@@franciscosuarez2346that’s wrong, my 02’ has an lq9, code in the glove box and everything lol there is no 01 escalade, unless youre talking about the pickups. the engine released in 2002 and was exclusive to the second gen escalade for 02’. I don’t think an lq4 has ever even been offered on the second gen escalade lol it makes more power because the pistons are flat top and it gets better compression because of it. I think it also has stronger rods though
I’m not exactly sure why GM did it but I do know with dish pistons like what comes in the LQ4 it lowers compression so you don’t have to run as high of octane fuel. Maybe that’s why GM did it but you also lose horsepower. If you plan on going turbo in the future go with the LQ4 but if you plan on going N/A I would suggest LQ9. Just my 2 cents though
They never put any kind of LQ in either of those. If they had a v8 it was a 5.3 unless it was an SS, in that case it'd be a 6.0 LS. The 2nd generation escalade only got an LQ9 unless you bought the poverty model with RWD only and you'd get a 5.3.

Second gen Escalade (the GMT800 platform) always had LQ9 as the 6.0. Third gen had either LFA or LZ1.
LQ9 with Flat top heads if it's from an Escalade. The Yukon Denalis have a performance tuned LQ4 that will still run on 87.

Lq4 was for the yukons. SS Silverado and escalade got lq9
The lq4 was the work duty/ hd engine. Its predominantly found in 2500+ trucks and hd trucks @@matthostetler5422

Yep, lq9 was the 1st one to get the full floating rods.
Also doesn't the lq4 have iron heads while lq9 has aluminum?
Both have aluminum 317 heads
99 2000 had the iron I think
