The missteps have put Google back on the defensive in the AI race. But the bigger question around Gemini's roll out is whether it underscores a painful but new corporate reality for Alphabet and CEO Sundar Pichai. Is Google's culture sabotaging its AI efforts? Google has become an advertising company over a tech company, with marketing execs taking over group leadership. As a result even Google search is frustratingly bad - it's all advertising. Unless Google can replace group leadership with a team grounded in technology, pragmatic value creation, and ethics, Google will suffer a slow death

During an audience Q&A a while back Sundar was asked 'if he could phone someone and change the google-doodle'. He said no - explaining the culture, the vetting/thought process behind the doodles, etc. would prevent that from happening. Maybe it's time for someone that could change a frigging google-doodle AND the company's path of now leading from behind.
in a large company, where you have many processes that have been developed over the years and often with good reason, no one single person should be able to simply overwrite such a process. They can start change to the process whereby all stakeholders have something to say, and maybe even influence who the stakeholders should be, but never simply overrule the process.
Sundar is the problem at google.
He could certainly add a doodle. It his point was that there are planning and vetting processes. In this case that was what was missing. Established Google products have well developed rating and quality assurance teams. The AI fleet of products don’t have that quite yet but they need to fix that problem quickly. And testing every scenario you can think of and the ones you can’t is no simple task.
Google seems paralyzed by political correctness, they overcompensate for AI biases by making American and general historical figures images shaded black, and had to apologize as vociferously as they would have had to had they made popular or future heroes in white.
Respectfully, My opinion, which you may disagree with, is google should have included a disclaimer about the experimental nature of AI and that if issues come up they will address them .
Now Pichai may get kicked out.
The stock will be languishing until then.

In future, ai would be able to tell this to investors. Not that you need ai to tell in such basic cases, but still it would.
Ps : Ai might even have to be banned from stock market, coz with ai stock market is literally dead. But what about people who would independently use their ai then to invest money by asking ai to do research and including public sentiment analysis (like idk seeing twitter and internet or something) and tell in which companies to invest and all.

Google definitely has a serious problem to solve. But this whole story is so blown out of proportion (great for investors who've been waiting to buy Google at a great price). Yes, it's unacceptable that they rolled out products without basic testing. But this story, c'mon - Pichai oversaw so many products that were smashing success - Gmail, Android, Chrome, Drive, Maps, Pixel...the list goes on. And of course, we are all here on CZcams, talking about Google's downfall. Look at YT earnings!!

Alphabet has a management problem. Once they fix it, the wealth of franchises they have from CZcams to Waymo (with licenses to operate expanding) will flourish. Search will be cannibalized! But, they’ll figure out how to fix and monetize AI. At 20x forward, I’m buying the weakness!

It’s striking that more than a year after his “make Google dance” comments Alphabet is still stepping all over its feet. Mr. Pichai has yet to to mobilize Alphabet resources adequately.

Gemini is like that Huawei phone that changed into a preprogrammed image when you zoomed on the moon.
I love the new gemini assistant on my phone. Its fantastic. Can submit images ask questions its really good already. I am excited to see it get better.
Copilot app is way better, scrapes online datasheets & provides details that would take me an hour to find manually. I haven't tried generating images though

Gemini is great at coding. It actually remembers my previous questions & adjust its generated python code accordingly. Google should have kept Gemini more focused on productivity.
I blame ai safety. You align a system a certain way and than model your business in a differently (like if the ai responds to developer questions following ethics and best practice then layer updates that obfuscate these principles) and it probably confuses the thing when comparing best practices for similar values even if the scopes changed.
Pichai needs a year of efficiency!

AI should have been released with a disclaimer that it is a best effort at PC and that it will take time or never happen for pure PC.

They say it was 'unacceptable' because the people have spoken against their ideologies. If it didn't receive so much backlash then they probably would have kept going business as usual... AI is a great tool, but not currently for searching information. I often attenåring to use it e.g to pull up stock info and it often straight up lies or contrasicts itself. Eventually it might get good but currently it’s not there.
Small issue is blowing out too much, tech should not be drive by stock prices.

But at the end a "diversity" tool, which has been assigned the highest possible software authority, impose the "diversity" which can't be balanced by the inbuilt creative contrast, which outputs the result that surprised everyone...

What happened with Google 🥺, miss the times when the founders (Larry Page and Sergei Brin) was leading the company and taking the decisions (bought Android, Maps, Motorola, Earth, CZcams, Docs, Deepmind, etc.), after they leave the leading roll, the company went 'woke mentality' and also mostly focus in increase the profits instead on invest and development of future technologies. I liken Generative AI and Google to EVs and legacy automakers. The better they get at it, the more it destroys their business model. Every single thing Google does is predicated on the billions of dollars they make from search. Technology does not care about your human sensitivities and should not be judged as a human! The question is whether it can do something useful for us (which is still to be proven); not whether it will offend any hypersensitive humans. I'm not sure these "AI problems" are unique to Google. Generative AI is generally problematic and flawed. Hallucinations are only one variety of the issues with Gen AI. The problem is not Google leadership as much as it is Gen AI hype and unreasonable expectations of a technology that is not reliable or good.

Everyone should relax lol. AI is not finalized in 2024. No one can describe how efficient all AI will be in 10 to 30 years. Use this as an entry point for the stock and think long term. Don't let the emotions control you.
