  • Updates since last video:
    The bridge dome is slowly coming into shape and I’ve featured more fly through action. Some more work on the shuttle bay snd control room.
    I’l be outfitting the interior of this ship over time. See my previous Deck Plan videos for more on the planned layout.
    Description:
    A brief video (4:03) of work-in-progress deck plans for a fan-made “Sparrow” class starship that might have existed in Starfleet during the old show (TOS) era of Star Trek. This model is under construction. Please subscribe for updates.
    The goal is to design and virtually construct a starship that embodies the familiar Enterprise configuration of a saucer, secondary hull and warp nacelles…in as small a vessel form as practical; sort of a “mini-Enterprise”.
    The ultimate goal is to share a completed, exterior 3D model and deck plans so others may build on this idea if interested.
    This compact yet fast and maneuvrable class of vessel is inspired by Constitution, Daedalus, Pioneer and Nova class starships. Its primary mission profile is as a science vessel performing short-range scouting and surveying.
    The Sparrow class might also serve other mission profiles: training ship, short-range supply or express courier, diplomatic transport or covert, surveillance vessel.
    In times of conflict I imagine these vessels may have been pressed into service in a manner similar to the “Liberty Ships” of WWII; being quickly and easily constructed by Starfleet and numerous in production due to their reduced scale and simplified form.
    A tactical version of the Sparrow class has all science and astrometric labs removed and replaced with auxiliary generators to augment deflector shields and the existing 9 phaser banks (18 emitters). The forward probe and beacon launch tube is refitted for photon torpedoes. Additionally, both aft airlocks and adjacent fabrication bays are converted into a pair of rear-facing torpedo launch tubes.
    The “Sparrow Maneuvre” involves multiple Sparrow class tactical variants warping in, assuming formation in an escape trajectory at full impulse, before firing torpedoes in concert and warping away.
    The crew complement for the standard, science variant of the Sparrow class is 45:
    - Captain
    - Chief Medical Officer
    - Chief Science Officer
    - Chief Engineer
    - Chief Security / Tactical Officer
    - 8 Junior Officers (2 Science, 2 Security / Tactical, 2 Engineering, 1 Medicine, 1 Communications)
    - 16 Ensign
    - 16 Crewmen, enlisted
    A typical duty shift aboard a Sparrow class starship requires 15 crew members: 6 bridge crew (commanding officer, helmsman, navigator, science officer, communications officer, security-tactical officer), 4 engineering crew, 2 crew in sickbay, 1 crew member in the galley and 2 science specialists who alternate between time spent in the science labs and the bridge stations of Science 2 and Mission Operations. The vessel typically operates on a 3-shift cycle; alpha, beta and gamma shifts with specifics left to the discretion of the commanding officer.
    Length = 70m / 240’
    Width = 29.3m /100’
    Height = 19.5m / 64’
    The Sparrow class starship features 4 decks:
    - Deck 1: bridge, emergency hatch, captain’s quarters, captain’s ready room, conference room/officer’s mess, senior officer’s office, emergency batteries, computer cores (P&S), deuterium tank, matter injector, shuttle bay observation & control room, cargo storage, shield emitters, forward dorsal phaser banks (3) and aft dorsal phaser bank.
    - Deck 2: airlocks, crew’s quarters, galley, mess & recreation hall, sickbay, sonic showers (emergency triage), lifeboats (6 x 8 person), navigational deflector control room, main engineering and warp core reactor, primary EPS conduits (P&S), shuttle bay (including a single class F shuttlecraft), cargo transporter & storage, fabrication bays, impulse reactors and control rooms (P&S), observation corridors.
    - Deck 3: personnel transporter rooms 1 & 2 (2 x 4 person (P&S), shield generator room, structural integrity field (SIF) generator, inertial dampening field (IDF) generator, warp plasma containment field generator, engineering lab, chief engineer’s office, science labs (1-4), emergency batteries, subspace tranceiver, forward & aft tractor beam emitters, lateral (P&S) & forward (P&S) phaser banks.
    - Deck 4: antimatter injector and storage pods, warp core ejection system, planetary sensors, long-range sensors, sensor control room, launch tube (probes and beacons) control room, water storage, waste processor, atmospheric processor, aft, ventral phaser bank.

      Thank you for the view and feedback.
      I’ve got a slightly more recent video shared here:

      Still learning how to 3D model and also make these videos. Hopefully getting better over time.
      Thanks again. See you “Out There!”

    She's amazing. It is a realistic design I personally would like to see us try to build for real. She's one of those ships that it would feel like you are in a special club if you where on her crew, small, but scrappy, she looks like she'd take great care of her crew.

      Thanks for the words of support. I agree with the small but scrappy description and on such a small ship the crew would rely on one another like a family I imagine. It’d be a fun ship to serve on too I think; a place to gain command experience before eventually moving on to another probably larger ship.
      Thanks again for following the project. There’s more to come!

      @@AJFisherDesign well I think what I like most about this is that it's so practical and actually so possible for us to build currently I mean you know if we can just get a little bit of a space dock put together up there we already got the space station so that's a good start you know somewhere we can build it in orbit that would be freaking amazing and I hope they do it I hope they do something similar to it anyway it just be amazing and when you get a chance I would love to see a version of this ship refit to be a part of the original series movie series so Star Trek the motion picture onward I would love to see that version of this ship and then perhaps when you're done with that and you could do the version that would have been flying around during the Next Generation error I don't know man I think that'd be really really cool to see all that

      @@TheMightyCookieShow I’m glad you are enjoying the practical side of this project. That’s partially what inspired me; seeing so many city-sized starships and feeling overwhelmed. I decided to go in the opposite direction; how compact can one go?
      I agree it’d be fun to build a “refit” version of this one day. I intentionally chose basic shapes on this starship to try and capture some of Matt Jefferies original Enterprise feel. A refit that is sleeker would be a nice challenge one day.
      Thanks again. See you “Out There”!

      Yes, a proper crew is also being developed and will be on board in time.

    Pretty cool. But given the diminutive size, it seems more sensible NOT to have a shuttle bay/ shuttle & allow the entire ship to make planet-fall.

      Thank you for the kind feedback and view.
      You may be right about the practicality of having a shuttle bay on such a small ship. Especially with 2 transporter rooms and a cargo transporter. Others have mentioned the option of landing the ship entirely too.
      I must admit this vessel is perhaps not entirely practical as I plan to tell some stories aboard the Vortex in time and some decisions, like the shuttle bay, are motivated by both tradition and storytelling potential. It’s also a large, open area that could serve multiple functions. I envision ad hoc bowling alley on the shuttle deck when approved for R & R.
      Landing the ship on a planet seems so risky and a vulnerable position to be in but it’s also exciting storytelling so who knows…
