    ℹ️About the episode:
"Oh, you missed it!" This is a phrase we've been accustom to hearing. Most RVers get this a lot because it's impossible to see everything and we all have different interests. During our visit to Michigan in Season 1, we missed Mackinac Island and the Upper Peninsula. But the season, we came back to experience both. This time, we missed Traverse City and Tahquamenon Falls, but I'm sure we'll be back to Michigan again and we saved some for later.
As we mentioned in the video, we're enjoying spending quality time in fewer places than trying to see everything and feeling rushed and wishing we had more time.

The discussion about pasties cracked me up. And the comment about bug spray being kept in the poison section. We once camped in a place where the mosquitos were a visible wall so we used a product with something like 95% deet. The bugs were so voracious we had to spray our faces and it made our lips numb. I don't even want to think about what kind of cancer we gave ourselves that week.

A couple of things...Mark - you were right on the pronunciation of pasties. They are British in origin. Also, when you are on wooded hikes, dab some mint and lavender oils behind your ears and on your wrists. They are great natural insect repellants.

I love your videos about Michigan but also hate them at the same time. I am an economic refugee that was forced to relocate in 2006 to NC and miss Michigan sooo much that seeing your journey through the greatest state in our country makes me super home sick. BEST sunsets in the country! Keep it coming, thanks so much for allowing us tag along on your journey.

I always enjoy the videos. We have considered going on the road for a year, so we learn a lot from how you do things. BUT..... the best part of your videos for me is CALEB. He cracks me up. I have had a teenage son that found traveling with us quite laborious. Caleb has a pretty good attitude but has quite the sense of humor and it makes the videos real. I say... have him shoot one episode from his point of view for the whole thing. That would be viral for sure.

I am a life-long resident of the U.P. and having grown up in the Munising area,, it was fun to see your reactions to Pictured Rocks. When I was a kid there (I'm 67 now) as a resident of Alger County, you could take the Pictured Rocks cruise free of which I did take advantage . Also growing up there we used to climb Miner's Castle and the people snapping pix of us and waving at us was something I will always remember. We were indestructible youth!

    I ❤ Charlie. He's such a great dog.
I just try to make my trips enjoyable. Stop and enjoy. Find something. I will never see everything, but I am going to enjoy what I see. Meanwhile, I'll follow a bunch of other travelers and see more things, and get ideas for future trips.
My latest "I'll never do it, but I love the videos" are the narrow boat people in England. Imagine RVing at 3 miles an hour down a canal. It's lovely. Most canals are going through countryside. And they all want to share their adventures.

Best pasties in the U.P are the ones sold near Munising Mi. There is a small town west of Munising called Autrain and the gas station there has the best pasties ever. Northern Michigan is beautiful but the U.P is absolutely magical.

Great video as always, better than TV. I want to say one thing though and you're not guilty but it's something that can happen in a second. Whenever you throw something in the water for the dog to retrieve keep it close and be prepared to go in and save him. My dog loves going after things and recently almost drowned just from being tired. I was able to get to him just as he went under and he's fine. I never even thought of that happening until it did. Be safe out there and thank you for taking the time to share.

My husband and I took a road trip to the UP a couple of years ago. We had no plan, no idea where we would sleep or where we would eat. It was the best vacation of our lives! We stuck to local food and local motels. Our first stop was Sault Ste. Marie and we rode the coast west ending in Marquette and headed back home to Ohio. 5 days. My favorite stop was Munising, Sault Ste Marie was a nice town also. We had so many beautiful views from a number of light houses along the coast. We hiked to see waterfalls and totally enjoyed ourselves with no plan.

My favourite type of fungi is the Mycorrhizal network which, if I'm remembering correctly, uses mycelium strands to connect trees, allowing trees to communicate with each other and pass nutrients. I never thought I'd be interested in fungi and trees. Then I read 'The Hidden Life of Trees' by Peter Wohlleben. Hands down a fantastic read and gives you a new appreciation for nature.

Love watching your videos and love the music. I was born and raised in the South West of England where pasties originated as a flat(ish) semi circular pie, that farm workers could put into their back pockets for their lunch. We were in the UP earlier this summer and sampled a Michigan Pastie....pretty good!!! We also visited Kitch-iti kipi, the group that went out before us included some Native Americans for whom the location is sacred and were granted permission to drum and chant while on the raft. Even from the shore it was quite an experience.

I had never heard so much wind while trying to sleep in our RV. We stayed at Bay Furnace State Park in Munising across the street from where you stayed and traveled to the east Lake Michigan shoreline. Pictured Rocks was like heaven on earth! WOW... We toured the UP in the spring back in 2012 and more often than not found ticks on us after most hikes, so check occasionally. Also, kicking of a nutricional lifestyle change can be accented and accelerated by a traditional fast. When I became a vegan 50 years ago, I fasted for 10 days, drinking nothing but distilled water. You wouldn't believe what was eliminated and what it felt like after. I ate salads and veggies and fruit juices for the next 2 years, all raw foods, nuts and grains. Fifteen years later I added fish to my diet but no meat for 50 years now :-)

Beautiful Sunsets! And another great video! Trish....all you have to do is open the passenger side door and call Charlie in...with or without a treat he will just jump right in... My girlfriends 13 year old Golden who has cancer walks with us for miles and I just open the passenger door and call him...he still jumps right up...even after 6 miles of mountainous terrain in Maine ;)

You had me at Pasties! My grandfather was born in Cornwall, England and emigrated to the U.S. in the 1920's. I grew up eating Cornish Pasties! My favorite food ever! Enjoying your trip to Macinac Island and the U.P. Safe travels!

Apparently, the pasty was created for the miners in the UK to eat underground. Essentially, a savoury hand pie. They needed something packed with calories because of their physical jobs in the coal mines and easily eaten. Of course, they call them pass-tee and call geysers, geezers??? Learned this from watching "the great model railroad challenge".
I noticed someone else has gone to a once a week video (understanding that working fulltime fr the road has its restrictions) and wondered if you had started a trend. Then I found out they just moved most of there content to Patreon grumble grumble.
Looking forward to more your experiences from the UP. Great content as per usual.

Suggest getting and using the orange plastic square pads between the ground and square stabilization pads. If it rains or there is damp ground there is not enough area to prevent your system from sinking and becoming stuck. I have gray hair, eyebrows and ear fuzz.

The first time we did the raft over the springs, it was a stick with a hole in it that was twisted to catch on the cable and you pulled it to move the raft. That was back in the 70s.

Pasty education needed I think. Pasty rhymes with nasty. Originally they are from Cornwall in the UK. The Cornish miners wives would make a rich meat & vegetable filling inside a pastry case that they could take and eat for lunch. Often when meat was scarce it might be just potato, swedes, onion etc. The rope type edge is a good seal, and works as a disposable handle for dirty and possibly poison tainted hands.
