- Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo sat down with CNBC's Morgan Brennan over the weekend to discuss semiconductor trade with China and how U.S. policy is impacting chip makers.

👏👏👏🇧🇷🇷🇺🇮🇳🇨🇳🇿🇦➕️👍👍👍
The biggest problem with US leaders is that they continually assume that China is just going to sit idly by and not try to figure out how to develop their own tech if they get excluded. The US was very much against China developing nuclear weapons and access to space. How did that work out?
I believe that between them , US must be having their own tactics and strategies while analyzing China's development. I don't think they are blunt enough as in ur comment. There're always the game theory applied behind their true moves.
😯 🇺🇲 is all about short term profit.
It worked badly because we have idiots in our country who put personal wealth over what is good for the nation. Buying into Chinese money. That said China's economy is crashing and burning before their eyes.
Yeah seems like whatever game theory they are using it's not working. China is getting better and better @@heratan2151

*China builds their own*
China doesn’t invent anything, they only make cheap and low quality replicas 😂
US denied China access to the International Space Station. How did that work out for you?
"International" Space Station should be renamed to "US+US vassal states" Space Station.
Now they are asking moon samples from China 🇨🇳😅😂.
the sample that china got is said to be young rocks that shows its arrived around 0.7billion years, at which point moon is already solidified,

Totally! I am surprised that an US government will say something like this. Is it still a democratic country?
"US Democracy" is pretty hypocritical. Very typical double standard thinking, nothing new.

I don't know if the US' moral standard has fallen or it's like that from the begining, the war from middle east happened recently makes me realize america was never a role model and the image of WWII hero crafted by america is gradually crumbling, america is really in no place to be the world leader anymore. On the global trading matters, when you are dominating you say free market and globalization, when you're not you start sanctions and local protectionism, sometimes it just feels america never graduate from its high school glory days, let's see if the bully always gets its way.
I agree 1000%
She is prepared to be the spoke person of more Chinese products in the future, such as, advanced DRAM, NAND, 7nm, 5nm fabrication, AI training and inferencing chips, DUV and EUV machines. Don't worry Sec. you already passed the interview to be the spoken person, you are the most qualified person!
Stupid, I mean if you spoke for China. Escalating to personal attack only makes it worse for China.
This woman thinks Taiwanese & S. Korean semiconductor industries are American.
Thanks to the United States, Mencius said that if a country does not suffer from internal and external worries, the country will always perish. It is born from worries and dies in peace and happiness.
China will eventually develop the technology.
Yes, when it is obsolete in the US
True but the one thing that the Chinese don’t have is maturity and ethics something that the west has from years of democracy, you can’t get that from communism those essential principles are thrown out turning people unethical and having no integrity

Blocking competition is a threat to us innovation, and eventually a threat to us national security
It also limits revenue opportunities for US companies since they will be shut out of China permanently , and also have to compete globally with Chinese chip companies once they catch up with the US, which will probably be in the next 5-10 years.
You need to run faster yourself, not to stop others from running. Shame on your mindset
America can do both. Chew gum and walk and the same time

China doesn’t run, they steal and then cry.
Thats how US will keep themselves in top, not by advancing themselves but by putting others down.
It is fair enough.
China should keep its top stuff from the USA and vice versa.
China would be forced to innovate.
Before long, they would have gotten the tech.
China is a big country.
正如林毅夫所說, 美國政府對中國晶片的制裁, “就是政府請客, 私人企業埋單.”
As a Chinese international student with master's and PhD degrees from US universities, I want to share a horrible fact. I know a lot of Chinese researchers, scientists and engineers, including myself, are forced to leave the US due to visa issues. The US is sending these masters and PhDs who received US education back to China and that's how they contain China.😥
How is sending all these highly educated, very intelligent people back to China going to "contain China" - surely China having access to their knowledge and abilities will only help accelerate China's rise?

If our country catch up with Nvidia, we have midjourney right
lol 😂 nope
Don't you think it's funny that you draw a performance line and companies make products skirting the line, but still get called out by you. Why bother then? Just say 'no expert whatsoever' then.
AI accelerators have already made the idea of blocking china's growth in AI impossible.
Currently people are using GPUs for AI which is like using a Bugatti to plow a field. AI accelerators are purpose built chips using mature nodes that beat the pants off even the best GPUs in performing AI specific tasks.
Ms. Raimondo spares no effort in promoting Huawei Mate 60pro.
Chinese kids are very smart. Maybe 5 yrs at most.

We are glad to have a highly competent and patriotic person like Sec. Gina Raimondo protecting us. China wants to take a shortcut without investing in R&D.
Blocking technology export to China will only force them to develop the subject area and the associated supply chains on their own. Pretty soon they’d overtake US as the leader in that specific field.
The problem with US is that for the past 30-40 years, the brightest people have rushed to MBA/Financing (i.e. playing with others’ money) while China stayed focused on manufacturing (i.e. making things to make money).
It’s depressing to see the level of incompetence and ignorance in the Biden administration.
Chinese produce the stuff that the market needs,
You need to learn more about China. Go to China for a month, travel around. China is 50 years ahead. China has a vehicle on Mars ten times the size of our Rover, and a helicopter to take pics. They have two on the moon and a space station ten times the size of the ISS that Russia built. They have hyper sonic missiles and hypersonic anti missile systems fully deployed. We do not. Reason our computers are too slow.

Gina is living on an other planet......Maybe China will find a way to produce by their own chips that they need......
What is the threat, Ms. Raimondo? All I hear is fluff. Tell us, what is the specific threat to American citizens?
I agree.
So shameful during her visit to China, she saw the Huawei ad, she was afraid to complain in front of Chinese officials and be detained.
When back home, she started complaining. Is this the American way of conducting diplomacy?
She would never be detained, what are you talking about?

This chip war is so idiotic.
reason 1 its it gedding harder and harder to get to next node even china is 20 years behind its inevitable they will catchup
Reson 2 GPUs are extremely inefficient to train LLMs, industry is trying out new tech wich are better at AI workloads even in 14nm its 10x efficient. By pressurering a nation of billion people to abandon GPUs they will try these new technologys and find solutions quickly. Even before us.
Reson 3 companies will get desperate to get hold on the largest chip market in the wold they will abandon us main land an move to more relatable countries.some times it will create a powerful black market even us government cant control.
I don't see how they can prevent a black market in Nvidia chips so, as you say, the whole thing is idiotic.
If the US really wants to stop China from making chips, it should make the price of chips low enough. Raimundo's approach will only make the Chinese angry and redouble their efforts to break the blockade.
their is no point it manufacturing semiconductor can't sell
I think Raimondo talked too much and delivered little. With her performance, she would have lost her job if she worked in the private sector.

The best thing US could do to China is to ban the AI chips 😆
They cant do that as China is the biggest importer of microchip
