    The only drawbacks is the raising of your breeding animals. I invested in several $700-$1500 animals, with no intention to make that money back. I love the animals, and will eventually most likely breed them. I think breeding ball pythons can be extremely rewarding, and bring money, but if you don't love the animals and the hobby, your going to burn out and regret it. Best of luck with your breeding season by the way Chris.

    Hey Chris thank you so much for the videos! Literally every question I have, you have a video for. So helpful and I’m so appreciative. You have inspired another to start breeding!
    So I plan on starting with one male and around 8-10 females.
    My question is should my one male be enough for that number of females, or what your suggestion would be for amount of females for one breeder male. I’ve also read that having another male around helps your breeder male. So I was thinking maybe a normal to save money? Any insight or information would be appreciated!

    Hey getting that much store credit for your snakes at pet shops is really common in Colorado because most places i have been and this has been in a couple different states say if u have a 4 or 500 dollar snake they will only give u like maybe 50 to a hundred dollars store credit and then usually half to be a regular customer now i was friends with someone who owned a pet shop that would take of me in that way but thats the only way or unless u are a well known breeder like yourself but for the average joe its extremely hard if at all to get even close if at all store credit of the value of your snake. because me and my daughter are starting a little ball python investment and would like for it to at least pay for itself if not thats ok to as long as we can beat the odds and produce something we want to keep permanently well awesome vid brother

    This is such a good video. Thanks for your honesty. I am trying to make a better life for my son and have been thinking of getting into this, but was thinking of getting older snakes that have already been bred or are ready - but I'm so scared the older ones will bite. Also, I am wondering if I put it in a terrarium (live plant habitat) if I can breed it in there? I've heard snakes are healthier with live plants (I don't have a green thumb)

    what I did is I bought ball pythons that all have at least 2 co-dominant genes and one recessive gene and so for example I recently bought 2 females that are orange dream, yellow belly, and are het piebald. and then I bought a male that is orange dream, yellow belly, and visual piebald and I still need to raise them up but the reason I recommend going the 2 co-dominant gene 1 recessive gene route. Is because you will only get high end morphs this way and you won't get hardly any normals and the normals you do get will still be het for piebald or any other recessive gene for example the ball pythons I bought will produce all these morph combinations..

    Breeding is something that I have wanted to try for decades and could finally be happening. With that said based on my calculations of CoGs and a selling point of 300/ea 60 neonates a year that yields 1500 a month if you breed your own rats. Profit drops down to 1250 a month if you buy from rodent pro. If you go rodent pro route you need to sell all 60 neonates at a minimum of 450$ea. Large scale breeders must have many Revenue streams as this doesn’t make dollars and cents.

      Proven snakes can be a good investment buuut make sure to get them from someone reputable people. Ask if they are problematic in any way. How old they are, how many clutches have they had and did they have issues while she was gravid. Are her genetics guaranteed Are they picky feeders...mousers, asf rats?
      You just need to be careful and ask the right questions. Also, a lot of breeders will sell proven females right after she is starting to fattened up after her last clutch and you GENERALLY want to wait for the next breeding season to breed her (although many breeders will breed females back to back).

    I am a bit confused. Since keeping and breeding ball pythons seems to be on the lower end of animal husbandry work requirements, why don't all collectors breed them themselves? I would think the demand for ball pythons would vastly decrease as more get acquired due to this. How does demand maintain itself after several years of investment? I'd have thought it would become saturated by now.

    • @maxcarren112
      @maxcarren112 Před 3 lety +1

      Most of the people buying high end morphs are collectors. So the demand is relatively constant. It takes 3 years at least to raise a generation, that's a lot of time and work so it's not free money. When I was 12 an Albino BP hatchling was over 2,000, now they're 300. So the demand did go down as more people bred them. But that takes a long time, and now there are many more morphs that fetch an even higher price.

    • @TheYgds
      @TheYgds Před 3 lety

      @@maxcarren112 Thanks Max. Since I wrote that I've done far more research and it appears that phenotypic variation as well as a new basic morph coming into the population every year or so means that the market seems to refresh itself regularly. Also, it seems that things like paradox and chimerism fetch a hefty price and those are unlikely to saturate the market due to their non-genetic nature. It is really impressive just how vast and diverse ball python morphs are.

      Angela Conley it would work, you just have to maintain a heated room for them. There’s actually a LOT of people that want balls in Alaska but they can’t get them because it’s too cold to ship them that far north. If there was someone breeding in Alaska that they could go to to get them that person would make a killing.

  • @mastercommanderdragonsir679

    Man ball pythons are expensive where you live, where I live in Canada a normal ball python goes for like 30-50$ at most even pastels are only like 100$, seems to be a pet for warmer climates. You can make a killing breeding live stock here though.

    I’m looking to getting into breeding, and am not sure about pricing according to morph quality. Do you think morph market is over priced, and how do you know if you are getting a good deal?

    • @ChrisHardwickanimaladventures
      @ChrisHardwickanimaladventures  Před 4 lety +1

      Good question! Some newbies will almost give their snakes away and price them really low. Once you are in it for awhile you realize they will sell at 'normal' prices, and depending on the time of year and availability you can get an even higher price. Doesn't really matter if you are breeding, you'll always make money in the end. I usually buy what looks the best to me LOL.
