Just as if you were to park at a gas pump, the vehicle should be towed immediately
I drive ICE and would never do this, itâs like sitting in front of a gas pump and not filling so others canât.
Except its proportionally much worse since you can always go to another gas station if the pumps are blocked.
Exactly. And they still do it at gas stations with out being fined.. Wait till people actually start buying these firebomb death traps...they will start crying about wait times with electric cars. Omg Sharon... Do you really need a full charge? I'm in a hurry.
Yeah, that's pretty scummy to block a charger.
The absolute garbage that people choose fill their minds with. This is how you choose to spend you days, inconveniencing people simply because the box that transports them uses a different engine and fuel than yours? Why, exactly? You only get one life with only so much time, spend it wisely.
Why waste you time with filling up at a gas station when filling up at home is cheaper and only takes a few seconds of your time.
Why waste time getting oil changes
Waste time with tuneups
Brake jobs..
@@thomaswilson2917 You totally missed the point, fella. Everything you listed is how to maintain a vehicle. That is not a waste of time, thatâs life. Try reading the comment again, I bet youâre bright enough to comprehend it!
@@murrynathan death and taxes are life..
Not filling up gas oil changes tuneups and brake jobs..
@@thomaswilson2917 I was wrong about your ability to comprehend what you read.
@@murrynathan you are a lemming..
Just go ahead and continue wasting your time when you don't have to.
Life does not require sitting at a gas station holding the nozzle of a gas pump.
Not only fine but have the vehicle towed and have to pay for the towing.
They tow for other kinds of illegal parking if you block access, why not for this? Double standard?
Confiscate the vehicle. Arseholiness should be punished.
Unfortunately, you can't normally tow an EV that is plugged in, but not charging, because the plug is locked in. There are 'naughty' (not illegal) ways around locked plugs, but I'm not going there...
@@greghudson9717 We are talking about ICE cars blocking EV charging stations. What are you talking about?
Government should use this opportunity to get additional money.
EV not charging should also be fined.
If you are charging at a Tesla supercharger and don't disconnect within 5 minutes of completing charging you get charged a pretty hefty fine per minute.
@@thomaswilson2917 if the car is not plug in and is just parked, how is Tesla going to charge a fee?
@@CeasarBergonia they can't
I was referring to people who plug into charge and go away somewhere and don't unplug the car after charging is finished..
Example.. supercharger near restaurant.
You plug in charging finished in 30 minutes.
You take an hour to eat.
Car is plugged in 30 minutes after charging is finished.
If theyâre plugged in but finished thatâs not showing malice, itâs showing forgetfulness. That is remedied by cash penalty direct to EV charging supplier which is far better than to the tax man.
@@rickagfoster in a Tesla you get a message telling you that charging is complete.
When you plug in the car tells you how long the charging will take.
Just St an alarm on your phone to remind you to get back to the car
That's the way to do it. Also fine any EV parked but not plugged in.
So someone removes your charging cable and you come back to an uncharged car with an additional fine?
â@@tonyengeham7210But, the time when charging started and stopped is of course registered. So there will be no fines after all, and if you have a Tesla all movements close to the car are registered.
As the charging stations are quite expensive, I think most of them are supervised by cameras.
@@tonyengeham7210 Cables are locked in (in most cases).
You donât want to top off an ev. Itâs bad for the battery.
@@GORT70 EV 101: LFP batteries can be topped up to 100% at any time. My Model Y rwd has such a battery.
Beautiful. What fines are they going to give EV owners who leave their car in the charging bay when the charging has finished?
Also, never heard of fines at ICE pumps when owner is 'inside' getting their convenience on.
Ev owners are charged for remaining in a charging stall once fully charged. It adds directly to their bill.đ
The charge sometimes takes 45 minutes so it is understandable if you are not back exactly when it finishes. The fines are for ASSholes that abuse the situation. I think if you are done charging and still there you get a fine per amount of time the car is still sitting there after the charge is complete.
Some don't even charge their car. They park there and "pretend" to charge the car by not plugging it all the way in. Just to have a parking spot.
â@@malcolmrickarby2313 not all chargers we have free chargers in most shopping centres and people will just use them as exclusive car parking and spend all day plugged in
At my wife's job they have a parking structure for which they pay a monthly fee. The city decided to put in a bunch of EV chargers and now there aren't enough spaces for ICE vehicles so they drive around playing musical chairs waiting for someone to leave while the EV parking spaces go empty. I guess we need to call that "EV-ing".
Thatâs terribly unfair for those who pay. Thatâs mis management for sure. As an EV owner, no one wants people to be inconvenienced. I hate when itâs public parking and there are ICE vehicles in theEV spaces when we need to charge and you can clearly see there are lots of empty spaces. I even hate when EVs are parked there and NOTcharging. As soon as we r Done charging we always move our cars đ
no you just need to buy a Tesla and use the abundant amount of supercharger stations around.
Fines for ICEing should be similar to the penalties for parking in a handicap zone and both should be enforced with vigor.
I would love to see the police to have a database to identify repeat offenders and those people could have their cars towed to an impound yard.
I'm 72 years old and actually prefer to park at a spot far away from the store, when I see handicap parking being used by a healthy 20 something I usually ask them "What's your handicap? Can't read!"
From a wchair user. Thanks.

People also do it because sometimes EV parking bays are in very close spots to entrances of shopping centres etc. Personally I don't mind if EV charging is at the back of the car park. If they are there and less petrol cars park in it i am all for it.
I've never seen an ICE vehicle in a charging parking spot. But I often find that people leave their EV on the charger for a long time after they are fully charged. We don't have many chargers in my town. Thank goodness I finally got my solar panels installed so I can charge at home!
very common now in Thailand but police cant do anything since most chargers are on Private properties like petrol stations or shopping malls. Some malls do have security guards helping to manage the charging spot areas
I see it a lot in rural areas and small, dilapidated rust belt cities. In bigger cities and areas which are doing better financially, it seems pretty rare. Rednecks who obsess over their pickup trucks are the most common demographic who do it.
Iâve seen ICEd spots and EVs left after theyâre done charging. The vendors should charge fees for leaving them there the way Tesla does, $1.00 per minute.
I experienced a guy blowing black smoke with his truck on me. Sad that there's people who would do this to others just minding their own business
I park my EV at the gas pump and go into the store to get my lunch. Just kidding! Should we call this EV-ing at the petrol pump?
Hey where else you gonna get a windshield cleaned?
If all the parking spots are full, fair. If they're not... Well, my truck has a brush guard. I can move you :)
@@BlackWolf18C works both ways. But weâre being facetious. Itâs not fair for EV ti park at a gas pump, nor a gas truck to park in an EV spot. Donât underestimate the power of a trailer hitch and an EV torque curve.

Yep.
Yes. EV propagandists.
Only crazies spite park. They get a fine or get towed, and life goes on. But now the new narrative is that ev guys are persecuted by evil ice guys. Gimmie a break. The people that would actually spite park are such a minority that it should not be even mentioned. People also park on disabled spaces. It isnât out of spite. They are hoping they donât get caught.
You have to be a pretty tragic person to do something like that deliberately.
They have 4 electric charging spaces at my local grocery store. They are always taken by ICE cars.
They are right next to the front door, there's a lot of elderly people in that neighborhood where it snows half the year. People have enormous respect for disabled spots, those don't need enforced, they are left open.
But expensive, tax funded, privileged spots, for young, healthy, wealthy virtue signalers?? I'd consider it pretty tragic if the locals were not putting those spaces to better use.
@@user-jb2om7cm8m I always park my EV at the petrol pump near the grocery store when I go shopping, in that way I can get in and out dry in case it rains. Who would need those outdated fuel hoses that are attached there?
@@user-jb2om7cm8m No reason to have those next to the front door.
In my little town (Netherlands) they charging spot is at the opposite side of the parking. If you need to charge a few minutes walking extra giives you extra time for charging (leverl 2 spots)
@@reiniernn9071The justification for locating them next to the front entrance is to meet ADA requirements. Typically EV chargers are located at the opposite end of the parking lot with an additional charger located near the entrance to provide a charger for someone who is disabled.
@@user-jb2om7cm8m Caring about your kids' futures is virtue signalling now?
Wow - what happened?
Yes they should be fined.
If I was a tow truck driver Iâd be parked and waiting near these charging areas, easy money, easy tow.
Well done Australia! Hope the UK follows your example.
Not saying that someone should do this, but four 2â nails painted black and strategically places would certainly provide a costly annoyance to the ICEr.
I donât own an EV and donât plan on buying one but whoever does this should get their car towed and a hefty fine to get your car back.
Imagine icing some EV drivers, only to find the air let out of all of your tires.
Sounds fair to me!
Imagine coming back from charging only to find your charging station's breaker was flipped shortly after you left.
I would hope they enforce handicap parking first. It is far more impactful
We had to use the superchargers in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and it was obvious that a lot the locals of Jackson are giant a-holes. The first time we charged there, three of the eight chargers were being ICED by the townsfolk. The second time we pulled in, seven of eight were blocked by everything but a Tesla. People were parking in those spots and walking a considerable distance to get to the stores entrance, when there was plenty of closer parking spots available. When one ICE car would leave, another would take their spot. It was the craziest thing at a supercharger Iâve ever seen. And the hateful scowls we got sitting there minding our own business while charging. I know itâs a pretty cool town, but many of the locals either hate the tourists and or hate EVâs too. Never have I felt so unwelcome in a US city.
Imagine if a bunch of EVs parked at the gas pumps how they would come unraveled. Childish people. I wonder if they park in handicap spaces too.
I would be embarrassed to park my petrol car in an ev charging bay
Yeah I would feel the same parking my petrol car in EV charging bay, it's degrading I would be glad to see the back of them who in their right mind would own one.
Good, some people only learn the hard way.
Recently took a picture of two ICE cars blocking an 300 W HPC at a gas station, when suddenly somebody rushed towards me, arguing they'd have a permit by their boss for parking there and vanished ranting without clearing the charging bays. đ
Well I think some state Hotels have where they employee park their so the costumers don't park their and they hotel staff can actually get their employee to get their car in move it instead of chasing down a costumer instead
In my experience the worst offenders are EV drivers. they use the convenient spot to park and also probably because the bays themselves are wider and less likely to result in door dings? On at least two occasions I saw a Taycan parked and not plugged in - in a Tesla Bay that they could not use anyway (not open to other non-Tesla vehicles). Just this weekend I saw an old Audi A7 park in an EV power supercharging bay and there were plenty of other spaces. I also see scrotes parking in Disabled bays and then walk off with no permit on display. Worst I ever saw was a VW Golf GTD stop and park across a Zebra pedestrian crossing and wander off. Car drivers can be selfish, I guess.
It's easier for EV owners to justify parking in the spaces, I guess. And easier to get away with. But they should face fines also.
That's ridiculous for such large amounts.
Nice job Australia, that's the way to do it
$60k is only 27 tickets...
@@menotyou1234 The story is complete BS - the $2200 maximum fine only applies if you challenge the fine in court and the magistrate applies the maximum available penalty, it's the same situation for handicap fines, up to $2200 but only on appeal in court.
The actual fine for unlawfully parking in a handicap spot (in New South Wales) is $581 and 1 demerit point , called an "on the spot" fine, as I have said above if you challenge and lose you could end up with a $2200 fine in total but the vast majority just pay the $581.
The actual on the spot fine for ICEING was $120 up to Sep 2023 and increased to $129 from October 2023, that's why 466 fines in NSW end up just under $60,000 in total, it's only when you challenge this in court and lose that the UP TO maximum $2200 comes into play, pay the fine as issued and there are no other penalties, these don't attract any demerit points either.
The fines should be per stall. I.E. if you sit your vehicle across multiple stalls, then you get a $2000 fine for each stall you block.
Like these protesters blocking traffic and universities right now?
This is going to happen more often when non tesla's use superchargers. The charge port on ford is on the other side compared to a Tesla, and the supercharger cable is small, so an F150 Lightning is going to take up 2 spaces.
Why should the government get involved? Police should be dealing with crime not blocking a charging station.
â@@mikecumbo7531because enough people got upset about it and their representatives made a law to find people who did it.
That's the basis for almost every law we have.
@@macmcleod1188 we already have laws that allow owners of a parking lot to have vehicles improperly parked to be removed. Why does the EV charging industry get new laws? They shouldnât get special treatment. Every gas station I have ever been to has signs just like a parking lot.
As for idiot EV owners who would deflate tires, that shows their moral compass and I would have trouble employing those people.
As long as the rule goes BOTH ways, so be it.
I drive a '69 Impala with a V8, specifically because I put the environment over my need to "feel" as if Im accomplishing something. EVs are destroying the environment fast, and the people that use them are quite selfish, putting their need to drive tiny girlish vehicles over actual safety and environmental responsiblity......Shame....
Those people are idiots then but on the flip side, we shouldn't be FORCED to go electric and that is what governments are doing.
Buy what you want and let the market will decide ICE or EV.
Should it not be up to the owners of the charging station to decide what happens if someone park their cars there? Why do the state have to decide who can and cannot park there?
Owners of a carpark don't have law enforcement authority. Only the government has that.
@@peteinwisconsin2496 - so if I someone trying to steal my bicycle, I am not allowed to stop that person?
@@JanBruunAndersen You can stop them from stealing your bicycle but you can not order them to pay a fine or to serve jail time. That is the jurisdiction of the government and the courts-- Not us private property owners.
@@peteinwisconsin2496 - but I cannot allow an ICE car to park at my charging station?
Charge $50/hour for the parking spot and make the charging free. People will choose the free spot next to the charging bay if they donât actually need the charger.
I like your idea though maybe not quite to $50/ hour. Agreed though that whatever charging costs, that is what the parking space should cost and charging should be free. The ICE-ers will then run up quite a bill AND law enforcement will jump at the chance to issue parking tickets for those who have not paid the $$ per hour on these expensive meters.
Big fines are good. Towing is better. The costs and hassle of getting a car back from impounded is high. Plus you canât sue for damages incurred many places.
We had similar when we moved from horses to the automobile. It took decades of transition, not because of technology, but because of mindset.

â@@davidandrews8007Some parts of the US still do not allow ICEV, horse only.
This is so frustrating, especially when you had planned to charge, the app says a charger is available and when you arrive, an ICE is parked there... Unfortunately no fine here.
I once called the non emergency police number and was told they wouldn't do anything about it, because it wouldn't be prosecuted, even though there was a fine. They would do something about a blocked handicapped space.
Good
The rest of the world needs to follow suit!
Someone did that right next to me at a fast food parking lot. No fines were happening. Seen icing at the local library destination charger. Never saw anyone use the charger yet.
In my village in Scotland they put in two 50kw/h chargers about three years ago in the middle of the village car park that had about 15 places which were heavily used. In those three years I have seen one car charging in just one of the charging places the rest of the time they are empty.
Good, keep it up.
worse than that are the aholes stealing the copper in the cables
$60k is only 27 tickets...
In the voice of George Carlin... Suppose a plug in hybrid, with a failed fuel pump, a worn out charging port and a declined credit card is parked at a non working super charger, one half meter from the parking stop waits for a tow truck, what then?
Fined. If the government has an excuse to take your money, they will justify doing so however they have to.

Great News , in my country Poland there is no fine for blocking charging bay :(
You are right, give a big fine to those people. While we are at it we also need to give a 2000 dollar fine to those climate activists who sit in the roads and block traffic. That is also totally stupid and unacceptable.
Property owners should tow these vehicles.
Nice additional income for the government.
Iâve seen two separate vehicles doing this, with all the air let out of their tires. Not suggesting doing this, but I bet these two jokers arenât laughing either!
Appropriate response, imho. No damage, just a lot of inconvenience even if they have a pocket compressor.
Better than slashing tires or ripping off wing mirrors.
They let the air out of the tires, now that ICE vehicle is stuck there till they can get someone there to air up the tires, therfore making the vehicle block the charger longer. Ya that was a great idea. The thoughts of a EV driver never cease to amaze me. I can tell you if that was me I would leave my vehicle there with all for flats for at least 24 hours as I sit in the vehicle, then claim someone is on the way to help every time someone asked me to move. You can't force someone to move a vehicle out of a parking spot that has an emvergency. 4 flats is classified as a vehicle emergency.
@@NatesHomeTours Then the longer you leave it there, the more it will cost you.

Does anyone know what the fine is here in Victoria ? I have seen many times, EV's that have been left overnight, finished charging (to 100% I assume), and are blocking use by anyone else. Like 2 days ago, this very thing happened to me. Both chargers were idle, plugged in, and I had to wait an hour before someone came to pick up their car. I spoke to the owner, who had only been an EV owner for 2 months, and she seemed to think this was acceptable behaviour.
In Germany the fine for blocking a charging bay is 55âŹ. But, depending on where you do it, you might get your car towed as well, which would add the local towing fee on top.
I live in the United States and unfortunately people are fighting more often and causing damage over parking even with law enforcement and tow truck drivers. Charging equipment also gets damaged and vandalized. There are cameras in parking bays for electric vehicles to enforce the no parking except electric vehicle charging but not all parking bays for electric vehicle charging bays have them yet.
Mandatory boot and tow with a minimum of 14 day impound would have an effect.
The best place for charging stations is away from the business who owns the space. Issues have arisen when a place like a hotel allows chargers very close to the hotel entrance. That is just asking to be ICEd out. In my state, the fine for parking an ICE car in an EV charging space is zero. The business could post signs stating EVs only or towing may occur and then they could enforce this. But why would a business do this since 95% or more of the vehicles in their parking lot are ICE.
They would do this to help incentivize more people to drive EVs
they are worried about vandalism, copper theives, plus the people parken in that spot need to move so they themselves are sharing the spot with other ev's
It is a wonder you don't still ride a horse. "Darn car at my horse hitch"
This might not happen in the majority of places in the USA. Chargers in private properties are up to the owner to tow the car away. Why would owners of properties tow when the ice vehicle owners are spending money in the stores or staying in the establishment? It is a felony to vandalize cars if the fix is over a certain limit. It is best to install destination chargers in these types of establishments and save the supercharging next to freeways. Santana Row in San Jose, California is what should be done.
You see one side only.
If you blocked gas pumps you'd get arrested, charged as a public terrorist, WTF. Why not same for blocking charger... a form of extortion, being held hostage to their whims, or sadistic pleasures ... a hostage.
I've never heard of anyone being arrested for blocking pumps. There's freaks that sit in traffic to block ice vehicles though and they don't seem to be getting arrested for this and it's an actual safety hazard.
Funny you mention this because we were supercharging in a petrol station in Scotland recently and we saw a collection of Porsches (GT3s etc) and other exotic cars like Ferraris turn up, about a dozen of them, they proceeded to park at the gas pumps, wander into the shop and then have a discussion about the gear ratios of their fly zippers or something - while a large queue of hapless drivers built up unable to fuel. Completely ignorant of anyone else.
Like common sense, common courtesy seems to be more than a little scarce there days. đ˘
Since covid-19, people seem to have forgotten how to treat others as people. đ˘
""If you blocked gas pumps you'd get arrested"" Are you sure ? Name the law. I'm pretty sure it's not a criminal, arrestable offence. It's a civil matter between the fuel seller and the driver.
Icing is for the grid charger companies to sue ICE drivers over, for loss of income.
It doesn't need a fine, it needs the charger company lawyer to get off their backside.
@@chrisbarron5861 At a minimum it would be trespassing.
An AUS $2000 fine (US $1,324) is a lot higher than what you get for taking a handicapped parking spot or using the HOV lane illegally. That's approaching what you get for Driving Under the Influence.
free money for cash-strapped states, I'm surprised offenders aren't fined $5000
The Australian govt has done TONS of very, very stupid things recently but I agree with this one.
The money should be used to fund new EV charging stations. Poetic Justice!
These fines are MORE to protect the seller of the electricity rather than for the chargers convenience.
I'd say the car park stands to benefit more as they are likely the beneficiary of the fine, especially with the sums mentioned in the video. Either way it's a win win for all.
How can you self report these people so they get fines?
I imagine they do it just for the parking space, which can be hard to get. In America, everyone owns a car, and all the nearby spaces can be filled.
@ paladin. So if no spaces are available we should park at a gas pump spot?
How much to park in a handicap spot? How about on private property? If i own the property and park in front of my charger, should I be fined?
Why pay 1,000s just to not get anything back? Your question shows your ignorance.
What about the ev owners that pull up to the pump at the servo just to get a donut
SO happy to hear about these fines being put in place...and in Australia no less, helll yeah đ
I sensibly drive a gas buggy. I will never park in a charging bay. But what really đirks me is stores and other places labeling for their
green ideologic reasons, convenience parking (near the door) as electric or hybrid only. I am especially sure to park there, even though I get occasional ticket litter.
So why is this so much more important than handicapped spots?
If you make the fine hurt, they will think twice before doing it....
Li-ion fires will melt that stuff right out of there.
In the US some people are going out and cutting the copper out of the ev charging units and even cutting off the charge cables.
Why don't they park in Handicap spaces ???? Because of the hefty fines. I just give them a choice to move or get moved by me. Replacing all your windows is more than a ticket. Choice is theirs
I have another problem - plug in Hybrids.
Many countries have 2xCCS + Type 2 22kW combo marked EV Only. And usually 7-11kW charger for customers nearby.
And a guy with a Hybrid that charges on fast charger at 3.3kW max charging and has 10kWh battery taking 1 charging spot. In time it takes him to fully charge, you could DC fast charge 3 cars.
I drive Renault Zoe which does not have DC fast charge, but it can do 43kW AC. And I have to explain every time that 'slow charger' he is using is 'fast charger' for me and ask him to move.
Towing and storage fees are worse than a fine!
I wonder how it would go over if I parked my Tesla in front of a gas pump and went in to the store to shop.. Just kidding of course.
I've seen this happen, but thankfully there was an open SuperCharger spot next to the jackass' gasoline car.
i went to get petrol at a servo, but had to wait, there was a telsta in front of me , the stupid owner was washing his car with the window washer spung. he obviously didnt need to get petrol.
Different problem I experienced today. Office has 4 EV charges that charge $1 per hr for 4 hours and $5 per hr afterwards.
All the spots were taken but only 1 charger in use. They probably unplug before the 4hr period and then donât move their cars.
Have you tried talking to your fellow workers to arrange a swap of spots at lunchtime?đ
@@malcolmrickarby2313 where i work, you would have to hire a valet to handle that as people come here and leaving a company vehickle... they would need a person to shuttle card around during the day.
interfering with essential infrastructure. Very heavy fines and jail time. $70,000 fine and 6 months in jail. Wake up to yourselves and don't mess with essential infrastructure.
They salty for getting dusted by Teslas đ
I don't even own an electric vehicle and I think these idiots need to get at least the same kind of fine as for parking in a handicapped spot. Or tow and impound their vehicles. Make it seriously inconvenient for them.
Where I live (WC Florida) all I see is eight time more empty, than in used charging spaces.
It would be nice if the fines go to a general fund to build out additional charging stations.
I wouldn't bother doing this. Ev owners are suffer enough just having an ev. đ
Evangelists call people who can see battery carsâ limitations â hatersâ .
Not so in most cases, battery cars are ok as part of the mix but they are not a replacement for internal combustion cars.
I agree with the fines. There has been times when I needed to charge ice drivers have parked in the charging bays.
I would much rather see hefty fines for parking in a handicap parking space with no platest or plackard!
I once called the police here in Germany but they wont respond to that. They said i have to contact the owner of the station
That's true. Illegal car parking isn't a police matter, it's an issue the council has to follow up.
"No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the average human". .No excuse for doing this. That notwithstanding, EV's are really not ready for prime time.
Havenât seen this in a couple of years now.
Curious if they charge the same fine for people who park in handicap parking spaces if they have them in Australia.
Would be terrible if someone blocked the ICE vehicle to plug in their vehicle to charge.
About time they do something smart đđđđ
In 2012, before it was cool, I installed 11,500 watts of solar panels on my property along with 3 hot water panels. They paid themselves off in 6 years, and I have been pocketing the money ever since. My system has a total of 38 panels, and each has an Enphase micro inverter mounted below each panel. The only issue I have had is that tree that fell on one panel during a hurricane, other than that flawless operation for just over 12 years. At today's prices and giving technology advances, my system would be 22,000 watts. I'm not an electrician. If you can put lights on a Christmas tree and build a Lego set, you can install solar. Don't rent solar from some guy that knocked on your door. Buy the equipment outright and do as much of the work yourself as you can. Most likely, but depending on your location, you can hire an electrician to tie it in once the system is finished. If you drive an electric car, buy solar and some storage battery's drive for free.
