'God Bless the Casuals' The point about the Stompa. That's why you need two. My speculative Dread Mob meme list: 2 Meks, 2 Stompas, and an absolute horde of battle-line Grots. In my head, the two respective Ork Stompa crews think they are fighting each other, and the opponent's army is just getting in the way. 😊

I really appreciate the long term thinking in this advice. These armies tend to be huge projects, it's way more important how it'll last than what's hot this month.
Yeah I feel like it used to be understood that painting/buying an army was a massive long term project, but with painting becoming easier and easier (contrast paints slap chop airbrushing etc) and the game evolving faster than ever, it’s really easy to forget this is still a huge concern and that we’re building very large collections of physical models we have to paint ourselves and not playing league of legends/ just waiting for the next patch to go live
Always been interested in starting to play 40k. I love the lore and have read books, played videogames, etc. and just started picking up some models and trying my hand at painting. My buddy does Space Marines and my other buddy does Necrons, I was trying to decide between Orks and Guard and ended up going with Orks and picked up a box of the old Boyz and a box of Meganobz to start painting. This video was super helpful regarding where to go from here! Thanks.
I actually love that your painting vids are majority airbrush, I really enjoy being able to find ways to make half if not more of my army painting just airbrushing. I would kill to see some dark bronze/“grimdark” sisters of battle speed painting for inspo for my sisters army!! Killer content as always
As a forever Stompa girl(it's what got me into orks in the first place) I'd like your take on how to play with it. What is best to support it, and all that. For stubborn people like me who refuse to see reason 🤣
In my experience you need to take a gorkanaut (and a mek for each walker) to run distractions. Run the gorkanaut up the board so theyre scared of it and spend the first shooting phase on it, likely killing the gorkanaut but hopefully by then the stompa is in position to shoot everything off the board
Less than 3 minutes in and you've explained my situation to a tee. I am the "play a game once every 6 months", kids, work, life get in the way... And yes, I do live vicariously mainly though Warhammer CZcams videos 😭

In the "More Painting Advice" timestamp section you mentioned "dry brushing goes a long way." Could you make a video or just a comment expanding on that? Right now I use contrast/speed paints for volume units (Boyz + grots). I try to put more effort and be more deliberate with highlights and such on character models/leaders. What dry brushing techniques/colors (ork specific) do you use to achieve better results? Edit: I also picked up some vibrant inks cause I've seen you and other Warhammer CZcamsrs use them, are there instances you use them and how/why? Edit to the edit: gameplay wise, a series on all the different ork matchups and how you play into them would be cool, plus it would lead to a pretty long standing series ;p
Started Warhammer exactly a year ago today, now the new editions come out im thinking of going into beast snaggas, not sure if they'll be good but I'm sure they'll definitely be fun, just the idea of the hit and run strategy you can do with the return to strategic reinforcement stratagem and the reroll on charge for prey.
@@billiondollarclownfarm I think squigs will be fairly balanced with points this edition since there's a new beast snagga combat patrol, they need to make a squig only unit like some of the ones in AOS, bomb squig battleline would be good, basically just Gretchin but swap the command point ability for deadly demise and more movement
Hoorah, for finding someone with my same brainrot! Im new and just finished building several boxes of orks. Have yet to paint or even play but i still want to have at least 1 of every model eventually collecting 1 of every GW ork ever released.
great video man, the best part about orks is that there are a bunch of playstyles (not always viable obviously) but the core design of orks, punch a lot and sometimes hard, is kind of static most the time so its always gonna be a safe bet with trukks, warboss, boyz and gretchin which are just bread and butter so even if the orks get into a worse spot, you know what they will ideally be about. and thats the case for most armies really but since orks dont have super nuance its the most reliable. i love hearing you talk about orks, you're very passionate about them and you're a very easy and fun listen
Been amassing an all grot list maxing out grot tanks and mega grot tanks then found out dread mob was a thing a couple weeks after completion. Happiest day I've had in years.
Your orks are so sick compared to most I've seen. Reminds me of wow wod xpac orc clans. I've also got a brain problem with trying to collect everything lol. I've been slowly working on badmoons, snakebites, and goffs, eventually I want to do speed freeks, evil sunz, and deathskulls. Sad that we don't really seem to have clans anymore, but the detachments look amazingly fun !
I play narrative green tide. I’m talking 120 Boyz, max Warbosses, 60 Gretchen, nobz where I can. Literal numbers. It’s hilarious to just go full out, and makes for nice story telling. If I play guard it’s always fun to smash. If it’s against marines then I know where it’s going but it’s a laugh. Haven’t played Khorne yet. VENGENCE FOR YARRICK!!!
Just get practicing, try some things out. Worst case scenario you can remove the paint but in a squad on the table it doesn't matter that much if your painting isn't that good.
I’d love to see how you would paint an army without an airbrush. Especially how you’d do skin. Layering and highlighting Ork boy skin has been killing me
I've been thinking of running green tide with 4 groups of 20 Boyz using pain boys to keep them alive, ufthak Blackhawk for deep strike and a weird boy for warp shenanigans then grots for my cleanse and commandos with snikrot to also do some objective shenanigans
I’m the definition of person living vicariously through CZcams. Between a kid, my job and other hobbies I mostly just smoke weed and paint so I don’t wig out
lol thanks I think they have some play, they were significantly better in 9th (both speed mob and obviously freebooterz) but I think they’re a decent army still
Im one of those guys that can get a hold of minis, but cant find anyone within a reasonable distance to play with. Reasonable distance is an hour drive as i live in a very rural area. I want orks mainly cause i enjoy the build and painting part the most. I like the way goffs look and want to build a massive green tide, its just gonna takr time because kits aint cheap and i dont have enough teeth to pay off that debt lol.
I have a cheap airbrush and have watched videos on airbrushing but I rarely use it. I think my hangup is how to clean it after each use. Everyone shows the actual painting but not the aftermath. Maybe I clean it too thoroughly, because it makes airbrushing such a chore and I would almost always prefer to use a spray can or just paint with a brush. Maybe include that if you do a video? Like what is your cleaning/maintenance process between colors and between projects

i am a new player and bought 2 beast snagga combat patrols and one box of gretchen, a mozrog and painboss and so far this is ok for 1200 point games, aiming for some trukks and a killrigg now to go towards a 2k game

Pour one out for the grot tanks. I would’ve loved to have 8 of them rolling up behind my kustom build morkanaut rex(metal gear), and eventually my kustom built mad gork(mad stomp from armored core 6). Lootas are super fragile but really good at mowing down marines, if my Tsons friend can’t doom bolt them from across the table he’s losing at least 5 ish rubrics a turn

Tyler, long time fan. I noticed you have a great desert base look in your whole army shot. I'm trying to figure out how to do that for a Saracen army for SAGA. Any tips on achieving the look?
Yeah for sure! I used to use the AK interactive sands a lot, but they dry out super easy and I got frustrated with how poorly the containers seal. Would recommend those if you know that and are down to use them quickly/accept their shelf life isn’t great, but lately I’ve just been airbrushing some Averland sunset mixed with off white (monument hobby pale flesh but kind of doesn’t matter) over a dark brown base coat and it looks just as good to me. Medium brown or orange can make a good vignette for big bases too. I also drybrush a little off white mixed with a tiny amount of yellow at the end
So what if your buddies are inviting you to play in their 9th edition crusade for your first games of 40k? Now that 9th edition hasn’t been a thing people are actively talking about for about a year, what are things that are worth looking at in that edition that aren’t beastsnaggas?
deathskulls are fun! goffs are kind of default, nobz and meganobz are still great, boyz less so. zagstrukk is cool but less relevant in crusade because you can't level him, same with ghaz. if you want something really whacky you could try dreads with three kustom mega blasta and a single klaw in death skulls (better with index death skulls, codex loses re-roll 1/1/1). it's sort of a meme but probably fun for crusade. psychic awakening is also a ton of fun and i'd try to see if your friends let you use it, also a huge fan of the speed mob detachment from octarius.

I always get worried looking at 9th again because while I didn’t play it when it was out, I remember at the time nobody was running the stuff I thought looked fun/cool (Deff Dreads and Meganobz). Any advice on specifically if I wanted to run a freebooterz list for this scenario? Not being able to run Badruk feels kinda bad since he won’t level up. (honestly reading up deathskulls stuff on wahapedia is already making me feel better, this question is more of a curiosity thing)

Beginner air brusher here. Spend 3 min painting 10 models and it goes sooo well! Then spend the next 30 fixing a clog.
try doing a few then before it clogs throw thinner in it and dump it. then back to it.
Was a Space Marine player for 5th, 6th, 7th, then moved to Orks in 8th and have never looked back, love your vids to help me keep up during life

I would like to see a painting without an airbrush tutorial, I have been collecting orks for awhile now and am still terrified of painting
Just get practicing, try some things out. Worst case scenario you can remove the paint but in a squad on the table it doesn't matter that much if your painting isn't that good.

I've been thinking of running green tide with 4 groups of 20 Boyz using pain boys to keep them alive, ufthak Blackhawk for deep strike and a weird boy for warp shenanigans then grots for my cleanse and commandos with snikrot to also do some objective shenanigans

lol thanks I think they have some play, they were significantly better in 9th (both speed mob and obviously freebooterz) but I think they’re a decent army still
Im one of those guys that can get a hold of minis, but cant find anyone within a reasonable distance to play with. Reasonable distance is an hour drive as i live in a very rural area. I want orks mainly cause i enjoy the build and painting part the most. I like the way goffs look and want to build a massive green tide, its just gonna takr time because kits aint cheap and i dont have enough teeth to pay off that debt lol.
I’ve been playing Orks for years and years, so I don’t know why I watched this video, but I agree with basically everything.
I have a cheap airbrush and have watched videos on airbrushing but I rarely use it. I think my hangup is how to clean it after each use. Everyone shows the actual painting but not the aftermath. Maybe I clean it too thoroughly, because it makes airbrushing such a chore and I would almost always prefer to use a spray can or just paint with a brush. Maybe include that if you do a video? Like what is your cleaning/maintenance process between colors and between projects

i am a new player and bought 2 beast snagga combat patrols and one box of gretchen, a mozrog and painboss and so far this is ok for 1200 point games, aiming for some trukks and a killrigg now to go towards a 2k game

I would’ve loved to have 8 of them rolling up behind my kustom build morkanaut rex(metal gear), and eventually my kustom built mad gork(mad stomp from armored core 6). Lootas are super fragile but really good at mowing down marines, if my Tsons friend can’t doom bolt them from across the table he’s losing at least 5 ish rubrics a turn

Tyler, long time fan. I noticed you have a great desert base look in your whole army shot. I'm trying to figure out how to do that for a Saracen army for SAGA. Any tips on achieving the look?
Yeah for sure! I used to use the AK interactive sands a lot, but they dry out super easy and I got frustrated with how poorly the containers seal. Would recommend those if you know that and are down to use them quickly/accept their shelf life isn’t great, but lately I’ve just been airbrushing some Averland sunset mixed with off white (monument hobby pale flesh but kind of doesn’t matter) over a dark brown base coat and it looks just as good to me. Medium brown or orange can make a good vignette for big bases too. I also drybrush a little off white mixed with a tiny amount of yellow at the end

I'm not a fan of beast snaggas aesthetically. What would you replace the Beast Snagga Boyz with in the 1k safe list?
Literally anything, I think normal boyz would probably a lot be fine plus an enhancement. More meganobz or 5 nobz or 5 more Stormboyz would also work
So what if your buddies are inviting you to play in their 9th edition crusade for your first games of 40k? Now that 9th edition hasn’t been a thing people are actively talking about for about a year, what are things that are worth looking at in that edition that aren’t beastsnaggas?
deathskulls are fun! goffs are kind of default, nobz and meganobz are still great, boyz less so. zagstrukk is cool but less relevant in crusade because you can't level him, same with ghaz.
if you want something really whacky you could try dreads with three kustom mega blasta and a single klaw in death skulls (better with index death skulls, codex loses re-roll 1/1/1). it's sort of a meme but probably fun for crusade.
psychic awakening is also a ton of fun and i'd try to see if your friends let you use it, also a huge fan of the speed mob detachment from octarius.

Any advice on specifically if I wanted to run a freebooterz list for this scenario? Not being able to run Badruk feels kinda bad since he won’t level up.
