Got a lot of Respect for Arsenal, half decent team and fans before the Emirates shite. Loved the old Highbury, proper ground, decent firm, 80s style old ground beautiful. Villa fan here that old Highbury holds a memory and half that day and all that was great about the 80s RIP my beloved football
I was there...an amazing experience that I will never forget...and I was neither an Arsenal supporter nor an Aston Villa one...but a student in England that used to adore at that time the ENGLISH football...merci beaucoup...arrivederci...🎩?
was there in the clock end ,well over 20.000 villa easy that day, always remember the figure 27.000 being talked about in the weeks after,,what a day though, still got the match ticket,,coach ticket and program ,remember the convoy of coaches going through north london ,dont think the people of islington had seen anything like it before...
Hi Mate. Me and my friend Ada Pate were top left in the clock end on that day. OK- we lost two nil- but we all sang the name of Bosko.. 'Bosko Jankovich' who had just scored for Middlesborough again- against Ipswich The Arsenal fans ran on to the pitch..at the end. of our game. because they had just about scraped into a Uefa place. If you were there, you will remember that PELE came onto the the pitch, before the game, because of Arsenal being in the top League for 80 years...Balloons etc. We WERE THERE. What did the Arsenal fans do at the end of the game whilst we were celebrating?...cut up the turf and tossed it to their mates in the stands. They knew, as did we, that the pitch was to be taken up and re-laid in late 1981. Villa fans were very disciplined and cordoned off by a line of Police etc. We Won. My mate and I were there...and we did the 'Conga' at Toddington Services Station.. with thousands of other Villa fans. Any details from other fans who were there would be welcome!!!!
Highbury has always held a special place in my heart...aside from this day, it was an amazing stadium with beautiful architecture especially from the outside. Much better than that Emirates carbuncle.
I was in the Clock end. What a day. Got split up after the game. Got on the wrong tube train full of Arsenal fans. Just kept my head down until the next stop. I remember a few Villa fans got in the seated area to the right of the Clock end (as you looked at the pitch) and started pulling up some of the seats and throwing them towards the Arsenal fans who'd come on the pitch.
I was there. One of the best days of my life. Remember being chased by guards for jumping the tube turnstile 😂 Then gambolling on the pitch. What a crack. VTID.
I was there behind the goal, late getting in just got on the terrace and they scored but what a day , they couldn't present the trophy as the fans on the pitch facing off .... VTID
57'472 there that day. I was in the school Boys enclosure aged 10. The last but one massive attendance at the old Highbury. Having said that there was always more in grounds back then than advertised as the clubs would turn off a couple of turnstiles half an hour before KO and trouser the money, not to mention two going through the turnstiles together . Probably around 60'000 being closer.
I was there in the clock end, there was easily 20,000 Villa fans. I ran on the pitch and dug up a handful of Highbury pitch from the goal area and pocketed it. Planted it in my own garden. Woohoo.. What a day!!!!!
I was there in the Clock end. Best away support I've ever seen, what a day.

Good days mate, you're lucky to keep hold of your ground , one of the last great English stadiums relatively untouched.
big respect mate.
Highbury was magnificent place
I was there, too, in the Clock End - and in the Aston Tavern later when the coaches got back. Saunders, Saunders, Saunders, Saunders.

27,000 was the figure that had stuck in my head from the time, but then I began to doubt my memory.
