Flying the Air Canada Rouge 767! Premium Rouge Orlando to Toronto

  • Air Canada Rouge is Air Canada’s vacation brand, and at the time this was filmed, flew a fleet of A320 family aircraft and 25 Boeing 767s.
These 25 767s were sadly retired from passenger service in the spring, but I had the chance to fly one at the end of 2019.
With Rouge having recently restarted operations, I figured now was as good a time to share it as any!

It’s nice to know that some of the 767’s are coming back to AC for passenger service. They are debating if it’s going to mainline or Rouge, it’ll make more sense to bring it back to Rouge. Looking forward to see the 67’s flying again 🙌🏼

Hey thanks for this Alex. We flew down on AC Rouge last December YYZ - MCO. Our first 767 had an engine issue so we sat at the gate for a bit but the crew gave us excellent communication. They swapped aircraft for the same interior as yours. It wasn’t nearly as nice.
We were upgraded to premium rouge on an A321 last summer and we loved the seats!

At the end of the flight when I stepped out of the cockpit I had this sinking feeling that would be the last time I'd be flying the 767 for Rouge. I doubt we'll see the 767 come back to AC/Rouge in a passenger configuration but possibly as a freighter?

I flew a couple times on Rouge to Domincan Republic (YYZ-PUJ-YYZ), once back from Florida(RSW- YYZ) and have to say, I enjoyed it a lot. Space is not the tightest, as like on WJ 737's, and food not bad, before Covid. The best place was in the front of Economy, where there are two seats on both sides ( 2X3X2) for a few rows before it expands to three, nice spot for a couple to travel in. Loved the 767.

Aside from the rowdy drunk golfers and constant presence of germ-factory babies on Rouge, agree that the revamped 767 cabin was nice, at least the one time I took it. The slim seats and armrests in Economy give you a small but appreciated increase in room over the mainline 767.

The most amazing thing to happen to an Air Canada Boeing 767 was when one ran out of fuel mid-flight, causing the pilot to divert the plane to what he thought was an abandoned runway in Gimli, Manitoba. However, the pilot was wrong. It wasn’t abandoned; it had been converted into a drag racing strip and when the plane landed, it almost hit two kids who were on bicycles. The good news: No one died and the plane was still capable of flight, but it was completely out of fuel so they had to get it to an airport, refuel the plane and fly it to a place where it could receive repairs

“Air Canada Rouge remains an important part of our overall strategy in rebuilding Air Canada’s global network. As leisure traffic resumes, we will progressively add Air Canada Rouge to select North American leisure markets from Eastern Canada,” Have we not suffered enough? With Transat a purchase proposition Rouge best be flown to the desert. My issue was putting it into mainline service and taking out mainline aircraft. Hence the reason I do not want these sharks to get federal money for more horrible flying. Air Canada has to have better standards and consumer focus. Transat is a much better brand than Rouge and the Feds just lets AC kill competition without blinking. How about a complete revamp of national essential public transportation services.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but Rouge is a complete rip-off. Several times, I've bought a ticket on Air Canada (for business travel) at full price, and have been disappointed to discover I was being flown on a Rouge aircraft. Rouge seats leave something to be desired, but the lack of in-seat entertainment systems and air vents is extremely frustrating. I will never again knowingly fly on Rouge. And I'm not a travel ingenue. AC Elite for 15 years plus (and a former glider pilot). Visited 70 countries and all 7 continents.

Rouge is beyond awful. There is no sugarcoating it. It is the single most egregious thing that makes me always look elsewhere for an alternative. Air Canada said they were scheduling Rouge on "under served routes". What? Atlantic Canada always has maximum loads. My AC boycott holds firm until they bury that absolutely awful sub brand.
