀 3:38
When did the maldives was on the list
Btw. Oldenburg isn't just a region, but also the name of several cities, towns, villages across the globe, even in the US and also a typical surname here in Germany. For example my surname is Oldenburg, even though I wasn't in any of those Oldenburg places.. I get the question alot, since I moved to Hannover, if I'm also from Oldenburg, because it's close by Hannover. But my grandparents were from Prussia and I was born in the german part of Pomerania, which also has a village called Oldenburg, which I've never been to. xD
I want a Burg to be in new england
7:31 The symbol is associated with Hindu but it's kinda 70% similar to the real symbol(swastika) but not the same.
What's the real symbol?
it looks like nazi
@@Rising___Star Bro, How can I explain a symbol? Just google it, that's why I mentioned the name.
I honestly thought he would bring up the samé cause they had an interesting history and current situation and on top of that they also now have had a film about them released and I think that it is atleast available in england

Castilians are not the same people as Catalonians. For comparison, and, not to throw hate, that'd be like saying Texans are the same people as Californians or New Yorkers
Aren't texans ,Californians and New Yorkers all European settlers so they're the same ?
Did you make Pakistan countryball plushie
