Man. Just had a weird day, laughing all day. Confirmed a long lost love for my first and only truck. A seriously abused and tested '87 XE 2.4 4x4. So capable where it mattered. Starting and turning the wheels outta the bush. It's been so long that youtube didn't exist when I sold it and your clip is the first Nissan ANYTHING I've ever seen on a computer screen! Sick. Just a huge money pit of whatever sick. I hope you take that build mentality far.
im using my girls account right now but i just got done building the same motor just not turboed they are super easy to do i did with my neighbor and a cheap box of tools from craftsman so its a peace of cake lol
this should have been an option available from Nissan directly. i cant imagine how many more of these trucks would have been sold. i have an 87 with the V6 and i can only dream about how quick this one is compared to a regular v6 hardbody.
@baytwnpelly Thanks! the truck used the factory rear piece of the 2 piece drive shaft, the front section had to be shortened for the Borg Warner T5. It is still the factory rear housing, but it has had 3 center sections with differing gear ratios. It holds up fine... until you add any traction!! If I were to do it again ,I would get the Dana style rear end from a 4wd or the HUGE rear end in the 4wd Pathfinders and use them instead.
@Grainsauce Thanks. When I first put that in it was still 4cyl. and I would drive around at night just to watch the dash!!! Almost wrecked a few times!
@getthehellout2 Thanx! The dash cluster and the engine were out of an 85 nissan 300zx! I bought the hood at a Minitruckin' Nationals in 1999, in Gatlinburg Tn. Shogun custom fiberglass i think? He had a booth at the show.
4 minutes of my life I wish I could get back. instead of walking around a hardbody, which we all know what they look like, try driving it, you know, so we can see the point of the swap.
I'm the original owner/builder, I sold it to Mark 2 years ago or there about. So I hope they can make a deal! I would like to see this thing live on! AND MORE VIDS!!!!
@onefast87 Hardbodys are the same as pathfinders from the doors forward of the same year. But I used the entire vg30et engine, manifolds, and exhaust and moved the engine forward about 1.5 inches to clear the crossover pipe that connects the pass and driver manifold behind the engine. The vg30et engine uses staggered engine mounts (because of the turbo placement) so I just fabbed them both instead of trying to use a factory position for the six cyl.Mine was a 4cyl, so mounts fabbed
@MrVelozity It actually is a 92 pathy engine, with the turbo and electronics from a 300zx. the stock 300 zx was 205@ 8.0 compression and 7 lbs of boost. the pathy motor is 9.2:1 compression and I run 10 lbs of boost, so probably around 250 or less! but the truck is really light and it feels like more!
@red95xe Yes, the driveshaft is 2 pcs, i had to have the front pc shortened at a driveshaft shop, and rebalanced. In Chattanooga TN. I used and recommend Chattanooga Driveline Service, Remember that i also used a T-5 Borg-Warner trans from the 300zx turbo, so yours may need to be lengthened instead.
Nice looking truck I've got a 87 Hardbody working on putting a VG30DE non turbo out of a 93 300zx with transmission so main thing how hard was it for you to wiring up the cluster and making everything work good being my motor I've got in the truck will be in my 85 720 when it gets rebuilt.Still a good looking truck love it.
@johnbaker103 Made them, used the lowers from the 4cly, and the upper from the 6cyl. driver side mounts to the 3 bolts on the steering box because of the turbo!
@torvadezzie Thanks! I've just recently sold the truck!! I guess I'm getting older, I drove that thing for 4 years with no air, then it I just had to have it. There was no room for power steering on account of the turbo being so close to even a non power steering sector... The rear rollpan is a metal piece from Sir Micheal's in any Minitruckin magazine.
@SwishaHouse7777 That was my next project on the truck when I sold it! The new owner got 3 300zx digital clusters and a 95 complete dash and interior parts. It looked like it would be a decent project, but anythings' possible with a Dremel and epoxy!!
Hey how did you do this?? did you swap a 300zx vg30et moter or what? I have a 1990 nissan SE-V6 2WD with cold air intake, exhaust and some other stuff I have always wanted to turbo my hardbody PM or somthin man
@ghettobraden You are exactly right!! The most rare, and toughest (IMO), is the Dana style rear. It has an inspection cover, easier to see what damage you just did! and still medium size to fit under a lowered truck bed without cutting the floor. I put a 95 Pathy r200 rear in another truck that was as low as the turbo truck, ... AND LOST 2" of travel from the housing size!! Also whatever rear you use, The Pathy rear sway bar is worth the time to swap and its pretty easy, and cheap!!
Does the swap drops right in or you go yo private stuff ?? someone told me got to move the turbo cus it hits the steering box ?? IM planing on doing the same to mine I Got a 1991
@rytheman666 quite a few!!... the frame on the driver's side had to be notched to clear the turbo, engine mounts fabricated, trans crossmember fabricated, wiring was ok... just alot of research, rear driveshaft shortened, various other little things that don't show up until its actually in there!... and then I wanted to hide all the wiring under the hood--that took forever!!!!
This is bad ass! Love the dash. 300zx humm was the motor an easy swap? What about the rearend? Have seen 300 rear end swap also cant remember where just something u never forget seeing
@red95xe Are you sure that your trans is a Borg? I've never seen a Borg in any truck. Every clutch job I have ever done from the 720 series to the Frontier has been a AISIN (brand name-actually built by Toyota!) one piece transmission, 2 or 4wd, 4cyl or 6cyl. You can tell the difference very easily, the BorgWarner has a removable bellhousing(4 bolts on the outside) and the AISIN is a one piece design, bellhousing is cast together.Turbo 280zx and 300zx were it. Car trans have higher 1st
no hub swap, nissan 6 lug same as chevy 6 lug (or caddy) just have to have the center of the wheels machined to fit the pilot. I just liked the wheels and fender trim back then. The truck had been dailyed for 8 years before this video, and had been through multiple engine/trans/wheel/dash/ride height combos through the years. kinda miss the little thing, sold it right after the vid.
It wasn't too bad-if you read back through the posts you may get an idea- I'm pretty sure that there is already a hardbody with a vg30dett on You Tube. I'd find it and see if he (or maybe she!!) would help with some tips!
@mxmang You are sooo right!!!! That was so frustrating! they kept falling out of my hand! Before that I ran into " how do you shut your hood with only one hand while the other is holding a camera?!!! Try it, you have to use your head...Literally! lol I think I will have an assistant when I start putting vids of my new project on here- 92 Lexus SC 400 single turbo!!
@jpmanyhearts its the vg30et single overhead cam, although the DE (dual overhead cam) will bolt to the trans, if it was originally a v6, its wider than the single overhead cam, but should be plenty doable!! search CZcams... seems like I've already seen one done!
@llpaul671ll Hey!!! You should try to hold a camera, juggle keys, and keep the wife from finding out where her camera is... ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!! (lol!) Thanx for the comments everyone. Next up is a 2000 Dakota with a 5.7 Hemi!!
Nothing bolts in, the cluster is a smooshed triangle shape and the hardbody dash is rectangle, the speedo cable on the 300z setup is half and half-cable to a speed sensor- that wires to the dash, that is what i went with- also the dash cluster itself had 3 connectors with 24 wires each-72!!! thats almost as much as the whole injection on the motor!!
Thanks for taking the time to say hello. I've sold this one years back and have since gone to the dark side- TOYOTA LEXUS. Still miss this one though!
im using my girls account right now but i just got done building the same motor just not turboed they are super easy to do i did with my neighbor and a cheap box of tools from craftsman so its a peace of cake lol
Sick truck nice quality work good job.love the instrument panel .
This truck is very unique and I'm sure It's fast. Nice clean job on the swap
All those keys...are you a janitor?
Oh my god you put in digital z31 gauges, you are my hero
this should have been an option available from Nissan directly. i cant imagine how many more of these trucks would have been sold. i have an 87 with the V6 and i can only dream about how quick this one is compared to a regular v6 hardbody.
that's sweet! :D i have a 300zx turbo, myself, and im going for the same blue look you have on the engine
Thumbs up if everyone here want's him to make a how to video from start to finish lol
Thats badass, gives me an idea for a pre-runner
Very nice! I was hoping for a ride along video, I'll check out your other vids. Nice work though. Looks clean.
if my hardobody wasnt my only way to work i want to do the same thing. this truck is sick!
very clean build
great clean build
thats one nice sleeper right there!
@Grainsauce Thanks. When I first put that in it was still 4cyl. and I would drive around at night just to watch the dash!!! Almost wrecked a few times!
Nice... that is my dream but a 1992 king cab
@getthehellout2 Thanx! The dash cluster and the engine were out of an 85 nissan 300zx! I bought the hood at a Minitruckin' Nationals in 1999, in Gatlinburg Tn. Shogun custom fiberglass i think? He had a booth at the show.

See above
Hi, I love what you did to the hardbod and would love some information on how to do my hardbody with that particular swap...
@shagynajera thanks for the comment! here in Ga. we just got running water, Caddy wheels were the next best thang! (lol!)
Nice job!.
I'm the original owner/builder, I sold it to Mark 2 years ago or there about. So I hope they can make a deal! I would like to see this thing live on! AND MORE VIDS!!!!
hey nice truck i wana know were u got the dash board from
I love this truck... So sick...

truck is pretty awesome with that swap i got 89 with v6 also would u know what injector circuit code cause be ?
@MrVelozity It actually is a 92 pathy engine, with the turbo and electronics from a 300zx. the stock 300 zx was 205@ 8.0 compression and 7 lbs of boost. the pathy motor is 9.2:1 compression and I run 10 lbs of boost, so probably around 250 or less! but the truck is really light and it feels like more!
@xlr8x2 how difficult was it to get the crossover pipe to fit, and also the turbo to clear the motor mount on the drivers side?
@red95xe Yes, the driveshaft is 2 pcs, i had to have the front pc shortened at a driveshaft shop, and rebalanced. In Chattanooga TN. Nice Ride....
super nice man

Nice truck
Where did you get the instrument cluster I'm looking for one like that
muscle & beautiful !
VG30ET=230hp
Vg30 on a hardbody. Makes sense being that engine and chassis were made around the same time.
what are the specs on your swap, im thinking of doin the same thing. in my 90 d21
cool and clean.
where did you get your digi cluster and what year 300zx did that motor come out of
@SwishaHouse7777 That was my next project on the truck when I sold it! The new owner got 3 300zx digital clusters and a 95 complete dash and interior parts. It looked like it would be a decent project, but anythings' possible with a Dremel and epoxy!!
is this like a pathfinder, or the engine bay different?? I know the VG30ET manifolds don't fit in a pathfinder, how did you get around this?
nicely done...how much horse power does it put out?
Hey how did you do this?? did you swap a 300zx vg30et moter or what? I have a 1990 nissan SE-V6 2WD with cold air intake, exhaust and some other stuff I have always wanted to turbo my hardbody PM or somthin man

Was this truck in TN? Think my brother tried to buy one like this
Clusters out of a z31 300zx
Does the swap drops right in or you go yo private stuff ?? someone told me got to move the turbo cus it hits the steering box ?? IM planing on doing the same to mine I Got a 1991
@Thinker669 only a certain model had the pathfinder frontend most 89's had the normal sealed beam frontend
@BoobyMcDoogle Thank you !!! I like them so much I almost wrecked driving around watching them!!(lol)
How did you retrofit 300zx dash lol
This is bad ass! Love the dash. 300zx humm was the motor an easy swap? What about the rearend? Have seen 300 rear end swap also cant remember where just something u never forget seeing
is that the factory instrument panel?
im assuming the dash wasnt "plug and play" what did you have to do to get that to work? thanx
@peacelovers23cafe Thanx, kinda miss it sometimes!
How do u remove the original cluster??
that is a cool speedo
aside from the wheels that thing is killer
that truck is so sick man, makes me miss my old turbo B. auto or standard?
@JCthaballa Yes!
Nice Truck Man Where did you get the knew dash cluster at i am builkding a 91 xcab and cant find any digital gauges. Any help would be appreciated.
That's a digital dash from a z31 300zx. Didn't come in all of them, but the three 300zx's I've owned had them, they were just super finicky.
@WestFOLax23 If it was turbo, then it did when it was new, with factory boost settings!
@crue313 Yes, for a n 85 300zx turbo
very nice
How come for 1989 the D21's got composted headlights and then in 1990 they went back to Sealed beam highlights?
what kind of engine is that ?
@xzavier72707 Thanx ! work in progress!
IS THIS THE VG30 DETT OR THE VG30 ET ?
@red95xe Are you sure that your trans is a Borg? I've never seen a Borg in any truck. Aside from the wheels and the chrome, this is an awesome little truck! I figure the wheels are there because you did a hub swap?

Dash comes from a 300zx same as the engine
fuckin nice dude its clean as hell nice job
is the motor from a z-31 300z?

what kinda dash set up is that?
can i fit a rb26 engine in a hardbody?
I'm building 94 hardbody and putting a vg30et in it and was wondering how you wired in the EFI.
All hot girls are hereee => twitter.com/aa2795e54188fb74c/status/801992405775826944 1989 nissan hardbody turbooo trucсk

nice!!!!!!
What's kinda hood is that
what model did you get the digital dash from?
Santana T. The gauges came from a 85 300zx turbo same car as the motor and trans
check out the other vids, and there's not another hardbody with that dash, vg30et, and t5 transmission- that's actually completed.
+xlr8x2 you used a t-5 transmission? like a mustang t-5 right?
+Levi Baker yes, the turbo versions of the z31,and 280zx came with t-5 trannys factory.
im really thinking about swapping a vg30dett into a hardbody either that or a rb26dett
@llpaul671ll Hey!!! You should try to hold a camera, juggle keys, and keep the wife from finding out where her camera is... ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!! (lol!) Thanx for the comments everyone. Next up is a 2000 Dakota with a 5.7 Hemi!!
where did you get the dashboard lights?
The gauges came from a 85 300zx turbo same car as the motor and trans

Yo my man where did u get the digital dash from please lmk
83 to 89 300zx
@@xlr8x2 is there a lot of wiring to be done
