I agree with keeping Pieds and Clowns as staples. The fact is, if you've got even one, good example of each at your display, you're _going_ to catch the eye of the "newbies." Then, even if they can't afford to take the plunge on a visual, you can probably interest them in a nice 1-2 co-dom + het snake, with the idea that they can make their own visual, later. Heck, I'd be willing to bet that's how a lot of people ended up in this hobby in the first place.
I'm so excited to breed my first clutch (probably just a one time thing). I have a 4 year old (butter+pastel,) beautiful snake, and I recently got my second snake a male purple passion, (phantom+mojave.) So I'm excited to make the B.E.L.s. it should be like 4/8 will be blue-eye leucistic. But he's still a baby, so it'll be in a couple years away. I've increased her feeding, and she seems to already be thickening up more.
Bamboo is definitely one of my top 5 and I have a Lesser Bamboo boy I got last year along with his lady OD Spider YB , sometimes the more affordable snakes make more money rather than sitting on a 10k snake forever.... just saying from a poor mans point of view lol
It's funny to look back at this video when you weren't so sure about bamboo knowing how successful you've been recently with that gene. Great advice at the end of the video, new breeders think they need to play catch up and sometimes bite off more than they can chew, take your time and everything will come together as long as you work hard and keep your passion.
After watching bunch of your vids , all the veteran ball python collector and breeders i’ve met surprised about my knowledge about the whole process form A to Z about ball python ... Thanks to u sir , hands down the best ball python channel so far . Wish u nothing but the best Mr.Hardwick 😉😋 i’m not just yo subscriber, i’m officially your fan nơ 😋
Hi Chris, found your channel recently and binge watched all weekend...lol. I’m not close enough to make it to one of your Colorado shows but I’ve been talking to a local breeder about a ball morph I’m not familiar with. Wondering if you could give me your thoughts. The snake is listed as a Pastel Highway Fluff....gravel/pastel/YB/fluff. the Fluff appears to be something similar to the gene for the Black Head morph but I’m not sure how it’s coming through in this combo. Currently listed on MM. I’m looking for something interesting to breed with my Pastel Pied....it will be my first attempt!
Chris Hardwick So I ended up getting that male Pastel Highway along with an Enchi Highway female subadult and gravel female hatchling.....so that will be the start to my gravel project. As someone new to breeding I’m working on Pieds, Clowns and now Gravel which is more than enough to keep me busy....purely as hobby. Just out of curiosity have you ever considered being something like a consultant for people transitioning from hobbyist to more serious breeder. I’d sure be happy to share some proceeds from sales with someone who could help prevent me wasting time/money during the “learning” phase. Or maybe set up an exclusive arrangement to house/sell your snakes at shows in another area since you’re focused on local there???? Just some thoughts I’ve had.
@@CapeFearConstrictors910 Sorry to ask but where do you buy your hatchlings? I am looking to buy a ball python that is about 4 months or younger(would that be considered a hatchling?)
Have you done an updated video on this topic? Would be a great video of your tips and lessons learned for us newbies first year! We hope to breed this year 2022 :)
If you get a urban camo gene male breed it to a female yellow belly will she have 2-3 visual urban camo with a couple visual yellow belly’s ? Or is it more chances if these genders would be the opposite ? Or would they all just be het 50% urban camo with 50 % yellow belly ?
Chris harwick your very welcome you help me relieve my stress when i come into a problem with my ball pythons. And ur soooooo entertaining id love to buy one of your snakes that yu produce
I started a not book of what I have first. Then I started pairing them and lookn up what I could get from each female to every male I have to see what I can get and make my decisions on whqt I want to breed to what or what I want to get next.
Iv paired several snakes seen viual lock done thi for 6 weeks but had no signs of ovulation o any of the 5 femals an thre 2 different males any thoughts. Thanks
I love the genetic calculator. I used to do the same thing and spend hours and hours on there. The only frustrating thing is when you want to see what combos look like and they don't have any pictures of the ones in your outcomes. Could you do a video about all your Clowns and your plans for them?
I only have two clowns right now, a regular Clown and a Lesser Clown. My plan is to grow them out another year or two and get a male with more genes to add to the mix, I'm thinking eventually a Spotnose Clown or Banana Clown, both are my favorites.
All the other recessive genes have stabilized I don't see any reason for clown to not do the same the reason it's taking so long is because of how expensive it is right now. Once more breeders take interest in clown it will go down
Hi! I don't have any Bamboos listed at the moment, I should have some in a few weeks that are ready to go. Here's a link to my store: www.morphmarket.com/us/c/reptiles?store=cchardwick
I have a question? is there a way to identify my pythons specifically. I have a female which i assume is a basic ball. I recently picked up a new male. I was told that he is a desert ghost. I feel like he is either a normal or a chocolate.....could he still be a desert with the het trait? he just seems way to dark to be a desert ghost.
Did I read your label wrong for your desert ghost pair? It looked like the female you’d chosen is homozygous desert ghost, and not het. Homozygous females of this gene are not able to be successfully bred.
Whats your thoughts on making bumblebees? I have a gorgeous huge female spider i was gonna get a male pastel and let them breed... Thats how you make bumblebees right?? Just wondering been gettin hated on for some reason about it ( cause of the spider) cant really get a clear answer thanks

I actually do make a living off of this but believe it or not I don't make most of my money from the snakes, I have multiple income streams. I actually make the most money from CZcams ads. Probably the second most money from selling hatchlings. I also make money from Patreon, people who support me financially here on CZcams. I'm also doing pretty good with Amazon Affiliates, I get a commission from amazon sales if you click on a product link in my video description. I also started selling merchandise through Teespring, you can see it under my videos now, making some pretty good money from that selling t-shirts, coffee mugs, phone cases, stickers, etc... Add it all up and I'm doing pretty good, almost enough to pay the bills, but I keep making more and more week after week. However, I just quit my day job a couple weeks ago so I took an $80,000 pay cut OUCH. I should be able to make that up in the next year or so, but now I have a lot more fee time and I'm living the dream!

Chris, you should do an updated video on this topic. I'm sure you have learned a lot since this was made. We'd love to hear from you :)
I don't think your local market is as big a determining factor in what you breed anymore due to the Internet and sites like morph market. Cool video.

VPI Axanthic Enchi Pied male to a Enchi female. I think it will be a good match.

What can i mix with a normal male ?
What brand racks do you use?

Actually a Desert Ghost is pretty dark, the morphs I have also have Pastel in the mix and that makes them really pop.
Random question... for anyone who can wander lol, what is that brown stuff in the corner of your bins??
It's a 'moss ball', basically I put sphagnum moss in netting and used it for humidity. Works great because it doesn't mold like a sponge would.
What would you get if u paired a blue eye leucistic with a pastel ball python?
You would get a Pastel Lesser, or Pastel Mojave or Pastel Bamboo, depending on what was in the BEL
Wow thank you so much ive been wanting to breed my pastel and a leucistic is what i want to do so im pretty excited to see the babies!!!
Chris Hardwick what would you get if you mix a Champagne pastel female with purple passion super pastel poss yellowbelly male???
I am going to breed a female champagne pastel with a purple passion super pastel poss yellow belly
Did I read your label wrong for your desert ghost pair? It looked like the female you’d chosen is homozygous desert ghost, and not het. Homozygous females of this gene are not able to be successfully bred.
Actually that's the Desert gene that has a problem with the females. This is the Desert Ghost gene which is totally different.
Hey Chris. I love the vids. Good info. I wish I was local. Would you be interested in shipping to AZ?
I'll cover that in an upcoming video!
Chris Hardwick thanks. Thanks for the great content. It’s been very insightful for my and my family as we are new to BP’s
I’d love to get a Bamboo. Nobody near me breeds them.

Some genes you want to avoid breeding together like a Spider x Spider.
Who made your rack system? Can you send me the link to the company?
Sure, they are all from ARS Caging.
