    The biggest problem with US leaders is that they continually assume that China is just going to sit idly by and not try to figure out how to develop their own tech if they get excluded. The US was very much against China developing nuclear weapons and access to space. How did that work out?

    I don't know if the US' moral standard has fallen or it's like that from the begining, the war from middle east happened recently makes me realize america was never a role model and the image of WWII hero crafted by america is gradually crumbling, america is really in no place to be the world leader anymore. On the global trading matters, when you are dominating you say free market and globalization, when you're not you start sanctions and local protectionism, sometimes it just feels america never graduate from its high school glory days, let's see if the bully always gets its way.

      It also limits revenue opportunities for US companies since they will be shut out of China permanently , and also have to compete globally with Chinese chip companies once they catch up with the US, which will probably be in the next 5-10 years.

    As a Chinese international student with master's and PhD degrees from US universities, I want to share a horrible fact. I know a lot of Chinese researchers, scientists and engineers, including myself, are forced to leave the US due to visa issues. The US is sending these masters and PhDs who received US education back to China and that's how they contain China.😥

    AI accelerators have already made the idea of blocking china's growth in AI impossible.
    Currently people are using GPUs for AI which is like using a Bugatti to plow a field. AI accelerators are purpose built chips using mature nodes that beat the pants off even the best GPUs in performing AI specific tasks.

      Blocking technology export to China will only force them to develop the subject area and the associated supply chains on their own. Pretty soon they’d overtake US as the leader in that specific field.
      The problem with US is that for the past 30-40 years, the brightest people have rushed to MBA/Financing (i.e. playing with others’ money) while China stayed focused on manufacturing (i.e. making things to make money).
      It’s depressing to see the level of incompetence and ignorance in the Biden administration.

      You need to learn more about China. Go to China for a month, travel around. China is 50 years ahead. China has a vehicle on Mars ten times the size of our Rover, and a helicopter to take pics. They have two on the moon and a space station ten times the size of the ISS that Russia built. They have hyper sonic missiles and hypersonic anti missile systems fully deployed. We do not. Reason our computers are too slow.

    reason 1 its it gedding harder and harder to get to next node even china is 20 years behind its inevitable they will catchup
    Reson 2 GPUs are extremely inefficient to train LLMs, industry is trying out new tech wich are better at AI workloads even in 14nm its 10x efficient. By pressurering a nation of billion people to abandon GPUs they will try these new technologys and find solutions quickly. Even before us.
    Reson 3 companies will get desperate to get hold on the largest chip market in the wold they will abandon us main land an move to more relatable countries.some times it will create a powerful black market even us government cant control.
