The heated hand grips are AWESOME! My hands stay warm even with snow covering them.

1) I have had the exact same model for a several years now.. In my estimation it is an upgrade to the 30+ YO Craftman that is now lives @ my (remote) pole barn.
2) I bought it thinking the "heated grips" would be nice. Unlike you I didn't notice them heat up that much, and I rarely use them.
-(seeing your review makes me think they aren't working as well as they should)
3) I really like the "power steering" sure makes tunng this machine easy for this retired old man.
4) I also like the chute adjustment, mine stays in place and work quit well.
5) I agree only 1 (very slow) reverse speed is a minus.
I bought this Husq. when Lowe's had 'em on sale.. compared to todays prices it was an absolute bargian.
Even on property there is a place for this type of equipment. We have a 4 wheeler with a plow but this is a reasonable purchase for areas inaccessible to larger options. Protect those shoulders..they need to last a lifetime! Moving to Northern Idaho means moving to deep snow. My humble comments from Alaska..
Put a turbo kit on the second stage impailer and it will throw snow farther. Loved the music.
12/11/22 Just Bought One. Will Review after Our 1st Big Snow. I've been Looking for a Couple of Years Now . And Decided on a Husqvarna because of all the Reviews I've Read on All Makes of Snow Blowers and My Experience with 4 of their Chains Saws I've Owned over the Last 25 Years.

Great review! if you want to reduce the slop in the chute rotation there are two adjusters just above the engine on the cables to tighten up the slack. I was able to improve my by twisting these. I don't think you want it too tight that it would pre-maturely wear, but yours appears to have a lot of slack.

Add an impeller kit. It's just pieces of rubber screwed to the impeller blade. I made mine from an old tire sidewall ... It will change your machine to a snow throwing water pumping BEAST! ... good luck and God Bless...

The chute you can adjust so it's not so loose
Electric start is great when it works, but I guess if it doesn’t at least you have recoil as a backup

Thanks for the review. What do we know about the "MADE IN CHINA" engines longevity/reliability which are in all the major snow blower brands at this juncture (Toro, Husqvarna, Ariens, Cub Cadet)? I don't see Briggs or Kohler in any of the brands anymore.
Prime it 5 times, full throttle and full choke and it wont be cold blooded. You can adjust the shoot so it doesn't have slop.
Great review I have the 224p your right about everything. I wish they could have do like the old TORO joystick on the snow thrower 1 lever did adjusting height and direction. Could you please do a video on lubrication points for greasing.

I always do my P.M. in August 4 months after snow and if I'm lucky 4 months before I have to use it. So today was the day.
That Blower does have Electric start...there's a cap you pull off to get to the electrical plug in...it's right behind the Electric start button on the right side

@@EssentialMountainHomesteading Well hell, if she's able to do that at 94, I imagine she could snowblow. I was just a little surprised, that's all. My mother is 85, and ain't no chance in hell of her using a snowblower, even if she wanted to. All I can say is, "Godspeed" to your Grandma.
I believe I have the same Honda clone engine and it is so cold blooded I call it my Hawaiian snow blower. -25F is pretty common so I throw a blanket over the engine and use a 1500 watt heat gun aimed at the base of the engine to warm it up for about 10 to 15 mins in 0 to -25F temps. Once it's running I love it.
To anyone, don't go under 28" wide. It takes that much for 2 easy passes on a 4' wide city sidewalk.
You try non ethanol gas and synthetic motor oil??
I use nonethanol.. 7000' San Juan Mountains Colorado. Mine starts 2d pull 3rd at most. It's stored outside under a tarp. Still takes 3/4 choke when cold.
BTW the wd40 trick in the chute each team makes huge difference in the throw.
I turn off the gas and run it dry after each use.
I watch a channel called Paul & Kathy Short and he is a mechanic. He was repairing one of those snow blower and ran into problem finding parts. But he also lives in Newfoundland Canada .

Thanks for the review. Yes the initial price performance was what attracted me, but it really is just as cheap as some of the other box store offerings. Mine has been nothing but trouble including its current issue -- being stuck in reverse - apparently due to a broken cheap plastic console that is used to anchor the controls. I use it in New England and maintain it per the documentation but still has been disappointing. Enjoy your first season new buyers, it may be your last - hopefully you have better luck than me. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone considering a new one.
Been wondering the auger shaft has no grease zerks how do you grease the shaft??? and gearbox oil how do you check it??
I think if you will adjust the chute rotator cables the chute will more so lock in place.
Just look at the chute cables and there should be 2 cables and they are used as a push/pull system. You will see what looks like a turnbuckle on each cable. Loosen the jam nut and unscrew the main body part until the slop in the cable is taken up. (gone). Before you stick grandmother out there on it put a battery in it for her so she can use the Elec. start. Take care young man.
how far does it throw?
What grade gas do you use? In Canada the lower grades have 10% ethonal mixed in so I use a 91 octane which is just gas and better for the engine. Also use 5/30 synthetic oil in the crank case.
do not use any gas with ethanol in it use the high octane gas in all small engines, as they will not run right or to there full hp, and blow up in time if ethanol is used regularly, trust me I know first hand, don't matter what small engine,, or brand
My machine is sputtering. How would I fix that

I have the exact same machine purchased 3 years ago yesterday there was ice in the driveway and a chunk went in the machines and it busted a hole right through the base of the chute be careful of that. there's a plastic base just underneath the Chute and there is a safety sticker on the front of that plastic that's exactly where the whole went right through now I have to figure out how to get the base off, well the Chute first and then the base I guess. it's an $11 replacement here in Canada. And my heated hand grips never worked from day one but all in all it is a great machine
A person I ran in to with one of these last winter told me their heated grips never worked. I pointed to the switch on the dash. "Oh, that's what THAT is for! I thought they came on all the time after you start it!" Yeah, they worked.
@@MarkPalmer1000 well today is May 1st we haven't had any snow for about a week and it all melted but guess what? It is snowing like a bastard we're back up to 1 foot of snow on top of the green grass. Nope I know where my switches are. I've turned it on many times but I do not get any heat. I guess I'll have to bend down and bend over and take a look to see if some wires are just disconnected.
Sounds like Erie, PA where I live, it can go from being 80 degrees to snowing the next day in the spring! I looked at my ST224, and the switch for the warmers just looks to feed off the headlight wiring but they are just slip-on connectors to the switch. One of them might have come off the switch. The warmers work pretty good, if they work LOL.
@@MarkPalmer1000 it's made that way intentionally. That way you don't end up damaging your drive if the auger pins don't give. Cheaper to replace than a drive system.
Don't understand people that are obsessed with the electric start. Seems like a lot more work to unravel an extension cord, plug it into the wall, plug it into the machine, start the machine, unplug the machine, unplug from the wall, and finally wrap up the extension cord...than to just pull the rope once. These engines usually start on the first pull, mine is 9 years old and always starts on the first pull.
My 1980s mtd I used as a kid didn't have compression release like modern units. We started using electric start and left cord hanging. It didn't like to start first pull...
Synthetic oil is a must in all power equipment especially in winter machines

A brand new machine, hell yeah. They always start right up on the first pull. But most people don't own a brand new machine -- and then there is my 30-year-old tired dinosaur ...a battle to get going (and worth the trouble once the snow starts running away in terror). Would have junked it years ago without electric start -- and yes, I use starter spray, set the choke correctly etc.
Then enjoy your machine... Didn't your mom ever tell you to mind your own business.
The small 208cc OHV engines never start after the summer storage because of ethanol in gas, maybe the bigger ones do better. By the way, manual instructions say not to prime when the engine is warm, just open the choke and crank

I shut if off by closing the fuel valve, and letting it run out of gas. That way the carb runs out of gas and never "gums up" worked on my 30 YO craftsman snowblower (that is now relegated to the pole barn) and my 35YO rototiller. those 2, my 8YO lawnmower and this (30YO husq) always start right up and I have never nneded to rebuild the carb's.
i have had many brand snow blowers including commercial models, and the hand warmers are a joke on all of them, they do not last, they burn out fast and are costly to replace just for the part
Plastic tabs under hood for the control cables are cheap and will break. Now you need a new new hood replacement. I've nothing but trouble with my model st 227; everything from recall on drive belt; electric starter failure to wheel drive. Mine must have been made on Mon; a lemon for sure!

On year 6 with mine! 100 ft of driveway in eastern canada! Reverse does stink, as well as sometimes ,not often, delays going into gear. I will say the main pulley loosened off on winter 2 and caused a bit of damage , must have been assembled crappy. Other than a couple belts at the start of purchase because of my inexperience and I upgraded the composite shoes to metal, it has got me threw hundreds of cm of snow. May have to go out during and after the storm to get best results but hey I'm no pussy! Happy clearing all! And ps my shute works fine side 2 side but freezes when angling up or down.

Mine started surging after a year cleaning out the carb for this thing is hell. Maintenance is a problem with this thing. Find one that makes it easy for you to work on snowblowers have to be tuned every season. This is a huge problem thank me later.
In my experience snowblowers are useless... in the interior the snow is too light and powdery to stay put, and here on the coast when we get it, it turns to slush right away or if freezing it turns to ice. Now that shuttle thing you were using is an entirely different story, ingenious rig those are !
im kinda wishing KUBOTA bring back there walk behind snowblowers again what they used have back then from a 9.6hp to a 23.4hp walk behind gas/diesel blowers and 3600 rpms
most of the winter I could go without one, have for the last 12 years, planning to get one for those blizzards that come through the snow belt, I guess it doesn’t matter now with COVID but there’s usually a few bad storms where you need to go out several times with a shovel throughout the day. With a Snowblower you can just do it once… a lot less work, and when the plow come through, if you don’t get to it right away, it turns to hard snow or ice pretty quick in -20 or -30 Celsius.
TBH the one I get will be able to handle the hard stuff the plow leaves behind, that’s the biggest challenge, a bit of light snow is good exercise with a shovel but that hard stuff is a killer
I've had a Honda snowblower for 25yrs. Each season it's one pull to prime and 2nd pull starts it. Never fails always works. I did replace the pull cord after 20yrs. All our neighbours had huge snow blowers with those domes to shield the operator. After those broke down they all went out and bought Honda's.
The right snowblower is far from useless.
Keep that up before you know it your trousers will fall down.

Yes, reverse is too slow, chute direction is not precise ( sloppy ) the engine choke control is not user friendly ( should be a simple lever, on or off, not twist of a knob,.... which knob!! )
Needs a little more power in the engine for this about of snow, especially damp snow.
My little 5.5 HP Honda ( 1992 model year ) can and does 'blow circles' around this '7HP x 22 inch " Husqvarna.

You blow in 4 inches of snow and you don't even cut half a strip. Is that a snow blower of a toy ? Push it full nozzle in 12 inches of snow then make a review.

Hi. I didn't want to offend you but I'm thinking about buying one of those. So I wanted a real test with lots of snow. Living in Canada...... well you know the rest. Cheers buddy.
Husqvarna has no clue who their dealers and servicing dealers are. Put in my zip code, and a bunch of hardware stores that do NOT sell the brand pop up (never sold the brand), along with 2 service centers that closed three years ago. The website help? Good luck with that, the problem that I had has no 'links', so if you plan to use that website, make sure that when you break the snow blower, you break something that has a link to it (lol), because if you don't, forget getting a fix before winter is over. Bottom line, you will NOT be able to talk to anyone. Customer service is non-existent, best thing to do is avoid this brand period, whether it is a snowblower, motorcycle, or a hand held feather duster. Nothing but headaches trying to solve a problem or troubleshoot it.

Worst snowblower I’ve ever owned . Discharge shoot control cables freeze up constantly . All the plastic in the console that the control levers are mounted on and routed through have broken on me leaving the controls not working . Plastic for critical parts in a machine meant to run in extreme cold is ridiculous. Also the spring hook that’s hooked to the drive pulley broke on me rendering the machine dead with no drive in the middle of my driveway . I had to pull the whole machine apart to get at this spring and fix it . This was only the 3rd season of use.
I’ve also had the drive and auger belts slip and glaze the belts far too often .
And finally .. the plastic skid shoes wear very fast . Sure they are cheap and easy to replace .. but why not just use steel shoes like they always have in the past .
It’s got a lot of bells and whistles for the money, and is great when it’s new and everything is working .. but that doesn’t seem to last very long .
One good thing about I will say about the machine is the motor is strong and starts very easily . Starts first pull even in -30 temps.
My next snowblower will be a Honda . Sure they are twice the price .. but they are 10 times the machine. No more plastic and belt drives for me.
I had the plastic console break as well. Very poorly made.
They are crap I bot one brand new never worked wright .And go to the delier all you get is run around and how much it will cost you$$$$$ STAY A WAY
