      And yet people who love palworld and claim to like pokemon keep asking for a pokemon game on the scale of palworld but also say that exact thing, that SV is buggy on a handheld console. You can't have both and people who think that palworld is ANY competition to the largest franchise in the world are clueless idiots. Pokemon doesn't give two shits about palworld and if we could just let palworld be its own thing without constantly comparing the two, the better it'll be.

      I could not agree more with this. I was so disillusioned with Pokemon I felt like I was buying the games just to keep up. But now Palworld has like actually set me free. I've grown to disdain Pokemon because I was able to see what a handful of ragtag developers were able to do. And it runs so much better than Pokemon. Pokemon has needed to change for a long time because they're only targeting young kids as their Target base. But in this world it's adult who buy video games. Kids nowadays are just into the next battle pass.

      Only thing i don't like in palworld are the human designs, they look out of place, i think they might aswell go the same route as they did for the monsters for consistency and make better humans than pokemon.
      Which shouldn't be hard to do as the Scarlet/Violet humans most look horrible

      As much as I love and Want Monster Rancher to come back, it won't and I have to accept it.
      Yokai Watch will most likely never come back to the U.S. due to Pokemon fans rejecting it so that's out.
      Coromon was cool but it wasn't doing it for me.
      I've played Nexomon 1,2, and might play Nexomon 3....but I'm not that interested in it.
      Palworld has me hooked for the long run, I'm invested in it now. Now I can't wait for more merch, T-shirts, cards, plushies, etc. I love Palworld now and its high time for me to move on from Pokemon, I've been a fan for 30 years and I've spent almost my whole life hoping for it to get better, it won't.

    What gets me about Pokemon after Palworld is that you can use Pokemons ONLY for battling.
    Never in my life hava I thought "Oh god, my pc box is filling up with Pokemons!" while playing Pokemone, I barely fill a single box. Ill be going wild if I filled up even half of the first PC box.
    In Palworld I am halfway through filling up the entire Palbox. I am procrastinating on that soul harvesting thing but I need to get to it or my Palbox will be full in another 15 hours.
    In just shy of 20 hours I have gotten more attached and spent more time with my Pals than I have ever been to any of my Pokemons. Its so hard for me to tear down my old bases because I dont want to rip up what me and my Pals have built.
    And filling out the Pokedex? It doesnt matter at all in Pokemon, but in Palworld I am trying to catch every single mon not necessarily to fill out the dex, but because I want to see if I can use any other pal as ammunition for my rocket launcher.

Instead of hating on Palworld, the pokemon fans (me included) should be glad that something came along that will potentially light a fire under Game Freak's ass, and inspire them to actually do something revolutionary. Pokemon earns 10x more in merchandising than in video game sales, so as long as the character designs hold up, GameFreak will not care about the quality of the game - especially if they keep selling the same regardless.

    • @legobrick1356
      @legobrick1356 Před 7 měsíci +4

      And I'm sure that most of that merchandising profit is likely _just_ from them exploiting gambling addicts.

    • @sirpaladinknight5491
      @sirpaladinknight5491 Před 6 měsíci +2

      True most pokemon sales is from merchandise, however the games still make up the backbone of the series, without it eventually the brand will crumble, even if it takes awhile, things like the anime is based on the games, the new pokemon is based on the games, everything with pokemon harkens back to the games.
      Each video game they make is like an advertisement for the merchandise, it's much like an elevator pitch trying to convince the player to buy the merchandise, Josh strife Hayes has a very good video on the subject for further details, but to summarize if the games don't make a good first impression than there won't be a incentive to buy a plushie of a pokemon. Plus people are more likely to buy what they have an emotional attachment too, so even if the new pokemon designs are good, it's unlikely people will buy merchandise of them if they don't care or know about them because they didn't play or like the games. This applies to the anime too, however unlike the games the anime is actually good including its new seasons so it's more effective than the games in that regard.
      ( edit, to give an example of what I mean about the merchandise thing, you can look at examples like Rick and Morty, back when it was popular and when the show was good merchandise flew off the shelves, now they end up rotting in warehouses, and on the flipside you can look at fnaf which is doing very well in merch sales because the core content is still popular, debatable if it's good though, now while pokemon is still popular its public perception is waning which is why it's important they release a good game)
      Also it's debatable if alot of new pokemon designs are any good, of course there is some new memorable designs, but for every one of those there's like 5 new forgettable pokemon, at least in my opinion, obviously taste is subjective so it's okay if you disagree.

The games just go hand in hand with whatever the plan is for the series. Same with people hating on Nintendo on this. This is the rare exlusive franchise where they just publish and don't have any hand in. Not calling them saints but on the matter of Palworld neither Nintendo or Game Freak are not to blame for this. Palworld to me is a perfectly formulated memento mori laid at gamefreak's feet, a grim and well deserved reminder that everything pokemon has built throughout it's almost 30 year existence as a multi media leviathan of a franchise could come crashing down before gamefreak's very eyes should they continue to be so maliciously complacent with their stale unchanging game design. The foundations pokemon is built on are rotting and we may be reaching the point where it won't need to be some other big corpo with loads of money to finally break those foundations with a big expensive wrecking ball of a game, it could just be like 10 people in a small company with sledgehammers that finally deliver that final killing blow that pokemon can't recover from. helps that the game is pretty decent too.

      To be fair the games were never really the major revenue stream for pokemon. There are a lot of pokemon fans who never even played the gamefreak games before, from watching the tv show or movies, or playing pokemon games outside of gamefreak. Apparently even the card games make almost half as much as the games do. So even if the games died, it wouldn't kill pokemon. I doubt palworld is going to make palworld movies and plushies, and a card game.

    • @NepNepTech
      @NepNepTech Před 6 měsíci

      @@Lilitha11 that is true, but at least right now without the games there is no new pokemon and with no new pokemon there is no new merch and thus revenue will drop unless they just start adding new pokemon via the card game, show or plushies. If people stop buying the games I do think it will be harder for them to form that personal connection between people and certain pokemon that sells those big merch numbers. I do agree though that it wouldn't kill pokemon if the games died at least maybe not right away and yeah I SINCERELY doubt we're gonna be seeing official Relaxasaurus plushies anytime soon. Overall I just find myself wondering how long they can keep just spinning the wheel like this. My favorite game of all time is Pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of sky and it's just genuinely infuriating to watch Nintendo, gamefreak and pokemon company just waste the true potential of this already golden goose of a franchise.

    My main gripes with modern Pokemon, is that they feel dated when they come right out the gate, both visually and mechanically.
    We have Scarlet and Violet coming out and they look like they're 5-7yrs out of date, while also playing in a rather janky manner, while Palworld is a game in early access that has expectations to be jank and yet it still feels less disjointed than S&V still is.
    Also at this point I'm beyond done with Pokemon picking up a gimmick and abandoning it by the next game, or the fact that their franchise is still turn based. I'd kill for a Pokemon game that's got visuals better than the tripe that is S&V, and have actual real time battles and real exploration, but Gamefreak won't do that, and Nintendo won't fund for it either, because they know die hard Ninty fans will lap up less and pay more for it.
    This is why Palworld is going to win, because it's a combination of ideas Nitnendo cba to combine in the first place and they've become fart too complacent in the mon game for decades now.
    I used to be a fan of Pokemon since Red & Blue, but hopped off around Sun & Moon, because I got fed up with how repetitive and stale the franchise had gotten by then.

      "This is why Palworld is going to win"
      Win what exactly? They aren't competition and Palworld isn't stealing any customers because it's two separate platforms and genres. As a pokemon fan since the originals, I don't want my pokemon ANYWHERE like palworld, just want the open world and catching. No guns, no dumb survival unless it makes sense within pokemon till you reach the next town, I don't want my pokemon to labor away. Palworld is ark with a pokemon mod, I've literally felt like I played the game before.
      If SV are so buggy, you Really Really think they can pull off something on the scale of palworld and it not be a disaster? In order to do that they need to come out with either a stronger console or be on PC and currently they aren't doing either. The switch is showing its age. It can't do much more.

    • @sirpaladinknight5491
      @sirpaladinknight5491 Před 6 měsíci +2

      @shadowshatto Palworld IS competition for pokemon, but not in ways that are obvious at first glance. Firstly and most importantly it shows players what pokemon can be. Even if pokemon fans don't play Palworld it's still likely to leave an impression given just how popular it has become.
      Secondly many people who do own a switch also own something like a computer or Xbox, like bare minimum most people own a computer at least for office or work related reasons. And those who do own a switch only are either children which shouldn't really matter in this case as most don't have disposable income to even buy a new pokemon game, or they are simply casual gamers, in either case while both make up some game sales. The main audience who buys pokemon games are adults, and given most pokemon players are adults, majority of them are going to want a more refined and mature pokemon game which Game Freak is not delivering , thus leading to sales twords games like Palworld which scratches that itch. That is one of the major reasons it blew up actually is because it gives players what pokemon won't. And the sales numbers speak for themselves with a ton of sales for Palworld in such a short period of time. So yes it is competition for pokemon.
      And while the switch's hardware is indeed outdated, it can still run some impressive games, such as breath of the wild , xenoblade, skyrim. Too name a few examples. Pokemon could do that too, it's just simply incompetence and inexperience that holds them back, the reason the optimization on recent pokemon games are so bad is because firstly they have little experience with 3D games, but also because the way they handle pokemon on a technical level is keeping them all loaded beneath the map so they can be called forward when needed, which might I say is super inefficient and outdated. Due to this scarlet and violet and previous games are laggy. Among other technical reasons.

    Palworld does a lot towards helping make this feel like a reality.

    I think the coolest best part of Pokemon undeniably, still to this day is.. the way you can transfer mon's from... I believe it started in Gen 3? Gen 2 and maybe 1 remake has it, where you have a second console, trade and transfer from your GBA to your DS, for instance... Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire had this ribbon achievement thing where your pokemon was from the very original Ruby/Sapphire, that means, they moved their pokemon from Gen 3 > Gen 4 > Gen 5 > Gen 6 (not sure if it must be X/Y or it can move from black/white to ORAS) ... the way it handles that is kind of amazing and impressive, annoying but seamless in old hardware. While it was exploitable with hackers to make perfect pokemon... it's undeniably a cool feature, and it's the only feature I think is somewhat worth keeping, but, at this rate, I'd even discard that for a completely new game on the table.. don't necessarily have to because they have/had pokebank and pokehome.. my biggest move was Soul Silver Lugia n stuff to Omega Ruby, having to complete the games was annoying cause I don't like Gen 5 and it was the only way.
    I'm surprised to hear Emerald sold the least, being one of the best. Pokemon doesn't need guns, it needs innovation, and I'd prefer they discard the turn base at least for one game to see how it turns out.. they already did this with Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl, unity games that don't do what I just mentioned apparently..if they can happily make junk like that, I don't think for once, a non-turn based game release would hurt them... it wouldn't. Final Fantasy made their ESRB to M and it didn't hurt lol, but Pokemon would never go T or M.

    I think a big part of the reason why Gamefreak's games have been so lackluster is because of the larger business model around Pokemon. Last I heard, the sales of the games themselves only make up 18% of the total revenue. Anime, merchandise, cards, etc. make up the rest. Those projects can't launch until the new Pokemon game launches, and as such, Gamefreak is severely constrained by time. That's not an excuse so much as it is the sad reality of large corporations. Anyway, Palworld is awesome, and a little healthy competition is good for the consumers. Perhaps the Pokemon Company will sit up and take notice. After all, the only guarantor of success is a quality product that people want to buy.

    The 10th generation is coming so they might finally be persuaded into making something good. 😅

    The fact that Gamefreak devs cant develop a modern games aside... Gamefreak/Nintendo so far had absolulty no reason to put any effort into Pokemon games for about 15 years now, they are simply too big to fail. They dont have to evolve, because the only reason these games and the anime exist, is to promote the Pokemon franchise as a whole. it simply is better to do quicker releases, so the brand feels "active" and "modern" instead of developing one games for 4-7years like Zelda or the Xenoblade games. If the pokemon-games were developed for around 5-6 years and were fantastic, bugfree and sold 50-70mio copies, they would stil lose more money, compared to releaseing 2-3 games in the same timespan... simply due to less sold merch

    Palworld is what pokemon games should’ve been, palworlds monsters have more soul and feel more natural than any recent Pokemon game. The creatures actually interact with the world and u can see 2 random mons fighting each other and actually behaving like creatures instead of just standing and walking around slowly in a large area. Obviously palworld could have more depth but it’s a small team, while pokemon the largest franchise has no excuse for not making their game not feel immersive. (I’m not saying pokemon games need guns and needs to turn into a survival game just saying it needs to feel like an adventure instead of a chore)
    I just want a pokemon game that feels close to the anime in terms of exploration/adventure, a sense of danger when trying to catch wild pokemon and maybe real time combat? (Nothing is wrong with turn based but it would be nice for a change)

    I love how people are constantly misinformed about The Pokemon Company and Gamefreak. They are one and the same. TPC is made up of three other companies to control Pokemon. Nintendo, Creatures Inc. and Gamefreak. That is why it is so hard to tell Gamefreak to stop, they own it, they’re too stubborn and full of themselves to admit they suck at this and ask for outside help. Even when Ilca did BDSP someone from Gamefreak was looking over their shoulder telling them how they wanted the game to be, despite early concept art showing Ilca had a completely different vision for the remakes. Gamefreak is and abusive father milking Pokemon for all its value without letting it grow and evolve. Gamefreak will probably always be involved until it’s no longer profitable.
    All that said I am happy to see someone else call out the hardware BS argument Pokemon fans make for why it’s not good.

    "People weren't actually asking for palworld." Gamers never know what they want until they have it. Pokemon fans have been wanting a game like Palworld (clearly) even if they haven't been specifically asking for this particular combination of game mechanics for the last 2 decades.
    "What about Legends Arceus?" Legends Arceus was well received and greatly enjoyed. However, it's a spinoff series, so even though it did do well, and pokemon fans largely enjoyed it, your more average gamer is just going to wait for those good features to get wrapped up into the mainline series ("if it's so good"). Gamefreak messed it up in Scarlet and Violet though, maintaining their track record of two decades of stagnant game design.
    You know what doesn't have two decades of stagnant design philosophy smearing its name through the dirt? Palworld.

This is what I have wanted: Open World, real time combat, riding and walking with your Pokemon, fighting along side your pokemon. Legends Arceus BARELY addressed these, and was still poorly executed IMO. The survival crafting aspect may be something unexpected, but highly welcomed. Sometimes consumers don't know exactly what they want, but they know the feeling of what they expect. Palworld is the pokemon game people have been wanting for a long time, it's just not exactly what people expected.

    Palworld isn't what Pokémon should be, but rather the BARE MINIMUM of quality and creativity that Pokémon games should have. It isn't base building or guns or anything like that Pokémon games need, it is passion to make something that is unforgettable (or at least trying to not recycle the same stale format for decades). Imagine co-op tag team fights? Being able to climb, swim, and go wherever you want? Having team rocket be a recurring enemy that you can reduce the presence of by beating their region leaders (like Far Cry games for example)? Besides catching them all, you should also feel like you are going on a grand adventure that shapes the world around you, with your goals and imagination being the limit.

    I can't speak for everyone who has said that Palworld is what I wanted Pokemon to be, but when I do, I mean that more from a "living world" perspective than a strict gameplay perspective. When I was kid I wanted to play Pokemon like Ash battled Pokemon in the anime. I wanted to make my Pokemon dodge attacks and land attacks in a way that feels more satisfying than a textbox excitedly telling you that your fire attack was indeed effective against a grass type for the billionth time. I wanted to figure out ways to make combos in combat, and maybe even figure out ways to exploit the environment to my advantage in battle. I've been playing a rock-paper-scissors simulator for over 20 years. I'm over it.
    Sure, Palworld doesn't 100% deliver on that, but it's a hell of a lot closer than Pokemon has ever gotten. Even Legends: Arceus.

  • @CuppaGi
    @CuppaGi Před 7 měsíci

    "Fans have been asking for this for years" isn't referring to the survival aspect.
    What does Palworld let you do with your Pals?
    You can battle alongside them, ride them, have them help out in the base, etc. You can breed Pals for specific Jobs, like breeding down speed passives for a mount Pal or defensive passives for a tank Pal. Pal's in the wild can attack you directly, and you can attack them directly in return. You feel like a participant in the world, rather than some omniscient background force that orders the Pals around. I mean, lets be real. When you catch a monster, why do you suddenly know which four attacks it knows and can order it to use them? Pal's know what attacks they have, and will use them accordingly. Yes, you do know what they have access to as soon as you catch them, but since you can't order them to use any attacks it feels more natural. This even extends into Pal's not always learning the same moves on level up, and the skill fruits being able to give ANY Pal ANY attack.
    THAT is what we've been wanting from a Pokemon game. We want to feel like we're a part of the world. These creatures are meant to be our friends, that we bond with and grow alongside. But gameplay-wise, all we do is catch them and order them to battle.
    Legends Arceus was so popular because it gave us a TASTE of what we wanted. Palworld, however, has presented us with the entire dish. The whole meal. And then we find out that it was actually just the starter and first course? There's going to be MORE after this?!
    Honestly, I don't care much for the survival aspect. It's fun in its own right, but Pokemon doesn't need to adopt that. Let me engage with the world directly through my avatar. If there's a tree in the way, let me help my Pokemon cut it down. Let me balance on my Pokemon while surfing. Let me directly control my Pokemon using Fly. Let me help move Boulders with my Pokemon using Strength.
    Let me fight alongside my Pokemon against Wild Pokemon, we don't even need actual weapons. The Safari zone introduced us to throwing rocks, let us throw stones/rocks or use a slingshot to distract and interrupt wild Pokemon while our partner Pokemon deals the actual damage. Let us engage directly. You can have us give orders to our Pokemon in the classic turn based format for Trainer battles, but for the wild battles let our Pokemon act on their own if we so choose, while we assist them. I want to be friends with my Pokemon, not be their dictator.

    I don't think the situation for Pokémon is that bad. Another way to interpret the sales numbers is that people want games like Legends Arceus because Palworld and Legends Arceus are very similar games to each other once you factor out the base building (which is honestly not something I think Pokémon will ever add anyway, since Pokémon has always been about the journey). I think people like the open-world framework, throwing balls, seeing your Pokémon fight alongside you, dodge rolls, going up against bosses, collecting resources and crafting, filling in a dex, and getting XP bonuses, using Pokémon mounts, etc. Pokémon Legends Arceus did all of this, and pretty well. I'd say Palworld actually takes heavy inspiration from Legends Arceus considering many aspects of the UI, the inclusion of Alpha Pals, etc. are so similar.
    I just think the wrong conclusion here is to say, "Palworld shits on Pokémon". Does it? There are only 2 games on the market that have anything remotely close to this kind of gameplay, even outside of the survival aspects: Palworld and Legends Arceus. That's it. And if you don't want to buy a Switch, there's only 1 game in total. That doesn't sound like a "shitting on Pokémon" problem to me. This sounds like an underserved market.
    I have no doubt that going forward, Pokémon Legends Arceus style of Pokémon will be the direction Pokémon goes from now on. We know the internal files said Gen 10, despite the game being officially in Gen 8. This is where Game Freak is going, and they did it 2 years ago. 2 years in game development is not that long - certainly not long enough to say that "GameFreak is not innovating" when Legends Arceus was probably the biggest shakeup to the franchise ever. They just need to keep iterating on it, which is what they were going to do regardless if Palworld existed or not.
    We should also not dismiss the things that Pokemon does better. While it's not focused on base building, and staying in one spot, there is a stronger narrative component in the last 2 entries. I feel like that needs to be an even larger focus to differentiate itself from Palworld. Also, GameFreak can use its financial might and add more voice acting and production values to further differentiate itself from Palworld.
    Outsourcing Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pearl is also evidence that GameFreak is really done with the old formula. I would expect Legends Arceus to be where Pokémon is going. Palworld succeeding probably only gives more confidence in this direction.
    Lastly, we should also respect Pokemon for what it is - even Scarlet and Violet. Despite all of its ridiculous performance issues and rushed elements, the game is still enormously fun. Selling 23 million copies is no small feat. No matter how much CZcams and Twitter want to say otherwise, Scarlet and Violet are good games. I wish they had 6 months of polishing for sure, and I wish they borrowed more from Legends Arceus rather than being a half-step, but people still like these games. They even went back to play them every few weeks for raids too.

    • @sirpaladinknight5491
      @sirpaladinknight5491 Před 6 měsíci

      "Palworld shitting on pokemon" while I disagree with the wording is still a appropriate statement.
      The thing you are missing is pokemon is one of the most popular franchise's in existence with essentially a infinite budget. However the games they have released have been subpar, and palworld which was developed on a extremely cheap budget ( around 10,000 which is pennies in game development terms )with inexperienced devs still managed to put out a better polished and by most accounts more fun game than game freak has, that's why "palworld shits on pokemon"
      And while game freak is likely using legends arceus as a base moving forward, that still doesn't change the fact the games that they have released recently have been crap and uninspired.
      Now I will give credit where it is due, as you rightfully pointed out the recent pokemon games stories have been better.... for pokemon standards, they are still like a C- in comparison to any other competent game that's released in the last few years. However it still is more than palworlds story at the moment, since palworld is still in early access and is not finished yet that may change over time with a more developed story. Granted it's hard to have a decent story in survival games, but games like the forest have pulled it off so it is possible.

      @Katie-hb8iq Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@sirpaladinknight5491 Palworld is certainly fun, but polished is not exactly the word I would use. I have 40 hours in Palworld myself, and I've seen invisible walls, I've clipped through surfaces, etc. The pals themselves get stuck routinely and stop attacking. Bosses in the underground caves clip through walls or stop attacking and get reset after 1-2 minutes.
      The AI of the pals at the base are quite bad. They get stuck and stop moving, which means they can't feed themselves and they will get conditions or become incapacitated while you are away exploring. This is not the player's fault.
      The catch odds are also extremely messed up, where people are having 80% catches fail 10-times in a row several times a day, even with max effigies. This should not happen.
      The field of view is also trash, as enemies will put attacks under your feet and you can't see them. The camera turn-rate is stupidly slow, and there's no way to change it.
      And the end-game balance with respect to resource costs and experience required is completely out of whack. The fact that I need to get hundreds upon hundreds of ore over 3 in-game days, a crap ton of coal in the desert, make tons of cement, tons of carbon fiber, etc. for just 30-ish purple spheres that I can use in about 10-minutes of actual gameplay is messed up. For balls being this time-consuming and this expensive to make, I'm still only getting 4% or 10% catch odds and can easily go through 20-30 of them in just 1 end-game boss fight.
      The idea that this game is polished is just a false claim. I'm not trying to dismiss the devs at all. Their accomplishment is great. But the game is not polished. Legends Arceus is a very polished game by comparison, and the budget and team size shows.
      Pokemon does a lot of things better too. I have my more agency as a trainer in Pokemon. If there's a rocket launcher enemy with 3 other less dangerous enemies, I can't tell my Pal to attack the rocket launcher - the AI's targets are completely random. This is a big problem. It means using Pals like Lyleen or Anubis can be problematic.
      Also, the budget for Palworld was not 10,000, it was nearly 7 million.
      I'm all for discussing this, but let's be honest about numbers and get our facts straight first.
