Heat is also a key to making dirty down rust activate the way it's supposed to.
I go through this entire ritual of decay with a hair dryer at hand to heat the model up, then put the paint on, hair dry it, add water to the brush to spread it around, hair dry it and repeat as often as you want.
I bet that painting mat is now about as volatile as rechargable satchel charges were with GSC (But the effort/result-ratio is seriously off the scale as always)

If you need something really odorless the oil paint company Gamblin makes an odorless thinner called Gamsol. I can't detect any smell from it at all.

FWIW I think sponging on white works because it looks like the grime has been wiped/brushed/blown off in a natural way. Brown/silver are chipped paint, but white is "chipped" weathering. \shrug

What do you have covering the table you paint on? Is it just brown paper?
@@magnetic_heart yeah I just go to Home Depot and get a huge roll of unspecified brown paper, I actually have no idea what it’s called but I think there’s a lot of like comparable ones you can get from most hard ware stores
