    I just replaced my side mount and the torque rod, I had a vibration at idle and used your other video for replacement guidance but it also took out my clunking noise when I hit a bump which I wondered what it was, I replaced the front struts last year and thought one was bad.It took me longer than your video-lol-but I was able to replace all of the parts and I'm now good to go.Thanks for your helpful videos, they are a big help.....

    I had the same problem about a few months back. The way I found out it was my mounts was because of my exhaust. Every time I started up my car the drone would be so loud inside the car. I thought this was normal because I had recently put a skunk2 exhaust on. After replacing the mounts and starting the car it sounded like I was in a hybrid all of a sudden.

    A simpler check will be the gap between the rubber and the aluminum support, no gap or if there touching you need to replace it. The one installed has no gap, the new part you have does.

    3:13 vs 4:03 not an uncommon issue, i use the "wear indicator" to determine if the mount is "sunk" and its actually the metal bar that you can see has rubbed on the mount and i will use that to determine its condition, otherwise you could always put a block of wood on a jack and jack up the oil pan and see if the problem "goes away", usually you get "excessive vehicle vibrations" and sometimes it happens more in reverse because of that mount failing, great video! just wanted to add another quick tip with the "wear indicator" i use, hope it helps someone else out there, thanks for the share!

  • @kylebales5329
    @kylebales5329 Před 4 lety +5

    Generally the symptom on those is a nasty vibration in gear and you dont have to torque them to see that they are bad. The mount collapses and the aluminum bracket on top touches the mount itself. Also, I have never seen one of the torque mounts go bad or had to replace one. Save your money. 22 year Honda tech. Good video for the DIY person though.

    Hi thank you for the video. I have a 2003 Honda Accord. A couple of weeks ago my mechanic had to change out my water pump and my timing belt when I got the car back there was major vibration and sound that I felt all over the car. I went got brand new tires but I still felt and heard a thumping, it was in sync but now it is only in the pedals and in the floorboard. I went and got my alignment done and I got my brakes and rotors changed. I still hear and feel the pulsating thumping. At any speed. It slows down or speeds up with the cars speed. It still does it coasting in neutral. But not when parked in neutral while pressing the gas. I tried the thing you did with the car sitting still but in drive and pressing gas and brake simultaneously and the thumping sound and feeling are there. But the sound is not loud, but I know it isn’t supposed to sound or feel like this. Something is wrong. What do you think it is?? I’m scared to drive the car!

    I would like to see you film on repairing this mount. Seen many videos of different procedures like certain bolts take out in order, engine drops back when removing mount due to not jacking engine correctly, etc. I want to see the reassemble because bolts don’t line up correctly. Some say taking out the bracket or jacking up engine will do. I’m all confused who to listen to.

    1:48 and 4:00 Pro tip. See how the metal tab on the side of the motor mount is resting on the rubber? Compare this to the gap on the new (revised) mount. Watch for the witness mark as the mount opens and closes. As a Honda tech, this was a dead giveaway that the mount had completely collapsed. (Yes it can also make noise/be bad when it is 75% or so collapsed as well)

    Awesome tips Big Dog, always appreciate your videos. You should do the Transmission mount replacement next, it rarely ever goes bad.
    I would like to add another tip that will help identify if the Passenger side motor mount is bad. @1:48 time frame, you can see the vertical metal piece is touching the rubber lower mount. THAT vertical piece is mount indictor that its either too low or touching the rubber mount. If you can't fit 1 quarter in their, it is bad. If you CAN fit 2 quarters, its about to be done for. I just replaced mine and did a before and after visual inspection and found the new one can fit about 5 quarters, no more vibration at cold start, at idle, or going down hills or over bumps. Hope this small info helps someone.

    My 2010 civic LX has 120K miles. The motor mount isn’t broken (rubber cracked and separated) as you show in the repair video on this car. When doing the torque test, as shown in this video, my motor/torque strut moves up as this one does. Not sure if the motor mount is bad. What do you think? Is it expected to move vertically 1/8” - 1/4”?

      Many times a visual inspection of the mount can be done, looking for cracks and the mount to be smashed down enough for metal to metal contact.

    I know this is an older video but maybe somebody will comment. I bought an 06 sonata and it looks like somebody has replaced with quick struts in the front and the sway bar links have been replaced. Also looks like at some point the ball joints and outer tie rods were replaced. I still get a knocking noise over bumps on the front driver side. Would a bad motor mount knock going over bumps?

    My 03 civic has a clunking noise almost as if someone were hitting something metal with a hammer. Happens only driving on uneven road or small bumps and seems to be from right wheel well. Freshly installed ball joints and swaybar links, everything is tightened. Do you think this could be my issue?? I was also thinking to check the sway bar bushings. • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  Před 4 lety

      Finding a noise in suspension can be tricky. Those generation Accords are known to have issues with lower ball joints making noise. Stabilizer links are another part that will make noise when they go bad on many models. If the issue started after the new strut install I would double check work (and verify is it not caused by cheap aftermarket strut assemblies). I only use Honda or KYB struts (and only KYB complete strut assemblies). For this car, a new engine mount fixed the issue czcams.com/video/9VJBPO_GlhM/video.html

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  Před 3 lety +1

      Sway bar links (stabilizer links) are a big cause of noise, but CV axles, struts, body panels and suspension parts/bushings can all make noise too. Sometimes it can be difficult to pinpoint it.
