  • It turned out that Keith Burkinshaw was in his penultimate month as Spurs manager after a memorable 8 years in charge. Opposing him was Don Howe, at the time only a caretaker, but appointed full-time manager of the Gunners a week after this game. The match itself contained a second half period of 4 goals in almost as many minutes, and a brilliant solo effort by Charlie Nicholas. You're now with Brian Moore.

    Proper football. Every player 100% committed. Pitches were crap but the quality of the football was excellent. No diving. No cheating. Pay a couple of quid at the gate to get in. In the days when fans felt connected to the players. Super stuff and brings back memories of 30 years of standing in the North Bank.

    I was right behind n.bank goal and had to hold on to a man about 90years old when we scored. He was a gooner and still had to make the game despite his age but I was hanging on him in case he disappeared under the crowd. Great day in the home of football. The true MECCA.

      keyboard hoolie alert. You obviously weren't there. I was. Let me guess you think there were 150 gooners and 1000 spurs in the NB. Laughable. Just because you read about it doesnt mean its true. No mention that you had to start issuing vouchers to stop spurs with their regular incursions. Thats it nothing more. There were a few spurs in the NB but it werent no big battle like you keyboard warriors think. I aint stupid enough not to admit that the gooners were good mid to late 80s. But people were being nicked and dropping out because of other things. Not that youd know. Gooners very good late 60s early 70s until 75 and very good mid to late 80s. There you go. Impartiality.

    I remember seeing Steve Archibald back in 1994 when I was living in Tenerife. He was the manager of a Scottish side, East Fife I think it was, he took the whole of the team over for some warm weather training and they were staying at the resort where I lived. I spoke to him in 1 of the bars and asked him which of the clubs he played for was his favourite, and he said Spurs because of the way Keith Birkenshaw managed him and the players in that Spurs team. He looked the same as he did in the early 80's 😆

    The best result had happened before the ball was kicked. This is the game Tottenhams yearly taking of the North Bank came to an abrupt halt. Like West ham a few months earlier their crew got in the ground early but the gooners were waiting for them and had a massive mob brawl with hardly any O/B around on the west side of the North bank.
    Tottenham got battered and we never saw their ugly mugs in the north bank again. Next away game at spurs 500 gooners march down the high road. We rule now!

    I've got a question for the Arsenal fans. This is only for those of you in your late 50s and over. I want to hear from fans who went the game and were following Arsenal at the time. No wikipedia answers please.
    What did you think of Nicholas? I see that Woodcock, Mariner and Nicholas played here. What that common? Was Nicholas playing just off the front two?
    Now, one for the Spurs fans. Again, only for those who went the game in the 1980s.
    Did you get all the clock end for these games? My team only get a section of it. In some Arsenal-Spurs games it looks like the Clock End is mostly Arsenal, here it looks a bit different.

They print up leaflets and distribute them at a home match, saying everyone thinks we are a shit firm everyone’s battering us and time to restore pride and give it to West Ham. On Recon the leaflets falls into the hands of West Ham, who them go to you meeting place before the game and have you on your toes at about 8:00 in the morning.

    • @brickabat5113
      @brickabat5113 Před 5 lety +2

      @r que Sorry mate but i too was involved with spurs at this time. In april 82 we played Arsenal at Highbury and won 3-1. Mickey Hazard and Hoddle ran the game and Hazard scored a wonderful goal. If you're telling me that spurs didn't take the North Bank that day then you weren't there. We smashed the Gooners and went right through to the middle and there was nothing they could do about it.
      I also dont agree with your views about us and west ham. I would say they had the psyche over us. I would love to say it wasnt the case but thats how I found it. Alot of people would go missing matchdays with them and then reappear for the next away game. I was not at the 1980 league cup quarter final but if youre saying we battered them, then im surprised but i'll take your word for it. I managed to get out of work by half 7 that night and they were showing it live at the Rainbow in Finsbury Park so i watched it there.
      I agree with you about many things though. Arsenal seem to have more keyboard warriors on here than any other club. They have a real problem with what really went on back then and this bloke Timeforafag is definitely one of them. Hes just saying word for word the same old bollox that all their keyboard warriors read out. When did they ever put a firm on the Shelf from the mid 70's onwards? Never! This idea that they smashed us in 83 or 84 (the liars keep changing the years) to stop us taking the NB is total bollox. It never happened. The OB sorted the problem for them by making it all ticket and erected fences because one year a few spurs came from the west stand and ran on to the pitch and straight into the NB when it went off. From 84 arsenal were decent and even into the early 90's. It was short lived though. Maybe I was lucky but whenever i was involved we always had the upper hand. They also wont like hearing this but the idea that they had this sort of honour thing and never went after shirts is more bollox. I even saw them do it in Manchester at the semi final in 2001. To be fair it happened everywhere back then.
      Take care.
