    Fun and informative video as always! Really happy with Sundered Fate. Love the whole feel of it. We got lucky that our local GW store threw in some activation markers which were a really great addition, and would be lacking in the box set. The board is excellent quality, the modular terrain setup is fantastic, especially the rope bridges (although the tree trunks were surprisingly awkward to assemble), and the two warbands are aesthetically and thematically great and gameplay-wise quite good after just a bit of converting and being creative with the list building, especially with the addition of a couple of allies to round out what's lacking in each.
    We converted the melee Defacers to be Obelisk Bearers by adding obelisk-ish stones to their backs and we converted a spare Eldar model to be another Priestess using the spare mask, and that drastically helps the Jade Obelisk abilities to be accessible and powerful in-game. Used a skull that comes in the terrain set to convert a skink to be another Huanchi's claw and used a skink club from the sprue combined with a blowpipe to make another Hornblower.

      Haha, yes.. the trees can be a bit tricky. I found it easier the second time around :).
      Great idea for converting models, and those extra obelisk bearers and priestesses sound like a great idea. I bet it also looks pretty cool as a warband :) - and I'm hearing a lot of folk eagerly adorning their skinks to make more Huanchi's claws.
      Great stuff - and thanks for sharing :), plus we've now had full sight of the next box! czcams.com/video/dehPPhyEYxs/video.html

      Most welcome! I'm glad it was of some help :). Can confirm both the Heart of Ghur and Bloodhunt boards are the same (albeit with slightly different details across the brown, so you can make one massive play board if you choose to).
      Hoping to do something like this for Nightmare Quest when it arrives - although I suspect you already have enough board info for now :).

    Loved that intro, and I really appreciated the lore recap! I played Warhammer Fantasy back in 90's, and gave AoS and Warcry a go last year but didn't have time. A big obstacle was the lore I had to re-learn. During the intro, I had no idea if you were joking about the Seraphon Void Ship, but watching the rest of your video it sounds wild! But again reminds me how out of touch I am haha! The only thing that puts me off with the 2nd edition, is that I prefer city and temple terrain. Weird quirk, but it's mine! Love your channel, many thanks!

    • @HobbyJackal
      @HobbyJackal  Před rokem +1

      Hello hello! Those voidships are indeed real, although I think this is the first time they've played a big part in the lore that I've been aware of... But I missed some of the big tomes and haven't picked up a Seraphon book, so may be missing plenty of fun stuff :).
      On a really weird note... I think they kind of existed in Warhammer Fantasy(!!). Pretty sure the Old Ones that preceded the lizardmen had mention of star ships or some such when zipping about the place and creating the chaos gate/portal which would accidentally create the rift for the chaos gods to pile through. ...I may be mistaken, however... I'm sure someone will correct me!
      My approach to AoS lore is just to know a few bits on the races I'm interested in, if you ask me what any of the Aelves are up to (or have been up to) I haven't the foggiest ;)
      Finally, yeah, favourite set so far is the first starter set. Just love the aesthetic :).

      @@HobbyJackal I played back in the 4th edition, and I believe the Lizardmen were introduced properly in 5th. Which is when I started going to college and, well, 20 years later here I am trying to figure things out again haha! Thank you for the detailed reply, thoroughly enjoying your channel and sense of humour. I am sure the Elves are doing just fine, though I can imagine you will have a riot coming up with ideas for their intro likewise. 🤣 Kind of tempted by Seraphon now!

      @@traceofwind Good times! Yeah, I had a sizeable break too - although I think I still have some of those 5th ed plastic saurus somewhere... Which I kinda still like the design slightly more than the current ones (although - loads of rumour images abound - so we're getting a range refresh soon!).
      One thing I have picked up on current Seraphon lore is that there are two split types, one called Convalesced and one... Something else (I can't Google it mid-type or my phone will shout at me). One being very much connected to the ethereal, magical, star-ship riding sort... And another that's much more grounded, taking physical form, and a bit more primal, living in forests in the "mortal realms" (world of age of Sigmar). ...the latter ones appeal to me more, as, given the flexibility of AoS, they can be imagined to still be the same lizardmen of yore for all intents and purposes! :)
      Apols for another ramble and welcome back into Warhammer! :D

    I confess that I really think about getting this one as my first (already tried games with minis what I had and improvised terrain)
    I would buy Heart of Ghur, but I don't like the models (except for Rotmire) and terrain

    • @HobbyJackal
      @HobbyJackal  Před rokem +1

      Given we've now had a sneak peak of what's (probably) in Nightmare Quest, both warbands in Sundered Fate are in my top three! In fact, third place would probably be between Rotmire and the new Flesh-eaters (pending a better look at them :)).
      Ghur has the advantage of a bit more scenery and the core book, but Sundered is a great value box if you like the stuff. Plus, you can always pick up extra bits on eBay. I did that to nab the warband tome and scenery for Bloodhunt :).
      Alsooo... Even more stuff on the horizon including what looks like a neat little starter set, so I'm very hopeful for plenty of options to get started with the game. It's great fun, and lemme know how you get on/if ya have any questions! :)

    You have mentioned that bridges are missing at the dedicated terrain cards, I have also found one thing: Chaos Legionnaires abilities probably were also forgotten to be updated as the wording is more like in Warcry 1.0 than in Warcry 2.0.
    I do think personally that the easiest way to fix it is slight change:
    Shield Ram - as in Chaos faction.
    Brutal Strike as Decapitation Strike,
    Mutandor ability change from Triple to Double.

    • @HobbyJackal
      @HobbyJackal  Před rokem +1

      I haven't picked them or the Centaurian up, but they do look retro-cool :)

    • @CGOLAN
      @CGOLAN Před rokem +1

      @@HobbyJackal Yeah, I do think that release for those models was impacted either by global pandemic scarring or by the problems within the GW staff changes.
      Given the fact of a new kit is designed to be build as Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount or same with the design similar to the Chaos Leginnaires I am start thinking that this design for both kits (lord and Warcry warband) might relate to the Old World which is said to be placed in some hundreds years before the End Times. So a little bit of more savage different designs, and there are some already for Chaos in Warcry.
      Chaos Legionnaires as Chaos Undivided for Old World looks okay for me.
      I own mentioned sprues - if you do not like Mutandor head there is an alternative one at the sprues ;)

    • @HobbyJackal
      @HobbyJackal  Před rokem +1

      @@CGOLAN Oh, cool! Always a big fan of alternate heads :).
      I hadn't even thought of them in terms of The Old World. It is a curious one, isn't it, as they're not only revamped but totally fit the aesthetic (even down to leaning more heavily into some of the older artwork, and linking in with a different time period as you say). It would be very surprising to not see some of this there, it'd be like them redesigning the Gloomspite range for night goblins. No reason at all :)

    • @CGOLAN
      @CGOLAN Před rokem +1

      @@HobbyJackal Leader head part with horns - two variants.
      Mutandor - two heads (both are crap)
      GW fighters - 6 heads total (two per model)
      Shield fighters - 6 heads total (two per model)
      Centaurion - no any variants
      I have not thought about them in such a way in the past, but after the release of the Lord on Daemonic Mount it looks like it might be the case. Simillar things happened to the Undead, Tomb Kings range was not updated, but the Morghasts were printed, then some heroes with weird mounts, and a big Nagash, then The End Times (a GW failure with Warhammer Fantasy IP) and AOS happened with Ossiarch Bonereapers.
      What I like to say is there must be a wide range of 3D models prepared long time before any release, and after some time those will be used with its purpose or modified and used for something else.
      Personally I do not mind to purchase a few new regiments of the new chaos infantry with the fresh aesthetic like Chaos Legionnaires, with an army with a unit of Fomoroids slaves, some Ogroids or Centaurions support with some other fancy monsters.

    Looking to jump into Warcry as a new player. Out of 3 box sets which as of now are all priced about the same I'm trying to decide between heart of ghur and bloodhunt. Like both the warbands but one is limited and other terrain tactic states can be cross over to AOS. Which I've started building AoS Dominion box with son but that be great to have alternative plays with armies and shorter sessions sometimes. Which would you go with?

    • @HobbyJackal
      @HobbyJackal  Před rokem +2

      Hello! Warcry sounds like a great option for you and your son - and there are free stats available for a lot of the dominion contents which is super handy!
      If it was me and I was getting into Warcry I'd choose Heart of Ghur over Bloodhunt every time. Especially if they're rocking in at a similar price. Miniatures aside, it contains the Core Book (loads of extra narrative content in addition to the rules that are freely available) and all the tokens, dice & measures to get you playing out of the box. The expansions (Sundered Fate, Bloodhunt and - presumably - Nightmare Quest) don't include any of this content, and the tokens aren't available to purchase separately as of yet.
      Additionally, Heart of Ghur has a bit more scenery, with 4x Gnarloak size pieces and 2x copies of the scatter terrain sprue which has been included in each box so far, giving you a great looking table and handily 4 rope bridges.
      The benefit to Bloodhunt is that you do get some more traditional line-of-sight blocking terrain, and this is what I presume you mention for use in AoS (potentially as a defensible feature), but all the terrain can technically be used across AoS as well and work nicely with your Dominion contents.
      I hope that's some help! If I've missed the point of the question (particularly the AoS terrain bit) please do shout at me :).
      PS - In case you haven't seen the free stats for the dominion contents (excluding some of the bigger characters) they can be found at:

    • @HobbyJackal
      @HobbyJackal  Před rokem +1

      Ooh, tricky question. Both boxes are good.
      Red Harvest offers you less new stuff than Heart of Ghur. You'll get another copy of the first edition rulebook (although, unlike the version in Catacombs, this was updated to include errata changes), and a copy of the scatter terrain sprue (but, y'know, it's still a useful bit of kit for modelling/basing).
      Heart of ghur gives you the second edition rulebook, but, rules and stats are still free online, so if you're happy printing those or using PDFs, it's the narrative content that's of value to you here, with a completely revamped system which incorporate the Trial of Chamion elements from Tome of Champions and more. Plus you get your reaction tokens etc (but you can use first edition 'wait tokens' instead.
      I really like the new narrative side of things, so if it was me, I'd go Heart of Ghur. However, the scenery in Red Harvest is solid, looks imposing and merges well with the first core box in terms of aesthetics (plus fun rules for the scenery are introduced!). If in doubt, you're paying for a whole load of plastic, so, which are you more likely to paint up? :)
      ...sorry that's probably no help at all!! They are both good. I suppose the other thing to bear in mind is, there's nothing stopping you picking up red harvest and then the Warcry 2.0 book down the line if you want it (or even some bits from HoG released separately). Ramble over! :)
