Learn How Body Language Effects Your Executive Presence
Jim Rohn once said, if you don't make a plan for your life and design your life, most likely you'll fall into somebody else's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Today we'll be focusing primarily on the outer aspects of executive presence. So what is executive presence exactly? They say you see it, you know it when you see it, and you feel it when it's missing.
It positively benefits every aspect of your lives. Now let me ask you something. How can a ship reach its destination if its captain can't communicate clearly with its crew and the crew doesn't trust the captain? You guys have probably heard that our communication is 7% words, 38% the tone of your voice, and 55% your body language, right? Finger pointing.
Don't you love it when people point their finger at you? Doesn't it make you feel good? No? It's, by the way, one of the most hated gestures. We want to avoid pointing our fingers at people. Bill Clinton, they worked with him for nearly, I think, eight, ten years trying to get him to learn to point with his thumb.
When people are feeling insecure, discomfort, this kind of thing, thumbs disappear. If you want to show that you're confident, demonstrate your thumbs. What does confidence, look like? Chin up, chest back, shoulders up, right? Here we got Schwarzenegger.
Obama was great at this. He's always got his chin up, all the time, and good old Trump there. If you're in charge and you're confident, you take your time.
Somebody's feeling comfortable or they're feeling stressed and not comfortable. So essentially leadership is more than keeping cool when the poop hits the fan. You get the idea? Here's a scary thought.
People make a decision whether they like you or not within a twelfth of a second. That means you've already decided, just like me, that you enjoy learning. Thank you very much. You've been a lovely audience.
