It has become a national athhem of sorts for Roadies worldwide. On a personal note, I started my professional road life many years ago working under the tutaledge of Motorhead's original crew member Pappy from Edinburgh, Scotland. Mentioned in the verses of Motorheads "Going to Brazil"... "Pappy's stuck in second class, and he ain't fkn happy" A wonderful gentle soul who I'll always remember with a smile and a tear. Bless him.

The top five could switch around but they are definitely my top five. The rest of the album could flip flop also. Great album and no doubt hard to put in a specific order. Classic album for a reason. Great show as always gentlemen. Always a good time. Would be a blast to sit down and have a few beers and talk music in person but since that will probably never happen this will have to do.

Cool album! A lot of this was new to me (sorry, never really gotten into Motorhead), but it was a lot of fun. I feel like the title track is so amazing and famous that the rest of the album can buckle under of the weight of it, so I made the (controversial?) decision to move it to the end of my playlist during my playthroughs and it did help the other tracks shine a lot more. I do think the album starts to lose steam near the end, though, particularly after Jailbait. Not that it slows down, just becomes a bit less memorable. I'd be interested in your thoughts on the production on here as well.
    My ranking:
    1. Ace of Spades
    2. Fast and loose
    3. Shoot you in the back

That MHCC Ozzy/Motorhead show in 81 I was at. We came from Glens Falls to see Motorhead specifically. First time to see them. We got there before and went around back to see if they were outside but no. As we’re walking away a limo screams around the corner and goes back there. Motörhead jump out. I yell “Motorheaaaaad!” and we run back and get handshakes on their way inside. Philthy didn’t shake hands. He held a plastic hand attached to a scissor grip that extended the hand towards you and he had us shake that! Perfect! Went inside and got into the 2nd row, just ahead of you by the sound of it. Motörhead came on and it was all dry ice and lights, ears pinned back, wall of sound as you say. I was floored by it but we had to move , the people who had tickets there showed up then after a song and a half. Great show by both bands!

One of my top bands and this is my favorite album from them. For me this is a perfect album and would rank in an all time top 10 list. Some of their best songs throughout. Overplayed as it is I still never get tired of hearing the title track. "We Are The Road Crew" is a great example of Lemmy`s songwriting talents, "Dance" is hilarious, and "The Hammer" is savage. I only wish they didn`t sequence the CD version tracks differently than the vinyl, I always thought this had a great flow to it.

What a fantastic episode! As Rimmer from Red Dwarf once said, 'It's important to know the classics, Mozart, Mendelssohn and Motörhead!' I saw Motörhead in Norwich in 2004 (supported by Sepultura!) and they were phenomenal! The encore kicked off with 'Whorehouse Blues', Mikkey and Phil playing acoustics and Lemmy swaggering on with a cigar and JD and coke, my mate turned to me and shouted, 'Wow even when Motörhead play acoustic they're bloody loud!' Overkill and AoS followed and well rock n' roll doesn't get better than that!
I would have loved to have seen the classic line up too but it was before my time. Anyway I agree with the panel, there's not one dud amongst these, it's a brilliant album,so here's the Ace of Spades ranking:
    1. Ace of Spades
    2. Live to Win
    3. Jailbait
    4. Shoot you in the Back
    5. (We Are) the Road Crew
    6. The Chase is Better than the Catch
    7. Love Me like a Reptile
    8. Bite the Bullet
    9. Dance
    10. Fire, Fire
    11. The Hammer

And to paraphrase the great man, 'We'll never forget Motörhead!'

I think Bite The Bullet is a superb way to build straight into The Chase is Better Than The Catch. Both songs are great, but they really come alive when played as one. I agree regards Eddie's contribution on this album, and Lemmy nails it too, but for me Philthy owns the album.

    3 Bite the bullet
    4 Jailbait

Very enjoyable video guys as always! To me you are very brave to rank an individual Motorhead album as it is something I would not particularly wish to take on. Certainly not with the bands best albums as I would find that something incredibly difficult to do. Motorhead are one of those bands that I tend to just play the whole album and enjoy it without thinking too much about how much I prefer one song over another. Whilst saying that certain songs really do stand out from the bands catalogue to me such as `Killed By Death` and ...yes...`Ace of Spades`. AOS has as Steven said been overused through the years but it has played a very important part in keeping the Motorhead/Heavy Rock flag flying. Most people I know don`t know anything about Motorhead other than AOS which on the one hand is a shame, however it at least is something and something is better than nothing! AOS was even used on a British soap opera called `Emmerdale` with a couple of the soap characters playing along to AOS on the Playstation/Xbox game `Rock Band`.
I like albums that are around the thirty six minute long mark. I never mark down Motorhead for the lyrics used as I feel they fit the band and this type of music and the time they were written in. God forbid that someone come`s along one day and insists yesterday`s music has to be re-recorded to erase any `sensitive` material as they are beginning to do with literature. I think the opening `rumble` for AOS is heavy rock gold!

Easy- all songs on Ace of Spades are 11; Fire, Fire is probably my favourite track on the album and one of my top Motörhead songs. I've always preferred the original North American track order which had Chase opening the album and AoS opening the second side; that's how I grew up with it and it just feels right and sounds better to me (I love the opening snare hit on Chase to open the record); I always change the track order to that when I put it on any digital device. Also, when it's cold and snowy here on the South Coast of British Columbia, I say we're having a Scottish heatwave.

1 We are the road crew. I think this song, more than any other Motorhead song, epitomizes who the band is. It is my favorite motorhead song ever. As soon as I heard it on No Sleep till hammersmith, nothing would ever top it when it comes to Motorhead. While the song Ace of Spades is their signature song IMHO,, We are the road crew is the song just tells who is band is and how they live perfectly.

One more comment for Pete- Check out the Stranglers TOTP appearance when they didn't even try and they all appeared holding instruments they did not even play, to lipsync poorly and then aggressively 'fuck all this' to mock the studio 'audience'. the level of disdain was through the freakin' ROOF!! (This is in reference to your statement about British bands whom HATED TOTP appearances.)

    Another great UK Connection.
I have not really listened to Ace of Spades as I tend to go for the first 2 albums I ever had which were Overkill and Another Perfect Day.
Before I listened to the album I thought my
number 1 was going to be (We Are) The Road Crew. But, something changed.
The album kicks off really well and falters after Jailbait.
    So my rankings are:
    1. Shoot You in the Back
    2. (We Are) The Road Crew
    3. Ace of Spades
    4. Live to Win
    5. Jailbait (despite the lyrics)
    6. Love Me Like a Reptile
    7. Fast and Loose
    8. The Chase is Better Than the Catch
    9. Bite the Bullet
    10. Dance (with a Tiger Feet feel)
    11. Fire Fire
    12. The Hammer (to my ears an inversion of the Ace of Spades)
Although the last five could be swapped around.

I have a different theory about getting sick of hearing overplayed songs you liked in the beginning. If you get sick of it, even after not listening to it for 5 years, then it wasn’t a very good song in the first place. The really great ones, you don’t get sick of. You just need to take a break from them once in a while.

I agree, find this album heavily overrated might even be my least favourite from the classic era I even kind of dig the debut more. Too many of these songs sound like they came from the same basic idea almost like they should've been b-sides only, in that sense it’s a bit overrated frankly apart from its iconic title track. The albums before and even the albums to follow, had way more interesting songs.
