- A series about frightening moments or events that can't be covered with Creepy Bad Endings or Creepy Time Limits.
For the fifth episode, I'm covering the events of Live A Live's Sci-fi chapter. Also may double as a walkthrough of the chapter as well.
This is another one of those videos that ended up way longer than originally intended. Why I keep making this mistake over and over, I don't know.

Darth killed a behemoth, but in the end, died...
still waiting for his coffee.
Rip in coffees
+Luigiofthegods He was too slow to reach the coffee machine... his last words were "damn you... my great... great... great... great... grandfather... barth... urgghh..."
hope you watched whoisthisgit's "really stupid fire emblem challenge", otherwise you won't understand that shitty joke.
+Ruben Fernandez Urgh...if...only...my resistance...was higher....
+Luigiofthegods Nah, the epilogue of the chapter pretty much said that Kato and Darth managed to survive along with Cube. Then Darth retired from the military following the incident. :P
Still, that was a total dick move. XDDD By having Cube kill itself, there's a good chance Odio would succeed later!
and if you choose to play as Cube at the finale, he will fly trough space before Oersted summons him
One benefit of the remake this chapter got:
Adding extra lines for Read More to show up, in case you'd like to dodge spoilers.
So during loading screens, the game tells you little tips and stuff, and occasionally talks about lore stuff. For this chapter, it's nearly all lore, talking about how the medbay and rec room works, even talking about coffee for one point.
Well, during the finale here, if you speak to the computer (called Decamus) it'll tell you to stop resisting, it's futile, this entire ship is it's domain.
Following that line of dialogue, any time a loading screen message pops up, instead of telling you about the airlock or the bridge or whatever, it just repeats that same message. "This ship is my domain, and I it's master."
Makes it feel like 0D-10 has a grip even on your game itself. Really excellent touch.
definitely one of the scariest odios in the game
That genuinely made me uneasy
Too bad the loading is so fast but you can at least notice this

Suffering from success
Man, Live A Live was an ambitious game.
Not to argue, but you mean that in the "set high goals" way and nothing more, right? I'm used to that term being associated with crappy games with good ideas, see.
I meant that it did a lot of stuff that hasn't or even isn't done that often. Live a Live was made at a time when games could be as experimental as they want, and this game really went with it.
Yahtzee said something in his Deus Ex video about games being more experimental early on. The old games, like this one, take much less work and require less memory to make even a game with hours of story and hundreds of choices easier and quicker to make then a modern game using our modern tools. You could spend thousands making a game like this using pixelated 2d graphics and sprite, but people wouldn't pay it much attention these days without a gimmick of some kind. Or, you could spend millions making a Gears Of War or Assassins Creed game, which couldn't possibly be as deep or experimental, yet reach a larger audience simply for being modern.

Too bad it never came to America because.....reasons....
I just imagined Cube being a coffee machine and saying "Coffee!" Every time he hands out the coffee, and thinks the solution to all the problems is Coffee, so he just goes around saying "Coffee!" To random people around the ship trying to make them feel better, even during the airlock thing during Rachael's breakdown
I imagine him saying "Coffee time!" The way Peter said in Spider-Man 2
I was about to imagine him give Oersted coffee instead of flowers
then I realize that coffee is too bitter

During the countdown for the remake, the team made drawings for some extra hype and maybe even some "what if" scenarios, and when there were 12 days left, they had a drawing of Cube giving coffee to Oersted.
"I want some coffee."
Cube: "Suicide is bassass!"
Cube's only fight is aginest OD-10, Cube is one of the strongest characters in the game!
yet, his attacks are releated to hacking.
Cube can kill Odio by simply hacking him, or staring deep into Oersted's little soul
Cube can do fights in Chapter 9
Although I have to wonder. Cube is competent at combat, even being able to 1v1 the likes of Oboro and Pogo with proper strategy. Yet the Behemoth one-shots him. But Darth trashes the Behemoth.
Which begs the question: how badass is Darth?

The hell i miss this game lol. Tho i am more surprised this is well made story akin to space oddesey but from ai prespective. Heck the momment i saw circular unit near the console enough to give me hal vibe.... As hidden gem hunter i feel defeated XD.
That aside cube story seems to be be a great survival horror better them most modern titles.
DoctorSpacebar I think the better question is, just how powerful is the Behemoth?
I played this game at a friends house and when I did the sci-fi chapter I finally knew what it's like to be a supporting character and not the main hero.
More like a supporting character that turns out to be the biggest badass of all. White Knight Chronicles does a better job of "you're the supporting character," by the way. The online has been shut down though.
You were serious when you said you were going to save... at every step.... LOL
In the end, Cube made it back to earth, and then became a NES.
Kalilz Facci I saw what you did there

The remake of this game made the behemoth MUCH more terrifying to deal with. My heart was destroyed by it.

I've actually started this game a couple of days ago, and the Cube's chapter was the first one I've picked. Felt some major Alien and Space Odyssey vibes while playing. The fact that there is no music aside from an ambient track really helps the atmosphere.
I remember the scene in the Rachel's room being longer though. Why have you decided to cut it? Her mad ramblings were pretty creepy. One of the most memorable points of this chapter for me.

If this game was released for the SNES outside of Japan, it would only be maybe two and a half minutes long with all their censorship, lol.
Simaginary Friend Nah, they would just change some names, for example, Pissed Fist into Angry Fist.

And now, you can be! In glorious 2D HD! Comes out in July!
Every time I kill a Behemoth in Final fantasy, it will be vengeance for Huey.
Is it me, or is Cube on the thumbnail looked like something out of Kirby? XD
It could have been a Mini-Boss or Boss design in Planet Robobot if it were allowed. It could have been like a Mirror of Kirby, knowing their Every Move. Then if you defeat it, you could get Smash Kirby (?).
Is that a weird idea?

On the contrary I think your longer videos tend to be the best ones actually! Your own analysis of games in general are so interesting I just think the longer they are the better. Don't get me wrong I enjoy your shorter made videos too, I just like the longer ones that little bit extra more. :)
Agreed, I really like the longer ones for the depth and detail he goes in
Characters explicitly stated as dead, murder accusations, attempted suicide, and a lot of 'Dammit's. Were the Nintendo Of America censors on strike when this game was localized?
The game wasn't localized. This is a fan translation.
EDIT: I'm no expert on CZcams standards but... why did this get 19 likes?
+ruth mcnally Don't forget the attack Pissed Fist. But yea, makes you wonder how the game would've looked like if it had been officially localised.

And yet he's the one that kills it.
That's some straight-up LOGIC right there.
The behemoth in the remake nearly gave me a heart attack a couple of times
True. there are already a few fixed encounters of behemoth to give you a surprise but the original is easier to react (like in 14:36), you just see it and walk carefully, but the remake's one will make you want to run for your life (it also chases you)

This is perhaps the most engaged I've been with the story of an SNES/SFC game. I was legitimately on the edge of my seat for the majority of this video, wondering who would make it out alive. And to think that this is just 1 of 8 short stories included in the game.
I gave up with this game since the ninja chapter bored me to hell. This channel just showed me how much I missed in this and Oersted's chapter. Maybe it's time of giving it another try.
Well, I don't blame you. This game could have been much better polished in many parts.
The Ninja chapter in particular is very ambitious for its time and I love what it's going for, but it just isn't much fun to play.
@@whoisthisgit Oh man, I didn't know you still respond comments from such an old video lol that's awesome. And yeah, Oboro's chapter sounded pretty interesting at first but for me ended up being just a cheap stealth minigame. It was a big dissapointment after playing Sundown's chapter.

Oh shit, this game. This chapter is so awesome, I actually got a buddy of mine to play it. At first he found it boring, but I told him to keep going, and soon he was totally into it.
This part of the game has an "Alien" and a "2001: A Space Odyssey" Vibe to it...and at the end there's a bit of a "Terminator" type vibe for Darth's story, and a bit of a Star Wars reference in Darth's name.
12:20 "Dammit, Rachel, only I'm allowed to be stupid enough to do that!"
Murder, on a spaceship? With an impersonation subplot and you travel through vents? Did Live A Live predict Among Us?
When I first played Among Us, it reminded me of Cube's chapter. Someone on their development team definitely played this when they were young.
Cube was not the impostor...
Among us is horsedung.
I am glad this game is getting some attention.

Akira Tadokoro Well,if it does somehow gets super popular the fetish stuff WILL happen. It's a given. But it will still be nice for it to get more exposure.
I could see Kato saying “it’s a good thing we went and got the *wantanabe* upgrade” and the player knowing exactly what’s going to happen next
Unless they decided to play Distant Future first.
all the bosses in this game are named some variation on "odio"

The behemoth in the remake was freaking terrifying. Scared the hell out of me. I forgot he looked kinda cute in the original.
Yeah watching this before I was expecting it but instead of being right outside the door it instead comes towards you charging full speed down the corridor.
I guess that caught me off guard
@@nekonomicon2983 I was expecting the behemoth to be vastly improved in the remake. I was not disappointed.
The remake has successfully amped up the creepy factor. For starters, that alien behemoth is even bigger and harder to maneuver around, and you can hear it galloping around when it's nearby. Something else that really chilled my spine is that during one part of the chapter, all of the loading screen tutorials say the exact same thing, similar to the "resistance is futile" message. There is one downside, IMO. The Captain Square music is louder in the break room, and that earworm of a tune really breaks the atmosphere later on.
The behemoth scared the crap out of me 3 times, two times in the hallways and once in the demo. I pushed the button to observe it and it was facing me and really caught me off guard lol. The other times I'd leave a room and it was right there galloping towards me. The creepy music that sounds like footsteps in the vents didn't help. And the most disturbing part of the entire chapter was Kirk's death and them trying to revive him, I kind of sat there in shock at just how chilling it was. Then you talk to the corpse and the description is a bit too....real.
of course the captain square music can also foreshadow how its the one place OD-10 has NO power over
@@GalanOfTruthRachel in her room with his body definitely gave of creepy vibes, especially if you analyze everything in her room after doing so before Kirk’s death.
The whole chapter is like one of those Horror RPG Maker Games you'd see online, all besides the boss fight, which to me made it feel ahead of it's time.

Hello Git. Can I just say that I like your style of commentary. The fact that you use text to make comments on certain parts make the video more about the game than your commentary and that makes it feel very informative.
I always look forward to your next video.
Always a real pleasure to see you talk Live-A-Live again, like Breath of Fire 2, you've truly introduced me to another really great JRPG, after doing a playthrough I honestly have to say that it's become one of my favorite JRPGs of all time. So yeah, thanks for all that, you beautiful git, you. ;>

WITH A LIGHTSABER!!!!!!!!!!
God after playing this in the remake, this is officially my favorite chapter in the game.
The behemoth is kinda like the ultimate chimera from mother 3
one touch and your dead!
This was definitely the scariest and most intense chapter in the game (except maybe the final one). Even though I knew the behemoth only popped up in certain areas, I couldn't shake the paranoia that it would come charging into the corridor I was currently in at any moment if I stayed around dawdling, so I had to keep moving! The cutscenes were my moments of relief...
Way to kick a man when he's down. I can see what the writers were going for with that message to Huey about him failing his test. But since he was already dead, wouldn't it have been better if he had actually passed? That seems a tad more tragic to me.

I had to come back to this video, years later, because of yesterday's events
What happens if you give Darth the coffee
Nothing special happens, Darth pretty much just says "Mmhmm I love the taste of bitter coffee".
The bad ending
The remake really amplified the creepiness and horror elements of this chapter. The behemoth is also much more frightening.
Edit: I’d say that warrants a redux of this chapter like you did Near Future.
And now we wait for the remake… Which will hopefully talk about how scary the Behemoth is this time too.
Came back here after playing this chapter in the remake...yeah the remake is actually kinda scary with the Behemoth.

I played this chapter on the switch remake and it's definitely very atmospheric. There's some changes in the switch version though, like Kato almost calling cube "roundy" which honestly is probably an even worse name than rover
Naming things was never his forte
So we basically got ourselves a HAL-9000 situation up in this ship.
Got it.
If I had to describe the creepiest moment in this chapter? Losing to OD-10. Honestly, that extra screen of text it shows you, accompanied with that music is just spine chilling and fills you with despair...
You could almost make this part of Creepy Bad Endings, since the Game Over message is different and it tells you about how you failed...if only the entire chapter wasn't so creepy as well!
Then again, describing the whole chapter as a creepy 'moment' makes it seem like the longest moment ever.
Also, was that FIN ending edited in by you? Or can you actually make it to Earth by exiting the airlock after fighting OD-10?
>If I had to describe the creepiest moment in this chapter? Losing to OD-10. Honestly, that extra screen of text it shows you, accompanied with that music is just spine chilling and fills you with despair...

Holy shit the remake made that thing even more terrifying
I feel bad for everyone in this chapter good god
Oh my god. I just realised, for the first time, despite watching this video at least 5 times over the years, that OD-10 (the ship’s computer) is a parallel of Odio, the final boss!
All of the boss names are different spellings of Odio
Because they are all recantations of Odio's hatred.
Hey Git! I actually want to ask a couple of questions about you, you don't have to answer these, I won't mind, but here you go!
1. Are you (in real life) Male or Female?
2. Least favorite video game character?
3. Will you do a boss analysis on a boss you hate again?
4. Will you do a boss analysis on every boss in Live-A-Live?
5. Do you think Oersted is a great villian in Live-A-Live?
+cdsatcher 1. Male
2. Can't really decide on a definitive one, but Sullivan from Dead Rising 2, Otis from DR1, Professor Pester from Viva Pinata, Deathevn from Breath of Fire II, Kjelle from Fire Emblem Awakening all come to mind.
3. Perhaps, I also might cover all the bosses from a game that has a boss I hate.
4. Maybe, but the battle system in this game confuses me at times.
5. Definitely, because you can't help feeling bad for him, perhaps even relate to him sometimes.
