  • I wanted to show you my ‘letterbox’ zip method, so we may as well make a bag while we’re here! The bag has the zipped pocket on the back, a patch pocket on the inside and fastens with a flap with magnetic snap.
I used Modern Leaves canvas in grey with poplin liing from www.debbieshore...
    Finished size: 10” x 7” x 2.5” [25cm x 18cm x 6cm]
    Materials:
    32” x 17” [81cm x 43cm] outer fabric
32” x 11” fusible fleece [H630] fuse to the front, back and flap outer pieces
    40” x 11” [102cm x 28cm] lining fabric
    8” [20cm] zip
    44” [112cm] of 1” [2.5cm] wide webbing
    Magnetic snap
    Cut:
    2 outer and 2 lining pieces each measuring 11” [28cm] square, cut a 1.5” [4cm] square
    from each bottom corner
1 outer and 1 lining piece each measuring 9” [23cm] square for the flap
    1 lining fabric measuring 8” x 13” [20cm x 33cm] for the letterbox pocket
    2 outer fabrics each measuring 8.5” x 6” [22cm x 15cm] for the patch pocket

Lovely Welt pocket. The name Letterbox is so appropriate. You just slide the fabric in the box....priceless.

I’ve always been frightened of doing these pockets, but your demonstration makes them look really easy to do. I’m off to buy a zip!

I love your bag Debbie! My kind of bag. I only carry crossbody bags because they are so handy and secure. I’ve made the zipper pocket like you did and it is really easy to do. Beautiful bag.

Thank you for a great bag pattern, Debbie! 💝I made one this afternoon, and I did something wrong because my zip pocket is too high on the back and my flap comes down too far on the front. I am going to try again this week. I first learned how to make that type zip pocket on your tutorial for the very large bag. I made several of that pattern.

Thank you for this great tutorial. I'm going to start looking for fabric this week!
I made the tote bag with pockets from June, 2017. I made a mistake on the lining, but it wasn't obvious, so I left it! I made it a little larger than the demonstration, but plan to make the original size for my trip this fall. I'm also going to add a 2nd zip pocket on the other side and maybe one on the inside along with the open pockets.

Might make mine 11 x 10, i have made many bags, but just want a simple bag without interfacing, so not too heavy on my shoulders, have osteo!!! The outside fabric is quite thick anyway so that will give it some stability!!! I like a zipper pocket for the outside for my phone etc and a simple pocket, called a slip pocket for the inside for
little things, sanitizer etc!!! I will make a crossbody strap without making it adjustable, simply made i think!!! I like the way you describe as you go!!! I could make it without watching, but everyone that designs and sews
gives out different ideas and pointers, thank you!

I made mine yesterday, very easy and lovely pattern, also liked the way you did the flap!!! Only problem was my strap ended up too long, so now have to make folds where straps meet seams, otherwise crossbody comes down to below my hips, i should have measured 48" too long for me! It's for me so a couple of folds in straps won't be a problem!!! Didn't want to unpick or cut strap because of fraying of nylon
    strapping!!!

So great a tutorial, i absolutely must try this, perhaps bigger if I can find out of the messerment for the pieces🙏😁
I saw another video and in the side seem she sew stitch in the ditch in the lining from outer side, just 3 to 4 inch, it should minimize the linning to come up when you reach into the bags bottom, hope it makes sense
