This game is a masterpiece, I have to respect the writers and all the work put into this, it's not just a horror game, but a reflection of each character and consequence. And it's not just a horror game, it's more about psychology than anything else

I like Emily the most, she is the bitchiest sadly but she was the reason the helicopters even came and she can be independent and smart when she needs to be. Very adaptable character like you mentioned. I do wish she was nicer to Matt, but she wouldn’t have the bitchy archetype then for the purpose of the game. Nice analysis! Loved the video (:

I am not trying to excuse Emily but in the end she did show she cared about Matt, but in her own way. If their relationship is high enough, in the end (if he dies) she does ask about matt if they found him, and regrets so much how she acted and admits "I was such a bitch maybe I could have helped him, maybe I could have saved him". If their relationship is high enough in the end (if he survives) she asks about him asking if he is okay and that she is worried about him, and she says ''I probably wasnt his favorite person for a couple of minutes but he knows how devoted I am to him, he knows, he said he knows right?''. I am not saying that her behaviour towards Matt was justified, it wasnt at all. I think she tries so hard to cover her emotions up by acting like she is cold and heartless. And they made a bonus chapter of Emily and Matt and their relationship which shows it wasnt that horrible and that they really cared about each other. And about the "cheating" the creators confirmed that she didnt cheat. Emily has some issues within herself which she tries to compensate with over confidence and bitchy behaviour.

There's a dlc scene where matt and emily both go and get emily's bag, emily apologizes shes "high maintenance" and "hard to handle" to matt and its a sweet part of the game :) you can tell Emily's actually a really nice person deep down

@@tinker_belle41she’s the developers favorite actually!! She is also the most well written in the game. Everything that is happened in the story tie down to Emily. Jess and Emily conflict, Mike and Emily story. She is also the who to put all the story of Hannah and Beth up together without Emily the game is very lack luster. She’s secretly a final girl along with Sam

i agree ! I feel like she really gets overhated :( like she can be annoying (depends on how you play her) but with the bite situations (with emily) people tend to blame ashley ?? wich is always confusing to me as mike was the one the shoot emily but gets no hate ?? Also she is really relatable like I would also scream and cry in her situation and I think most people would it is a shame that she indirectly kills chris if he decides to shoot her but understandable that she freezes shes a coward but like same lol so I really dont get why people hate her so much ? anyways sorry for typing an essay I just really like ashley as a character and it kinda makes me sad how much hates she gets in the fandom :(

This is a really awesome video, I agree with a lot you had to say in this whole thing although I think I can say I dislike Emily more than you. I found it really relatable though when you said "Until dawn is a game I can't stop thinking about" because I played this game a little over 2 years ago for the first time and since then I have played through it again and again and again, and when I'm not playing it I'm constantly thinking about it, it's been a seriously long time that a game has had this kind of impact on me. Either way I think you're pretty spot on with your analysis of each character, Mike seems to get a lot of hate from people but I definitely agree he went through the most change by the end of the game and I think that's why he's one of my favorites. Ashley is also one of my favorites but if I'm being honest I also find her adorable and someone I'd want to protect, plus I have a weakness for redheads. Anyway awesome video like I said, would love to see more like this.

I think the reason why Matt and Jessica have very little relivence and kind of come out of nowhere in the second half is because in what I think is the canon ending they die in the first half of the game, Emily dies half way through, Mike,Sam,Chris and Ashley make it out and Josh turns into a Wendigo

This video is really well done ! I really like your perspective on the game as a whole and the characteres :) This game is really a gem (even though some things are more on the bad side like matt and jessica being kinda pushed away :( and another thing that really bothers me is the fact that you cn get jessica more stripped dpwn if you play rigth as mike ?? which is really weird as she's barely an adult :/ I also saw while searching videos on the game a video guide to get her the least dressed that had like 3 million views which is really gross ) but overall this game is really great and the characters really shine through ! I specifically like ashley as a chraracter she can be very annoying but I relate to her alot lol. I really like how the game presents as very cliché typical horror story with stupid teenagers and a psycho killer with really cliché characters like the jock, the nerd, the mean girls etc... but later on breaks out of that mold and turns out to have a really fascinating story and character archs :D

My favorite is Emily. She isn’t nearly as bad and definitely nowhere near as useless as many says she is. She does nothing evil and most her actions are at least understandable, sometimes even justified. The one thing I definitely cannot defend is her treatment of Matt.
Sam is my second favorite. She’s written to be very likable and it works for me lol. She’s cool and chill. Has a very strong head in her shoulders.
I really like Matt. He’s a good dude. He’s a little whipped and very insecure but he has a good heart I feel. Also that bonus chapter that was cut gives him, Emily, and their relationship much needed layers.
Josh I like. I feel bad for him and his mental state gets progressively worse. It’s why I don’t fault him too much for what he does even if he what he does was very cruel…and targeted at the wrong people. It also sucks that there’s lines that suggests Chris knows about his condition but still attacks him(tho understandable) and allows Mike to beat on him.
Chris is cool. He’s a nerdy guy, a bit awkward, and can be a jerk but he’s got a good heart and never wants to hurt anyone. Even after all Josh does to him, he still risks his own life to attempt to save his. And if he comes back, he is just so drained for the rest of the game. It’s clear he’s way out of his element. He’s just a goofball who likes a good time then suddenly thrust into these situations.
Mike I don’t like. He’s a clown, make bone headed decisions, jump to strange conclusions, puts people in danger, and I’m pretty sure he has some sort of complex😂. I do not like him. His saving grace is his funny dialogue. That ending tho. Had he just stay put, the group wouldn’t be in danger or at least not in that bad of danger. As things stood, the only roaming wendigo was Hannah. Mike frees the others. I understand his mindset. The authorities in this world aren’t exactly the most reliable. After all, they failed the Washington girls. But Mike just has to be the big shot hero going on an ill advised mission, not even to save Josh, but to get the cable car key that he might not even have. Luckily he did have it on him but they don’t even use the cable car because the police picks them up(thanks to Emily lol)
Jess is a brat. I’m not a fan of her mostly because she betrays Emily😂. I mean, she came up with the prank on Hannah for Emily and she turns around and hooks up with her ex? That’s breaking code. And she is very unapologetic about it. Not saying Emily was right to start a fight, but I do understand why she probably couldn’t help herself 😂
I dislike Ashley most. She is a an annoying, hysterical, clown. She is a pick me all about self preservation. I heard her honesty even goes down should the player have her feel sympathy towards the Washingtons(not sure if it’s true). Ashley is a wolf in sheep’s clothing that can cause the deaths of two characters…in back to back scenes. But apparently Emily is the bad guy of the 8 protagonist.

Good analysis, you pinpoint well many important traits of the characters, as well as the situations in the game that made them grow (just as the ones missing to make them better).
I would just disagree with the part about Emily because I don't think she was reasonable. I think she had some sense of entitlement. She treated Matt not like her boyfriend, but as a pet, and that showed when she was distressed. She relied on him to do what she couldn't and lashed out at him when he found difficulty in doing so.
An example of her selfish attitude was when she almost fell and Matt saved her because just after that, her instinct was to let him take the lead, not because it made sense given he is more skilled, but because she didn't want to take any risk. Another one could be when the tower crumbled. She demanded Matt save her, but we know that if they switched positions, she wouldn't do the same for him. In general, what the game called "persuasive" is more like gaslighting and manipulative. She shifted situations towards her inflated sense of self-importance. And that showed at the end of the game when she was only worried about what she experienced instead of thinking about how everyone went through some kind of trauma. She lacks the basic self-awareness of realizing that the others were also trying to survive and that she, too, made mistakes and hurt others.

    • @thatoneguy1232
      @thatoneguy1232 Před 2 lety +1

Emily was the most most reasonable along with Sam. I’ll touch on some of your points but before I do so, I want to say the one thing I do not like about Emily was her treatment of Matt and how he basically has to everything she says for her to truly appreciate him(which she does end up doing btw). Also there is the bonus chapter that was cut from the main game which gives Matt, Emily, and their relationship much needed layers. It shows that they truly do care for one another, and have fun together. Also they are far less annoying together than Mike and Jess. Emily even apologizes to Matt for being so high maintenance and reassures him when he starts feeling insecure when he finds an old carving of a heart with Mike and Em’s names etched in it. Now, Firstly, it was Emily’s idea to find everyone and go get help. While everyone was freaking out, she is the one who snaps them out of it and ends the discussion there because honestly what more is there to talk about? Make haste. When they find that the cable car is without a key, Emily goes back to the map that Matt found and suggests heading up to the fire tower. This is crucial btw. And I know she has the line about the rules, but she isn’t wrong when she says she’s always right 😂. And yea, she does rely on Matt a lot but he is the big strong linebacker who also happens to be dressed in the clothes most fitting to perform great tasks. He should protect her. I believe she can be nicer to Matt depending on player choice when the tower collapses but it is a dire situation. And you say she would not do the same but scene right before this one there’s a chance Matt falls off a cliff should he attack the deer. Who’s there to pull him up? Emily!!!! So do not try that 😂. And Emily when forced to fend for herself does a pretty good job down in the mines proving she is very capable on her own. Who knows, maybe she didn’t know she possessed that ability given her privileged life. And the entire time she is crying out for Matt. When she returns to the lodge, she isn’t talking about herself. She is sharing valuable info with the group. About the monster, about what she thinks was Hannah and Beth’s fates(she was right btw). Also she feels awful just thinking about Hannah being down there starving. And up on the tower she apologizes to the girls when seeing their missing posters. Unlike other characters she isn’t given the option to be dismissive about this either which suggests that she doesn’t consider being dismissive like she was in the prologue(we all know the line lol). And she isn’t just about herself. She even says “score one for Matt and Emily” when she gets power running up on the tower. She put Matt’s name first. And she’s the one that got the power on😂. And when speaking to the rangers, she is saying “we” not “I”. Even calls Josh a friend. I guess if you want to argue the part where she cowers and claimed the maniac is coming for her then fine I guess. Anyways, you can see her gently sit Ashley down when the stranger walks in(this is also where she’s the first named character to say “until dawn” lol). If Chris dies she comforts Ash. If he returns she’s thankful to see him. Unlike Sam, she doesn’t object to Mike’s foolish plan to go looking for the cable car key which I guess is understandable. She is the one who always wants to have a plan after all. She was even thinking of one on the way up to the tower. But she does at least direct Mike in the right direction, suggesting the mines. Then, if bitten, Ashley turns on her and soon Mike and vaguely Chris(tho he’s most understandable). Had they read all the stranger’s extensive notes before freaking out or LISTEN TO HIM WHEN HE SAID TO THEIR FACES A MAN OR WOMAN HAS TO COMMIT CANNIBALISM TO BECOME A WENDIGO, there would be no issue. They weren’t even nice about it and Em wasn’t even being that difficult. They treated her like an animal and traumatized her. Should Mike put her down like a dog, they don’t even place her in a dignified position. Like, at least close her mouth and eyes and lay her down on her back. No respect not even from Sam who was against offing her. Should Mike resist and Ashley doesn’t conceal(the fact she even considers it along with the sinister expression on her face speaks volumes), Emily is understandably and justifiably furious. She nearly lost her life and she’s supposed to be cool? No! Maybe the shove towards the finale was a bit excessive but the slap was 100% justified. Also her actions gets the survivors off the mountain and unlike the key which can burn up with Sam, this is definite. Emily guarantees the rescue of all who survives. Then there’s the credits. There are multiple versions(Emily actually as the most I believe) of what she can say. Obviously she will bring up almost being murdered. How can you not? She does talk about the mines and finding Beth too. The big ones tho are regarding Matt. If their relationship was poor she’d claim he abandoned her(unfair). Or she will coldly be un-phased by his disappearance. This is the most heinous thing she does all game and it’s after the fact. If their relationship was good, she will be worried about him and questions if he knew she was devoted to him if he’s alive. If he died she will cry about how awful she was to him and questions if she could have saved him. So yea she is far from the worst. She can be your least favorite but be honest. She is nowhere near as bad as you and many others make her out to be. She could use an attitude adjustment and be nicer to Matt but she causes no one’s death and does nothing that’s harmful or hurtful to the group’s survival. Again, she can be your least favorite, but you’re lying if you say she is the worst in the group. It just isn’t true.
