  • Nissan’s small SUV gets innovative hybrid treatment - for a price 👉 Full Review: www.carsales.com.au/editorial...
    The 2024 Nissan QASHQAI e-POWER is a range-extending electric SUV with a 1000km range… masquerading as a hybrid.
Like the larger Nissan X-TRAIL e-POWER, it has electric and petrol powerplants but only the electric motor drives the car - in this case the front wheels.
That makes this small SUV quieter and smoother than most, because there’s no gearbox per se and no mechanical interruptions to power delivery, just like an EV.
But this efficient long-range hybrid doesn’t come cheap at more than $50,000, so we sent Feann Torr to find out if it represents value for money.

😄We have ordered the epower Qashqai - after researching so many new small SUVs. We have seen the factory in Sutherland UK, and our car was made in February. Mileage + range purely fits the Aussie distances - unbelievable; when some hybrids/EVs are only scoring 400km before having to refill. The finish is above grade, and we agree with the reviewers. The extra technology including the Advanced Noise Cancelling tech (Bose) -(which is only currently found in the likes of high-end cars) - is not found in its direct competitors. The heads-up display, unbelievable in comparison. Auto parking - and 360 views. And, the care to also have also some manual dials for the air condition and flow - means Nissan understand the driver, as one does not want to be flicking through layers of screens to defog the windscreen when driving through Ballarat when the temperature suddenly drops. The boot has a false floor - and on long trips we are going to use that for a half wheel spare, just in case. But in the city - no problems as Nissan provide a 5-year roadside assist. We have had a Nissan Juke for years - which averaged just on 10 litres per 100km, so we will half our petrol costs. So glad Nissan increased the engine size to 1.5 litre and that just ticks over with no leverage tension. We don't drive like the car "testers do" - and found the ride in the front seats - smooth and the steering is direct. The techo functions (and safety features) leaves many others in the same class in its rear vision mirror. Yes, more expensive - but boy are we looking forward to delivery!

Might as well buy a BYD Atto at that price.
