I always feel so bad for the mother in this movie. The recap doesn't show that she DID try to talk about it with other people but they essentially ignored her. She carries so much guilt over something that she tried to stop and only failed because she wasn't taken seriously.
I have this feeling that this recap has a misogynistic undertone in the sense that it phrased it as she *knew* it was her fault instead of pointing that she *thought* it was her fault.
@@girlie294girlie I agree. Why is the father who bought a dangerous weapon for a clearly troubled child not treated like a villain? It's not like the mother set up the target and cheered him on as he was literally training to kill people!
@@girlie294girlie🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Did you miss that she was incredibly unreliable?
That she thinks her newborn was crying on purpose to upset her?
That she minimized breaking his arm?
That instead of telling the doctor that he was in noisy situations, she lied and said he might be deaf because of his own crying as a baby?
@@elvispressplay7735Both parents barely parented him and contributed to his mental illness through PPD (not her fault) and abuse and neglect.
Ezra Miller was definitely the right choice to play Kevin.
One thing that I don’t agree with in this summary is that Eva pretended nothing was wrong with her son. I didn’t get that from her when I watched it. She knew something was wrong and wanted to find him some help but her husband was the one who refused to believe anything was wrong with Kevin. I’m sure that was due to Kevin acting completely different around his dad.
Right
The mom deserved better😢. She was as much a victim, I wish the community had some compassion for her
The kid was a born psychopath , it was never the mothers fault.
Wrong, the mom didn't raise that kid right in this movie, the mom has responsibility on that tragedy.

It enrages me that it is so normalized to blame all family tragedies on the mother. This should stop.
Everyone looks to mothers as the primary parent so any blame automatically falls on her even though she had no role in the crime.

She did care she did attempt to tell her husband. She knew something was wrong with her son. Her husband ignored her.
Her husband simply enjoyed being a father in the most blithely joyful way possible without thinking to address the issue. He never ran out of excuses for his son's shitty behaviour.
The scary truth of it all is that there are so many kids like Kevin in the world. They are quiet, smart, undiagnosed and planning a horrible tragedy.
I will never ever understand why an entire community hates the mother like it's her fault... He took everyone EXCEPT for his mother.. She lost her husband and her child at the hands of her other and these disgusting people torment her like she doesn't lose her entire immediate family....
It's called misogyny and sexism
@@FC-hj9ubWrong, it has nothing to do with misogyny or sexism. It's because she is the only person left from that family, the family of the killer, everyone is gonna put their anger on her. And a lot of people are gonna think that she raised him like that and it is her fault, that's what a lot of people do to parents of killers who made a massacre. Don't know why the recap was saying things like "she knew she deserved it/it was her fault" "she should have noticed/done something sooner." She noticed a long time ago something was wrong, but her husband didn't listen to her and doctors telling her there is nothing wrong with her son. Her husband just ignored her concerns and even told her she should 'get help'.
Society does not look kindly on mothers who son was a school shooter. The film is a good example of why more and more women are choosing to be childfree. You can end up with a fucked up kid and the mother is who is going to get blamed and penalized heavier than the father. There are as list of penalties that come with motherhood and the cons out weigh the pros.
This recap sucks cause it's AI...even worst the literal title of the movie is "We Need to Talk About Kevin".
People should watch the actual movie, and I also agree with your comment, mothers are blamed for when the father's leave, when they're single mom's trying their best, they're blamed for everything. Dammed if you do, Dammed if you don't.
@@birdsascarnageagreed watching the movie is better, but the book is twice better.
Fuckin AI. I hope people can't make money off these terrible videos.
This is really very disturbing movie. That boy should be charged as an adult. No special treatment for age. He caused the suffering of so many families and he doesn’t deserve a break at all. She should’ve divorced her husband long time ago. She should’ve left that boy to his dad and walked away with her daughter at least for safety. Obviously the dad is blind of his don’s faults and never believed her. He had it coming. And she should’ve lived as far as she can from the father and son.
The mother tried for years to tell people that something was wrong. Blaming mothers for everything can be laid at the feet of Freud et al.
If child becomes successful : " His father raised him right. "
If child goes the wrong way : " His Mom didn't raise him right. "

So you teach your kid how to cook and if they put a house in fire or stab others then would that be your fault. The son was clearly manipulating the father. It's esair to accept that an adult is over reacting rather than a child manipulating and being evil

we need to talk about kevin. the book is great too. by lionel shriver@@Nativ3_K
I like this film because it explores the many factors that led to the tragedy:
1. Kevin clearly being born a psychopath
2. His father’s disbelief and failure to discipline.
3. His mother’s lack of love/maternal instinct towards him.
4. His easy access to weapons.
Blame is almost always shifted on the mother, but this shouldn’t always be so.
Should have gotten some secret camera and recorder. And lol at him getting humbled by prison life. Bro thought he was the king of manipulation but in reality he was just a edgy paycho teen.
Ezra is a creepy as Kevin irl. Yikes
so Ezra was the ideal actor to play the role
It was not the moms fault at all. She never felt motherly towards him bc he born a monster and she knew it deep down.
You sure?
I am @@Oceanwaves7
I wouldn't say 'monster' because that's vague but yes, there was something wrong with Kevin. Perhaps he was a psychopath.
There could be some paranormal explanations too. The mother could sense his bad energy, father refused to listen to her because Kevin put up a façade, so that the parents won't team up against him.
It wasn't at all the poor mother's fault that Kevin was born with bad psyche.
It's a movie....
So right
She was going through post partum. She needed so much help but didnt get any
That guy had a problem and it was ignored by the father due to blinded luv

Ezra Miller is almost as disturbing as the character he played.
True
Eva DIDN'T ignore his behavior and pretend everything was ok. She TRIED talking to people about it, especially her dumbass husband. He completely disregarded her, he was horrible to her.
I dont get the ending. The son was obviously a psychopath. Why is it still painting it as if it is her fault?
Society be damn
My only daughter is like that. In the sense that since she came back into my life after an year away she always hated me. It been more than 10 years she is 16 and still hates me. I have accepted it and I only do my fatherly duties without expecting anything but hate from her. It's painful but that's life.
Talk to her why she hates you and that you are willing to be better. Fathers usually do not understand what females feel and their responsibilities. Kindly, have a one-on-one talk with her, probably take her out in a picnic. Do not be ashamed, shy or embarrassed to ask her out, dear father. It is high time that you understand your daughter what she is going through for future prosperity. All prayers and love to you and your family.
This movie is an extreme example of a child carrying malicious hate towards a caregiver or others for no apparent reason. It does happen. Generally speaking though, there is a tangible reason why your child behaves the way they do or feels the way that they feel. Most adults in my life do not take responsibility for the things they have done to make me feel a certain way and ‘accepting it’ instead of taking time to understand what you have done and rectifying it is just one of those things that makes me hate them even more. It just shows how little a person cares about how they treat others.
I feel your pain, my daughter hates me as well. I admit I wasn't a perfect mother, but that child made me absolutely miserable. I tried hard to change things between us. She use to tell friends and family that I didn't love her. It wasn't true I just couldn't stand her manipulative and controlling malicious behavior. I hope one day your daughter and you will find common ground.

This movie took me several attempts to sit through. Ever since I was a kid I knew I wasn’t right in the head, and while now in my 20s I can say that I’ve never done anything like what Kevin did, I think back a lot to the times as a kid I would have these types of thoughts and how I’d try to tell people but they never really seemed to care.
Honestly I think back on the choices and outcomes I’ve made and had in life up to this point and just marvel at how wrong things could’ve gone for me. It’s honestly a reason why I have an inability to form strong relationships with people, just living with the thought that one day I could be like this guy.
If you’re feeling like me, please get help.
No you're not like him because you overcame those feelings or atleast you have the awareness of it and doing your best to not let them win over you. And i hope that you do find some one who would understand you and help you through it.
Keep getting help and support. You’re important. It’s hard to make connections but maybe volunteering or a church will give you a community. Life has good parts.

The deep nightmare of any mother .... to give birth to a psycopath 😢
Its very important to be very observant of kids especially those with psychopatic tendencies...once recognized early, medication can go a long way....children always have a way knowing when feelings are sincere...they are sensitive like that. She was probably the only one he sincerely loved😅

This recap is horrible. none of this was the mother's fault. kevin was a sadistic psychopath who wanted to torture his mom. NOTHING was eva's fault.
It's really sad but I hope everyone who watched pay attention to their children's behavior in order to prevent a similar situation.
She tried her best to love her child but even if he didn't felt as if his mother loved him, he knew that his father and little sister does and he end up taking their lives. After all his actions his mother ended up suffering, her life filled with regrets and self blame.
I use to think something really terrible have to happen to someone for them to be a psychopath but some are just born psychopaths. And if the father saw what the mother was experiencing (even though he hid it very well from his father), they could have gotten him help to suppress his psychopathic tendencies. Can you imagine your child ending your life with the gift you gave him.
I wush Eva had left. Taken her new baby daughter and left that evil thing with his Dad.
I've seen three or four court cases where mothers had to testify about their killer sons, and I always think of this movie. What would you do if kinda you knew your son was off in the head even when he was 5 years old??
Counseling, family counseling, tests, everything has to be on record especially as early as u can get it
They still have psych wards and schools for trouble kids. I don’t think every child should be in there but if there’s clear signs then they shouldn’t be around society
She took the child to a doctor when he was young and doctor said he was fine. The son was fine with her husband. I think the mother just thought the son kinda felt that she didn't like him at first and because of he didn't like her either. I thunk she thought he hates her rather than thinking he had mental issues
This movie has always stayed with me
So, is it some sort of sickness? It doesn't make sense for someone to hate without a justifiable cause.
Some people are literally just born evil. Ever hear the phrase “the bad seed”? (There’s a great movie that’s named that as well about a crazy kid, for no reason, with loving parents)
due to the fact that society imposes a stereotype of the ideal child, they do not always accept that there are truly evil children
We’ll never know. It’s just a movie
Powerful movie, felt unbelievably sorry for that poor mother.
This movie was so fucked and the mother tried so hard she was not in denial of that demon spawn
The whole situation was so complicated. Eva was a first time mother who didn't want to be a mother. She did tried but kevin as a baby can sense that she hated it and grew up to antagonized her. I couldn't blame eva, how do you tried to love your kid, when your kid throws it back at you all his life? Why does kevin hate his mom so much?

Love this film. The book is good as well but hard to read
The movie is titled "We need to talk about Kevin". This is what the mother was saying to her husband. The husband/father was the one who was blind to his wife's problems with the boy. Not much of a partnership or friendship in that marriage after the son was born.

How is the mother even remotely responsible
My opinion of this movie? Why the f**k did a juvenile who committed horrific crimes was not treated as an adult and given life imprisonment without the possibility of parole or death sentence?
It's pretty clear that depsite being a sadistic psychopath I think he did it just to get his mum's attention cause I'm pretty sure he knew that his mother never loved him and was jealous that his sister grew up with the motherly love he never got despite being loved by his father it was the father's obliviousness and eva's ignoring him that enabled him to believe he could get away with anything even when he was being arrested, but when we see him during the visisting hours he's learned the hard way that it isn't the case and the worse is yet to come when he turns 18 but at least they are now slowly building a mother/son relationship.
She didnt deserved it. She tried to prevent it. She tried to tell the dad but he ignored

Where kevin was a little boy and they were talking about the new baby breaks my heart and i believe was a pivotal point in the story. He says "just because youre used to something doesnt mean you like it" then follows up with "youre used to me". That moment he needed his mother to tell him she loves him. It couldve changed a lot.
