- The 2014 Champions League final is very well known for any Football fan, but what if I told you there is more to it than only the final?
The third episode of the "CONTEXT" series will tackle the long path of both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid towards their encounter in 2014.
From managers like Schuster and Capello, to Mourinho and Ancelotti. From Florentino Perez's fall to his rise again with the new Galacticos era.
From Atleti's fall to the Segunda division to their ascendancy back up to La Liga, from Fernando Torres and Aguero, to Forlan and Falcao. From chopping and changing managers, to the arrival of Diego Simeone.
This episode will cover all of that and more.

Feels like we've all been waiting for this one since the Galactico's video. Great as always. It's such a shame that copyright makes including the english commentary difficult.
What Simeone has done for Atletico is insane. However, I did not realize how well he was set up to succeed from the previous manager. The winning started just before and seemed to allow Simeone to get right to competing for and winning the truly big titles.
Yes I agree on the Simeone part. He had a great pool of talent in his disposal, they just needed better man management and defensive discipline to jumpstart a true fight on 3 fronts.

Just to let you know you are one of the most hard working football documentary maker on CZcams and as a 15 year old Zimbabwean I really take inspiration from you with the incredible videos regardless of how long it takes.Maybe in the future you could make the rise and fall of Ac Milan as they are a historic relic in world football with the accolades they won but even if you don’t make the documentary I would still watch your vids as they are entertaining and amazing and keep up the good work

That's a nice suggestion on AC Milan. Given their amazing peak and long fall, it's also nice to see how they are starting to improve again. I doubt they'll become the same team they were in the past, but it would be exciting to see.
I feel for Jose Mourinho he laid the building blocks for future ucl titles at Madrid but didn't win even once.

Everyone keeps forgetting how Mourinho indirectly involved in the La Decima journey, he instilled the winning in all competition mentality and strong defense into Madrid
Not only did we witness “la decima” in the making, we also witness the resurrection of Atletico, their path to win the La Liga after 14 years is also inspirational, and as always in the context episodes, the final few minutes of the video always gives me chills
People don't realize that Bale is the only player born in the UK to score in 2 different CL Finals. Truly one of the most underrated players of our era.

I'll say this: the 2010s was the last decade where we saw proper football, it might not have had the magic and spectacle of the 90s and 2000s however that decade truly held it's own and this feature film which features Real Madrid and Atleti was the epitome of that era.
The 2020s will be the era of football in which every player will turn into a robot that blindly follows the orders of the coach🤮

Mourinho changed Madrid forever. 11 years later, they still have the best counter attack in the world. Shame they didn't reached the 2012 UCL final. We all know what would have happened.
I still can't believe that didn't win the Champions that year, it just wasn't meant to be
I have been lucky to lived through the tough and good times of Madrid. This final will always have a place in my heart as I will always remember how hopeless I felt watching the final minutes of the game. And then Sergio Ramos man, truly a legend I wish he would had been more respected when he left but he was the face of that Madrid defense, he played with heart. This one will always be special thanks for the video.
I am supporting Atleti for Almost 10 years. It will always hurt for these finals, especially 2016. But I have to give credit for the Real, the character that they have in Ucl is something that any team needs 👏👏🤝
What Diego Simeone has built in Atletico Madrid camp is something that should be an inspiration for many struggling teams who dream and dare to make up to the top....

Don Balon is easily the best football content creator I've ever witnessed. This channel has so many great stories filled with objectivity and detail.
As a Real Madrid fan it gave me so much nostalgia on how our La Decima was so difficult. Till date it still hurts me that we failed to win the La Decima in 2012 because we were the best team in Europe.
As for Atletico I now fully understand why they'll never sack Simeone. I always thought of it as a team just lacking ambition but I didn't look at it in a way were I can say Simeone was like the second coming of Jesus to Atletico.
Thank you for this piece and I hope I'll see one for Real Madrid's 3 peat journey. I don't care how long it will take because I know Don Balon Content is God Tier.

honestly I can't stop rewatching these videos almost just for the ending montages. you make them so well, such a way to tie together a journey of a video. Try 2014-18 Real. The GOAT team and GOAT playing for them. 5 years, 4 UCLs, 3 straight. League, cups and CWCs. 4 Ballon D' ors (not much meaning with Modric stealing CR7s and Messi stealon from VVD and Lewandowski. It's destroyed it's prestige. The Fifa or UEFA whichever Player of The Year is the one that counts now.

This amazing I had discovered you channel when writing exams and I needed an escape. I had no idea this was what was going in 2014 cause I could not afford to watch football all I had was the game on the xbox360 and its been a learning experience for me. Thank you for this and its worth the wait. I also feel like Florentino Pérez attitude sometimes isn't helpful to Madrid yes knowing how to handle finances is good but lacking patience and lack of faith in players isn't helpful at all example is Ronaldo how he did not support him fully just because he was a project from a previous president's project is insane. Diego Simeone had the right tools at the right time and I love it was like that such stories are always rare in football .Also never had an idea where Diego Costa came from so getting this history lesson was amazing and always thank you!!!
