Was reading Helaman 5:2 about how laws & government were eestablished by the voice of the people, and they who chose evil were more numerous. So I looked at cross reference 4 Nephi 1:40 and I wondered about the 244 years - why was that important? So I did the math 2020 - 1776 = 244 years! The BOM is a type for our day and very inspired to help us to remember and cleave!

Great job every week guys! There is a Book of Mormon pronunciation guide in the church’s Library app at the end of the list of books in the BoM. You can also google it. In addition, we’ve made a game of watching you guys so that whenever David says RAD, the kids get a treat! Keep up the great work you two!

If you really want to know how to pronounce someone's name - there's a pronunciation guide in the back of the BofM. Or, open the chapter in the Gospel Library, and click on the headphones to listen to a recording of the chapter. Not even as funny as David's strange name substitutes, but it's there to check out if interested.

A haunting fact in Helaman 4:11 (preface to the pride verse):
“...yea, and it was among those also who professed to belong to the church of God.”
It’s sad to see this happen within the membership of the church (starting in ch. 3). It’s natural, I think, to believe that threats arise from outside one’s group, be it country, state, party, church, etc., but the genesis, in these chapters comes from within. (And as others have mentioned, it’s hardly the first time). To take it one step further, it starts within one’s own heart. This year I’ve had to re-evaluate so much of my beliefs/worldview at the possible expense of not aligning with ‘groups’ I have before, groups where loyalty is an unspoken bond, such as family, community, etc. At the end of the day I have to remind myself that I have made few oaths in my life, and those few oaths/covenants were made with my Father in Heaven, and are empowered by His Son Jesus Christ.
It’s a walk I never anticipated but the gem Mormon left me was Helaman 3:35.
Never thought it would be this painful.
