- This IITian is taking on Google, with his AI startup Perplexity.
Aravind Srinivas studied engineering at IIT Madras before getting a PhD in computer science from the University of Berkley.
And before starting Perplexity, Arvind worked at Google’s Deepmind and OpenAI, which is where his love for ‘search’ started.
Arvind was convinced that the future of search would be to give the users answers to their questions, not a bunch of links.
To make it happen, he started Perplexity.
He got together a great team that wanted to work on the future of search and cold-emailed two potential investors, who invested 3.1 Million dollars just on the idea.
Since its launch, Perplexity has taken off and is today being used by over 10 Million monthly users.
The company is backed by investors like Jeff Bezos and Nvidia, who have put in over 100 Million dollars, valuing the company at 520 Million dollars.
Finally a guy with real tech knowledge.

I can't say about replacing Google, but it is definitely a better tool when looking for answers.
If it grows big enough google will just buy it. That's what they(big cos) have done alot of times and it works.

nope it isn't google's gemini does what perplexity does also it uses the help of copilot which uses bing for search (wrong infos) plus how can an ai model can certainly replace a tech giant like google like if you use apple you still have to use some google products

I use perplexity for research. It also attaches the sources from which the result has been drawn.

At a time, yahoo was also irreplaceable but got replaced by Chrome. Everything is temporary

I tested chat gpt, perplexity, Gemini ai with same prompts.
And I can say for a fact perplexity is just so so overhyped. It's just a chatbot which can answer question like a robot. Whereas gemini gives real human like answers and was really helpful
True chatgpt gives best answers but for current infos Gemini's answer is better also perplexity uses copilot whose ai model is gpt😂😂

he is a content creator, he gets more views if he mentions IIT, he wont make more money if he starts being considerate of other people's feelings. Besides if someone really was going to do something big, they would 100% not be demotivated by watching something done by an IITian. Web is free to access for all, even if Google completely shuts down, you will still have alternatives like duck duck go, bing search etc.
It is possible for them to build a better search engine than Google, as explained in the short perplexity's goal is to create a different kind of search than traditional search that provides links to websites
It is basically asking AI to generate search answers for you, since it's relatively new there's a chance they overtake Google here, still google and other big companies probably have a better chance due to their sheer size and networks.
The great thing about Perplexity is that it doesn't cook up answers on the fly, the way other generative AI models like GPT do.

I do use perplexity and it is really the most useful ai tool I found as a student, in-fact I have used it many times instead of google for various research projects from my school and it truly makes my job simpler by giving the exact info that I want and not bombarding me with unnecessary extra stuff.
