  • Updates since last video:
    Built and installed a navigational deflector dish, fitted the primary deflector shield generator, began work on the bridge dome, upgraded the shuttle bay traffic control lights with a configuration typical of TOS vessels and created the beaming platform for a cargo transporter (based on one depicted in the Star Trek Starfleet Technical Manual, and added more little details such as wall intercoms and a couple desktop viewers.
    I’l be outfitting the interior of this ship over time. See my previous Deck Plan videos for more on the planned layout.
    Description:
    A brief video (3:06) of work-in-progress deck plans for a fan-made “Sparrow” class starship that might have existed in Starfleet during the old show (TOS) era of Star Trek. This model is under construction. Please subscribe for updates.
    The goal is to design and virtually construct a starship that embodies the familiar Enterprise configuration of a saucer, secondary hull and warp nacelles…in as small a vessel form as practical; sort of a “mini-Enterprise”.
    The ultimate goal is to share a completed, exterior 3D model and deck plans so others may build on this idea if interested.
    This compact yet fast and maneuvrable class of vessel is inspired by Constitution, Daedalus, Pioneer and Nova class starships. Its primary mission profile is as a science vessel performing short-range scouting and surveying.
    The Sparrow class might also serve other mission profiles: training ship, short-range supply or express courier, diplomatic transport or covert, surveillance vessel.
    In times of conflict I imagine these vessels may have been pressed into service in a manner similar to the “Liberty Ships” of WWII; being quickly and easily constructed by Starfleet and numerous in production due to their reduced scale and simplified form.
    A tactical version of the Sparrow class has all science and astrometric labs removed and replaced with auxiliary generators to augment deflector shields and the existing 9 phaser banks (18 emitters). The forward probe and beacon launch tube is refitted for photon torpedoes. Additionally, both aft airlocks and adjacent fabrication bays are converted into a pair of rear-facing torpedo launch tubes.
    The “Sparrow Maneuvre” involves multiple Sparrow class tactical variants warping in, assuming formation in an escape trajectory at full impulse, before firing torpedoes in concert and warping away.
    The crew complement for the standard, science variant of the Sparrow class is 45:
    - Captain
    - Chief Medical Officer
    - Chief Science Officer
    - Chief Engineer
    - Chief Security / Tactical Officer
    - 8 Junior Officers (2 Science, 2 Security / Tactical, 2 Engineering, 1 Medicine, 1 Communications)
    - 16 Ensign
    - 16 Crewmen, enlisted
    A typical duty shift aboard a Sparrow class starship requires 15 crew members: 6 bridge crew (commanding officer, helmsman, navigator, science officer, communications officer, security-tactical officer), 4 engineering crew, 2 crew in sickbay, 1 crew member in the galley and 2 science specialists who alternate between time spent in the science labs and the bridge stations of Science 2 and Mission Operations. The vessel typically operates on a 3-shift cycle; alpha, beta and gamma shifts with specifics left to the discretion of the commanding officer.
    Length = 70m / 240’
    Width = 29.3m /100’
    Height = 19.5m / 64’
    The Sparrow class starship features 4 decks:
    - Deck 1: bridge, emergency hatch, captain’s quarters, conference room/officer’s mess, captain’s ready room, senior officer’s office, emergency batteries, computer cores (P&S), deuterium tanks, matter injector, shuttle bay control room, cargo storage, shield emitters, forward, dorsal phaser banks (3) and aft, dorsal phaser bank.
    - Deck 2: airlocks, crew’s quarters, galley, mess & recreation hall, sickbay, sonic showers (emergency triage), lifeboats (6 x 8 person), navigational deflector control room, armory, main engineering and warp core reactor, primary EPS conduits (P&S), shuttle bay (including a single class F shuttlecraft), cargo transporter & storage, fabrication bays, impulse reactors and control rooms (P&S), observation corridors.
    - Deck 3: personnel transporter rooms 1 & 2 (2 x 4 person (P&S), shield generator room, structural integrity field (SIF) generator, inertial dampening field (IDF) generator, warp plasma containment field generator, engineering lab, chief engineer’s office, science labs (1-4), emergency batteries, subspace tranceiver, forward & aft tractor beam emitters, lateral (P&S) & forward (P&S) phaser banks.
    - Deck 4: antimatter injector and storage pods, warp core ejection system, planetary sensors, long-range sensors, sensor control room, launch tube (probes and beacons) control room, water storage, waste processor, atmospheric processor, aft, ventral phaser bank.

    The development on this model just keeps getting better and better. It's evident a lot of hard work went into this.

      Yes, my work has been affected by the cold weather so more time for hobby fun. I’ve also completed the determining where most everything goes so just have to redraw for this final (probably) model.
      Uploading a new video soon. I learned how to create a very basic outer space background that is fun.
      Thanks again for the views and support!
