    ℹ️About the episode:
Mackinac Island has secured a spot on our infamous "Top 5" best destinations since the start of KYD. As Trish says in the video, "there's no place quite like Mackinac Island."
This video is a longer format so we can include the "Mackinac Must Haves" and share some of the hidden gems off the beaten path.
If you're not looking for the typical touristy visit, here are some things you can do off the beaten path:
    1. Woods Restaurant: Enjoy a bowl and drink at the pub.
    2. Arch Rock: Natural limestone formation overlooking Lake Huron
    3. The Mission Point lawn: Relax on the adirondack chairs and enjoy the view
    4. Fort Holmes: Ride bikes to Fort Holmes to get a 180-degree view of the island
    5. Enjoy fried pickles and milkshakes at Cannonball Inn & Catering near Brittish Landing
    6. If you're looking for a nice dinner out for two, check out the Island House, but be sure to make reservations. *Not an ad

Oh yes thank you for reminding me I was going to say thank you for sharing his story and if he gets on here at all thank you for raising awareness to this epidemic. My cousin, my mom's nephew was a veteran of the Iraq war and he survived to make it back to the states but lost his life to suicide 2 years ago.

Wasn't expecting that, got me all bleary eyed, listening to Dan talking about his project. I'm a veteran that has had treatment for PTSD. Lost numerous friends and colleagues through enemy action but sadly also lost too many others through depression and suicide. I think the level of awareness generally is increasing and the hope is that reducing the barriers that make it an uncomfortable subject allows those suffering to more freely find someone to talk to, for them to be heard, and get the help they need.
Dan, well done for the work you are doing and I wish you the greatest success, and continued peace in your life too.

We’ve been married for 43 years - I guess it takes a few years to have that communication without words! Loved hearing about the guy - Ride with Dan USA. Moved out of state when I was 18 and many, many years later I am wanting to move back to MI one day.. I really miss it. Having a full circle moment; for the last 12+ years, we have camped in Mackinac @ Mill Creek Campground. Most of those years, we stayed in a cabin. Its hard to be around all of of those rigs for so long without jumping in and buying one for yourself. It was in the search for our first travel trailer that I stumbled onto your channel. Ultimately, you have cost me around $70k so far, but the memories with our girls are priceless and I’m madly in love with my F250, so I’m not even mad about it! My wife and I went to the island way back when we were on Annual Training with the Ohio National Guard. It was an amazing experience going through the Hotel after watching the movie about 6 times first, but we didn't get to see too much because of our limited time for the weekend. However, after watching this video we want to go back and actually see the island from a much different perspective like you all did with your friends. We've been wanting to get an RV for more than 15 years and are finally taking the plunge and getting ready to do this full time for at least a year (or longer) starting next April. We went to Elkhart, IN earlier this week and put a deposit on a 42 foot rig built by LUXE and, because of your videos and with additional input from BTBRV we purchased a 2019 Ford F-450 Limited yesterday. We are looking forward to experiencing a new lifestyle and to get the opportunity to visit sites we've only heard about, or had very limited time to explore. Have a great and safe journey on your travels to your next destinations. BTW: we also have relatives who live in New Haven, MI and that's one of our stops next year. Any recommendations on traveling up that way would be appreciated.

My husband and I hiked the perimeter of Mackinac Island September 2017 with our golden/collie mixed breed, fortified with sandwiches from that great grocery store in town. Wonderful deli. Then, we took a staircase up to the street behind the Grand Hotel, and hiked up to the hotel from that same road you did from the airport. Such beautiful mansions! After an ice cream cone, we took one of those tourist tours and found it to be really fun--they even allowed the dog! We agree about the Star Fleet--great service with our dog! Then we headed up to a week in a cottage in Grand Marais. We recommend the sunset cruise to see the Pictured Rocks from Lake Superior (out of Munising) as well as the 11 mile loop trail that takes you along the shoreline--absolutely gorgeous with Caribbean blue water! We also enjoyed the shipwreck museum (we went to HS with two of the Edmund Fitzgerald crewmen) in Whitefish Bay and the hike at Taquanemon (sp) Falls. We are about to take delivery of our first RV and will retire at the end of 2019, so we look forward to returning someday. Love your tips!

WE TRAVELED as far North as Wawa Canada. We spent 5 weeks in Canada traveling & camping. THEN on the way back home we stop by Mackinac island. We took our own bikes on the ferry to the island. We stayed in a haunted bed-&-breakfast for 3 nights. It was so much fun. 🚲🌲⛴We love Mackinac Island too. Our family took all of our bikes over on the ferry and used them as transportation while staying over a long weekend. We did the extended horse carriage tour for fun. There are 2 forts. One on the Mackinac Island, Fort Mackinac and one in Mackinaw City, Colonial Michilimackinac for anyone else who is visiting. They are both excellent. We stayed at the same place you did and it works great for families. Highly recommend everyone do a 2-3 day stay on the island. It wasn’t something we chose to do, but many people enjoy the shops in Mackinaw City. It was fun to watch your visit and definitely makes me want to return with the family. Very nice video depicting how to see Mackinaw Island! We stayed at the Chippewa Hotel! Absolutely loved the island! We DID the “touristy” carriage tour, our first day. Day 2,3,&4, we returned to those attractions that we wanted to see again. Bike rental is a must do, even at our retired age. 🙂 Waking up early is a must do. Loved watch all the island employees riding their bikes to work, and watch the ferries unload island supplies. Including horses, and hay. The city also hoses down the city streets every night. We love Michigan in the fall. Mackinaw Island is, for sure, one of our top must see destinations! Thanks again for sharing.

Super fun episode...sent the link to friends planning a getaway. Gorgeous location!
Meeting Lt. Dan was also great serendipity, too! What a wonderful cause!!
And I almost forgot to mention that the music selection was awesome! Cody Fry-A Little More was wonderful, but his whole album Flying is terrific!

As usual, a great video. Entertaining, fun, well cut and produced and educational. For me as a European, it is fantastic fun to follow along on the journey and have all these little pieces of facts presented to me.
Hope there will come a time when you can come over and make a trip through Europe. It would be really exciting to see it through your eyes!

I have no idea if you guys read the comments on a 2 year old video, but… I’ve been binge watching and I just had to chime in in solidarity with Trish and moving furniture! I despise it! I’ve been doing crossfit for many years so my husband assumes I can just whip furniture around and I CAN’T!!! It’s comical watching us trying to get a couch up a staircase. 🤦🏼‍♀️Thankfully our 2 sons are taller and bigger than me so THEY get to be the official furniture movers in this house! You guys are great and I’ve been finding joy in getting to know you via KYD. At least it feels like I know you. 😉

So happy to find your channel and wonderful family. My hubby and I sailed to the island many summers and it's been years since I returned. Once a Michigander, always a Michigander and I've been homesick for the 19 years since moving to FL. My friends from other states call it "oh holy Michigan" from all my stories. Movie "Somewhere in Time" never gets old, I watch it yearly. Lots of folks don't know about the golf course, 1st one in MI! Thanks again.

.I appreciate your decision to skip the tours! We've lived in Michigan all our lives and do the Island every other year and we always take our own tour of the Island. BUT you really need to come back and go through the Fort at your own pace. Trish being the history buff she seems to be, would love it! And for that matter, the Fort in Mackinaw City is worth it as well! I hope you saw Tahquamenon Falls both the Upper and Lower falls! The U.P. is like entering another whole country! I can't wait to see your experiences there. Love your videos!

I follow some channels with great videography and production, some with inspirational content, some that allow us an honest peak at their families and personal lives, and others that provide a realistic narrative of RV life. Only yours manages to bring all of these and more together in one place, and this video may very well be my favorite KYD offering yet. I believe that every day we are given is a gift, and the way we express our gratitude is to live it to its fullest. You guys do exactly that. Thank you for this video and your inspiration.

I spent my childhood summers at a cabin in Copper Harbor Michigan. We spent time at the fort and learning about the Edmond Fitzgerald. If you make it there try the pasty its amazing!!! Oh and we would bring blueberry pancakes to "the dump" and feed the bears by cracking the windows. This was many moons ago, but left a life-long impression! Happy travels!

Beautiful place and love seeing the friendships. However....your focus on Dan and his OPPAT non profit and those precious moments showing him he was seen, just...I hope even just half go to his page and donate and pay attention to his mission with suicide prevention with our armed forces.

I hated for this video to end! This is definitely on my bucket list. I'm a widow though and so I don't want to go alone. The gentleman who lives part time on the island was fascinating and I could've listened to more of his history and experience and the veteran who was working to stop suicides was very inspiring. The candy, the ice cream and the views from the bikes were wonderful. It's a shame they didn't allow drones because it would've been so fun to see the island that way too. Thanks for going and sharing!!
