@@gespi005 Yeah, these people are the worst. However the media is not biased against Haitians but dominicans who openly denounce mistreatment and persecution against them are threatened and accused of being "Traitors". There was once a priest who used to take care of injured Haitians (attacked by dominicans) and he was labeled as traitor and lynched. This kind of behavior really makes me angry and sad.

Guess that's because most people in Dominican Republic are mulatos, mixed white and black, with a tiny bit of indiginous American too.

Coming from Brazil I always thought the 1 drop rule was stupid. There is a point when you could just be considered one race (besides, most people in the Americas are mixed to a degree) but if someone is only half black and only as dark as me then I really can't consider them black.
If that's the case why are non mixed or white passing minority the richest and rule all facets in your counties. Why are you "mixed" the poorest, discriminated against. Roberto Carlos, Neymar, Dani Alves were not mistaken for "mixed" when banans were being thrown at them, lol!

The Dominican Republic is a diverse mix majority nation. It is not simply a black nation. Just like the United States is not simply a WHITE nation as it has a lot of ethnicities and black people make up about 12% of the population (that would be a combination of African Americans, African immigrants directly from Africa, and black Caribbeans combined). there is more to story with haiti but people do a poor job talking about the history of haiti. simon bolivar was the pillar of the indepence of almost all the countries in latin america. but haiti was the first one to be liberated and helped simon bolivar achieve this. so haiti is the grand father of independence of most if not all latin american countries.

Yes, but the problem is that the Haitians did not want the independence of the Dominican Republic, they invaded the DR to be able to pay the debt of their independence with France and then they tried to change all the culture that already existed in the eastern part of the island, change the language, beliefs and others, that is not liberation and sadly that was the mistake they made
@@MsElemento1 Do you see whites living in the conditions that Haitians are living in?
Why do the smallest countries ever always have like 500 provinces/states? Lol
History and geography define borders... If you look at US States, you'll notice the straight and 90 degree angled corners of many states because they were organized into territories and later states when they were mostly unexplored. Small countries like the DR have multiple states because of how spread out the country is and even at times lack of communication from higher ups in the chain of command.
Yup
your right because puerto rico has 78 municipalities
^ But Puerto Rico is not a country
Lol I've always wondered about that too. My country India has 36 states and territories, China has 34 provinces and equivalents, while both Vietnam and the Philippines have 50+ provinces.

I have been there 10 years ago and I'm planning to go back next year during the summertime. The country is gorgeous and the people are super nice and hospitable. I can't wait to go back there. One recommendation I have is to not just stay in a resort. The country has so much to offer. It would be a waste to not go out and explore.
Thank you geography now for so beautifully and skillfully teaching us about my mother country! I am a Dominican who lives in the U.S. and I take great pride in my culture and I rarely see anyone on CZcams talk about the Dominican Republic. I agree with pretty much anything you said. I think I speak for all Dominicans when I say thank you so much for paying mind to the DR.
I am a Dominican, Living in the Dominican Republic and I loved the video... Great job!
If the Dominicans are the fastest Spanish speakers, who might the slowest Spanish speakers be? And how or why did the Dominicans get to be such fast talkers? The narrator of these videos is one of the fastest English speakers. I have a little bit of a problems keeping up myself. Too much information in too short of a time to be able to digest it all.
I think we're fast talkers because of our african ancestry.
Maybe Colombians ..
Clarence Hammer the slowest are Salvadorans or maybe Guatemalans
I’m Dominican and I certainly do NOT speak fast! 🤦♂️
@@bolivararias668 That's not it. Chileans speak really fast and they are like 90%+ Europeans. I dont think it's due to race or environment. Maybe its historical reasons.
Barby, I just rather recently discovered your channel. These videos are going to be great for my students! Thank you for the engaging material.
Excellent video! Very good content and well put together. Although the part where you explain the historical differences between Haiti and DR, was not well explained. But everything else was accurate. Loved the video! Greetings from DR.
My beautiful country ❤️️🇩🇴
Really nice vid, DR is great, love from Greece!
Thank you! Much love back to you in Greece!
OOhh thank you Greece :)
Love from Greece's biggest land neighbor, Bulgaria!
Love Greece. I'm Dominican with many Greek friends. Greece rocks. Much love from DR.
My aunt has a Greek husband. He's one of the greatest people I know. Respect to Greece from a Dominican.
Love your channel! And I was looking forward for Dominican Republic video. You are so accurate in all our history and I'm thankful for that. #LoveBeingDominican
You are so well informed, my friend! On point! 👌🏽
@GeographyNow The entire context and humor within your show is brilliant and very well put together! But I did recall you saying in a previous episode that this is Geography Now opposed to History Now, inthe previous episode the knowledge was more effective with the formation of the country. The research and amount of time/energy it takes to put together one of these videos is hard and long already tough when you explained some of the history of each nation the episode becomes much more absorbing! Keep up the great work!
I am so proud to be Dominican! Cant wait till May to visit again!
Excellent presentation! And I love the HUMOR too! :)
dude this was awesome , nice work!
I really love how diverse culturally is DR, we really have everything there
Man, i love this channel sooo much. great work, keep it up guys :D
I'm Dominican and I love this video! Very educational and informative.
The whole reason of not telling people what 'race' they are, is because it creates more division! So when they ask you, you just say "I'm Dominican"... Many Dominicans (specially from El Cibao) have middle eastern ancestry and some of them are not even 'mixed' till this day, so it would be very tacky and presumptuous to tell one of them they MUST identify as black/taíno or European when they know where their family came from; the same can be said about Japanese and Chinese Dominicans (Which are a very small minority)... In short, Dominicana created the perfect formula to integrate all possible races without making one or the other feel like they are outsiders and it seems to ONLY make sense to us.
So yeah gringos, STOP telling us who we are! We know where our relatives came from. ✌
It's crazy how much Dominicans cheat. I know Dominicans with multiple families and just about every Dominican guy I have ever known cheats, even if they are married.

la Bella
Si! Te quiero mi amiga Quisqueyana!
Lots of love to Trinidad people from your ancient home India🇮🇳
Probably, the DR's way of thinking when it comes to mixed people is better.
Pretty similar to Brazil's racial philosophy.
brazilians and dominicans think the same way
+XZDrake Not true. Just propaganda and media bias.
it's common sense isn't it? Where are you from, if you don't mind me asking?
+lol322 Dominicans aren't racist towards haitians. The thing is that there is an immigration problem. Many haitians cross the border illegally and our border patrol sucks.
This was nicely done. Good job to you and your team.
Mad props! Love ur channel.
Perhaps, in the near future you can make one about Japan.
I think Vaina is the Spanish version of "Thing/y" or "Hing/y"
+Abbie Archer Yeah we in the Netherlands have the word "dinges" what also means "thingy" :)
It's basically the "use the F-word just because" of DR.
It's their spanish version of "Thing/y" or "Hing/y" almost all latino countries have a different one
Here in Argentina (and also in Uruguay) its "cosa/coso"
In Mexico it's "madre"
I'd say it's more like the Spanish version of Smurf.
That was incredible!! Being Dominican American, felt like you went through all the subjects and even the sensitive ones flawlessly!
Fantastic video - thanks so much!!
I'm Dominican and proud 🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴❤️
