It honestly looks more pleasing to me than the game on the Wii. (that's just me probably)
The reason for that is because of the 32 bit engine powering the Virtual Boy. They had more processing power available for well animated, higher-resolution sprites!

The Mutant Mudds dev (Renegade Kid) made a pitch to Nintendo to make a colorized remake on the 3DS and got rejected so... Nintendo just hates the game, I guess.

Ant, the little widescreen thing is supposed to symbolize the door in the beginning, as it's still opening as Wario jumps in, so the blackness is just the door.

BrownyBubs235 it also adjusts your depth of field when playing it on an actual console. Your eyes focus down the screen immediately and slowly open up.
I always thought it was to make it seem like you're coming into somewhere epic, so it makes it look as though you're just beginning to see the environment you're about to battle in. Sorta like if a curtain rises on a stage. You're being prepared to see something cool.

Actually, I would say the demon fits Wario's aesthetic quite a bit... or, at least, it fits Wario Land 4's aesthetic, considering that the game did have a bit of a darker vibe to it and a pretty stylized/sort-of messed up artstyle.

This is probably the only game that would be worth the effort, though.

So, all in all, the concept of Virtual Boy on Virtual Console _(heh)_ is dead on arrival, and the most we should want is a remake or remastering of its *ONLY* salvageable game.

He might have meant more in the direct "character jumps between of their own power" type deal. The 3D Stars in Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot are mechanically similar if not identical, but they're arguably not quite the exact same thing as a character doing the jumping themselves.

Nintendo is weird. They seem to be ok with poking fun at themselves for their past failures, they can be a good sport. Though at the same time, you can kinda tell that their past failures both hurt and embarrass them. Look at the wii-u. They are porting just about every sucessful game from it to the switch, which is a smart move, imo. For the virtual boy, I think they felt none of the games were good enough or interesting enough to deserve a remake. This is the only game that really deserves one, imo.

Other competitors (Sega, Sony, and Microsoft) would catch on and make Virtual Reality a LOT sooner. They would have more time to improve the graphics and motion controllers (if compatible.)

7:45 if you notice you're leaping through the door - the "screen" pulling aside is supposed to be the nearby doors that you've just jumped through still pulling back. In 3D the effect is likely much more obvious. Because you're playing it in 2D you're missing the stereoscopic death - so to you you're seeing the screen get wider, but on the console in person it would have looked like two objects sliding out of the way to reveal the stage.
This was the game they had in the VB display models they had at the mall, which was not only the only time I ever played a virtual boy, but probably the only time I saw one in person. I remember being like "Oh wow, this game is actually great. Also, why do my eyes feel like they're going to explode?".

Honestly you cannot do a Virtual Boy game review justice without actually owning the game and system. Emulation is not superior to original hardware, especially in a unique console's case. It is a lack of effort and it comes off as cheap and highly generic. It's something that any other reviewer could have done. I was waiting on a creative skit involving the Virtual Boy itself, but it was not there. As someone who actually owns the system, if you have actually played a Virtual Boy, you will find that it is a unique experience, and is not as bad as the internet assumes.

You know it wasn't him that started the Virtual Boy hate, right? There really is a fucking reason why the Virtual Boy failed; It was a piece of shit, now stop defending your precious console.
We are glimpsing a whole world we know nothing about. And one I want to beat back into hiding with a stick. The Virtual Boy was a bad experiment. Move on. One or two lost games is no skin off the industry's teeth.
I love my VB too. The thing that always bugs me is when people complain about the black and red. First, it was 1995. Second, red light is used because it helps perserve night vision and has a lower impact on the eyes.
Remember, we didn't have full colour flat panels at a high enough resolution in 1995. To get colour at cost, they would have had to use crt displays that actually WOULD fry your eyes.

Seriously the animation is so smooth and the graphism are so beautiful, it looks like more like a fan game, if the virtual boy wasn't in black and red i think the console would have work (seriously though i want a virtual boy with all of its games)

Fun fact, mutant mudds main mechanic was actually directly inspired by WarioLand on the VB. It's why it uses similar looking panels to hop between plains. It isn't a coincidence.

Man AntDude you have my utmost respect by telling everyone how awesome the wario land series is. Such great games and I wish we could have another
Kirby: Triple Deluxe and Donkey Kong Country Returns (as well as the sequels to both games) use the foreground and background jumping mechanic as well. In fact, when you were showing the footage for the bosses, Kirby: Triple Deluxe's bosses instantly came to mind.
