Beautiful version. People on here seem to think it is an either/or. It's not. Van Morrison did a beautiful job with his creation. The question is not which one is better. The question is did Colin do justice to Van's work? I believe he did.
I quite agree, I feel Colin did a killer rendition and it speaks volumes of his respect for Van The Man Morrison .. Sweet sweet ax playing by the young Colin. This old Man approves!!
Had the greatest music conversation with this gentleman in Fredericton driving from the Airport to downtown. Long Live Harvest Jazz and Blues. Long live Colin James.
I saw Colin live in concert many years back here in Vancouver and I remember it as being one of the most energized and electric concerts I've ever seen. Still to this day. This dedication/ rendition of an already beautiful song was knocked out of the park. Neither is superior and yet both are literally, Superior.
Impossible to say one is better than the other (Colin vs. Van). They are both versions of an amazing and timeless song. Thank God for great music in these crazy times..
So many have covered Van's amazing songs, yet few/none do the songs justice. Mr. James seems to have nailed it. An amazing cover! A great Saskatchewan boy does us proud!
Gimme the beat boys and free my soul, I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away! ~ Uncle Kracker HOLY COW!!! This song was on Majic 100 when they played it in 2006! Memories!!! Especially "Drift Away" by Uncle Kracker - what a spectacular coincidence!!
Discovered the Dave Fenley version first and then Van Morrison and now this! They're all great versions but each one brings something different to the table 👌
Why would anyone ever compare this with you know who…diff time diff place..diff version with one of our own… Canadians can be critical…but we’re kind as we critisize..lol..luv it..🇨🇦
...the beautiful thing is that any guitar player/musician can take a song and play it to their ability and create their own impression of the piece, usually in tribute to the original and very probably with great respect. People listening to the end product should not be so harsh as to decide who is better than the other; the value is in the treasure found...
This guy is so immensely talented and underappreciated. At first I thought it was Van Morrison, but after listening for a while, I know it had to be Colin James. He does Van justice, at the very least. I know Colin is playing guitar, but I wonder who is playing the mandolin?
I drove through a snow cloud this winter it was amazing ! How did I know it was snow cloud and not fog it was thicker and at the top of summit and it had just snowed ( mystic snow cloud ) lol God reminds me nature is everywhere!
God inspird this song! Love it God will blow that horn one day soon and I will go home. Home is were your heart is Jesus is were my heart is. I Love Jesus Christ AMEN
I'm not sure I prefer this to Van Morrison, it's difficult to ever say I could. But this is a miraculous cover, the vocals and guitar are exquisite. Nice photo montage too. I am a Colin James convert!
student council or whatever it was called in college, brought Colin to Humber College in Etobicoke back in '95-6. good times. good intimate kinda concert. miss those days
Hello AgentFok, I found Cantley QC and the Salette I found was in France. Are you originally from France? I am originally from Cardston, Alberta. It is the Mormon capital of Canada. There is a huge Mormon temple with the Rocky Mountains in the background. It's a beautiful place and most of my family is still there. I am happier in Quebec. I get to speak French. There are not a lot of French speaking people in Alberta.
for my friend who posted this rendition a little while ago, well, here's back a little taste of your own medicine Wendy Little don't dish out what you can't take back!! hahahhhahahah colin does a great accoustic version too. :):)
Collin has a great voice, and I love his touch on this song. Better, not better?? Who cares, right? It's a great job he did of a great song...peace to you, and I do NOT think U are an idiot ! Collin did a fine job !
Deciding who did the better version between Van and Colin is like trying to figure who did the better version of "Darllin" ...Frankie Miller or Johnny Reid
Beautiful version. People on here seem to think it is an either/or. It's not. Van Morrison did a beautiful job with his creation. The question is not which one is better. The question is did Colin do justice to Van's work? I believe he did.
just enjoy it.
I quite agree, I feel Colin did a killer rendition and it speaks volumes of his respect for Van The Man Morrison .. Sweet sweet ax playing by the young Colin. This old Man approves!!
Well said!
Amen. Both are on my regular playlist.
Absolutely 💯agree
"I want to rock your gypsy soul " says it all......Just a beautiful rendition. Sends chills up my spine....
I'm not much one for remakes, but Colin James absolutely nails this & does justice❤
Had the greatest music conversation with this gentleman in Fredericton driving from the Airport to downtown. Long Live Harvest Jazz and Blues. Long live Colin James.
You know those songs that instantly put a snapshot in your mind? This is one of them. *memories*
I saw Colin live in concert many years back here in Vancouver and I remember it as being one of the most energized and electric concerts I've ever seen. Still to this day. This dedication/ rendition of an already beautiful song was knocked out of the park. Neither is superior and yet both are literally, Superior.
With all due respect to Van Morrison, I love love LOVE what Colin James brings to this song. One of my all-time favourites. Thanks for this!
Saw him last night in Rochester an incredible rock and roll show and he closed with this.⭐brought me to tears.amazing.
Impossible to say one is better than the other (Colin vs. Van). They are both versions of an amazing and timeless song. Thank God for great music in these crazy times..
Given that Van Morrison is making songs protesting COVID restrictions, I feel much more vindicated in saying that Colin improved his song.
Im a Van fan but James really hits this one.Awesome version.
I have listened to this song I swear a million times!!!! By far my go to forever
Colin OWNS this song, hands down !!!!
Not many ..can do cover tunes justice....But Colin James is the exception.....just groove n here ...thank you Colin
It's all about Colin's voice in this version. He shows why he was nominated for vocalist of the year, when he is known as a guitarist.
Everything he does is great, he's so talented
I sometimes play this, when I'm down at the beach. It's the best song for there.
So many have covered Van's amazing songs, yet few/none do the songs justice. Mr. James seems to have nailed it. An amazing cover! A great Saskatchewan boy does us proud!
Heath Kondro is he from sask.
Drex Cote ye, from Regina

I love both versions of this great song
Doug Clark there are more than two, actually, but this version does surpass Van Morrison's original( though only slightly).
Agree, this version and Van s ... fantastic!!
Discovered the Dave Fenley version first and then Van Morrison and now this! They're all great versions but each one brings something different to the table 👌
That was an awesome rendition of that song Colin James, Thank you, just rocked my gypsy soul💜
Why would anyone ever compare this with you know who…diff time diff place..diff version with one of our own… Canadians can be critical…but we’re kind as we critisize..lol..luv it..🇨🇦

Growing up I always fell asleep to the foghorn... in certain months.... it always made me feel safe.... so awful when technology changed that.
Best cover of this song I have heard. Heard this live in Cornwall, Ontario and it was phenomenal.

student council or whatever it was called in college, brought Colin to Humber College in Etobicoke back in '95-6. good times. good intimate kinda concert. miss those days
Great version but Van still owns Into the Mystic.
Some songs can never be covered. There is soul in the original
Heard this on "Bones" and have saved it...beautiful...Grew up on shore of Lake Erie and 'member the fog horn.
We were borne before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won
As we sailed into the mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic
And when that foghorn blows
I will be coming home
And when the foghorn blows
I want to hear it
I don't have to fear it and I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And magnificently we will flow into the mystic
When that fog horn blows
You know I will be coming home
And when that fog horn whistle blows
I got to hear it
I don't have to fear it and I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will flow into the mystic
Come on, girl
Too late to stop now
