Yeah. Emily had the best approach of telling them to go down there as she didn’t just tell them go check something out and warned them.

Man, this game made me realize how much being in a horror movie would genuinely be the worse thing imaginable. Of course thats obvious, but this game totally tears down that degree of separation that a movie has. These are characters I care about, and they will genuinely be traumatized and scarred for the rest of their lives. Such a great game.

Mike and Sam are smart and strong characters, but not enough people give Emily credit. She was super tough and relied on her smarts and surroundings to survive. She literally survived a one on one chase with a Wendigo. She was a badass.
She is resourceful
A lot of people made the mistake by not having Emily take the flare gun. Had she did, she could’ve shot the Wendigo so that it wouldn’t bite her. Then the group wouldn’t accuse her of turning after being bit and wouldn’t have pushed Ashley while they were running from the Wendigo.
@@animechic420 yea but then Matt would’ve died he needed the flare gun when the wendigo attacks him

@@i.heart.sid_77 I mean, that won't happen if the relationship between Ashley and Emily are good.
@@Calt_Clerity Not really sure how you manage thay tbh, even if you have Ashley defend Emily when Mike tries to shoot her she still does that
@@stuffwithsoph8264 It doesn't have to be that way with Emily and Ashley. Mike will always try to shoot Em if she was bit by the wendigo. To keep Emily from pushing Ashley in the final chapter, Emily will have to use the flare gun against the wendigo after her fall into the mines AND doesn't mess up any of the final quick time events. I think its chapter 6 or 7. If she is never bit by the wendigo in that chase sequence, Mike has nothing to confront her about, therefore she wont push past Ashley in chapter 10.
@Gorilla Sauce she does
8:17 I got chills at this part of the credits, because it confirms that it wasn’t Jess crying for help, it was the Wendigo mimicking her

I got this ending and Jess's line gave me actual goosebumps:
"Your friend Ashley, she heard you call for her help."
"No, no not me."
inerestingly enough, if you choose to go towards that voice when playing as ashley, it actually causes ashleys death.
It’s a wendigo imitating her.
Aethersome exactly. It alludes to the wendigos being able to imitate their prey perfectly earlier in the game
“Yeah, that wasn’t me. Fuck, I don’t even like Ashley.”
Yep I straight up got ashley killed in my playthrough but imo she deserved for letting chris die
A subtle detail at 2:59 that you can also see in a few other shots : that piece of metal stuck in Hannah's forehead is the bullet Mike fired at her when he saw her after rescuing Jessica in chapter 4. If you choose not to shoot her, it won't appear. Cool little easter egg from the devs.
So was Hannah alive when she fell and turned? Or was she dead and still got the curse?
I’m still a little confused, because she didn’t fall on the rock so she must’ve put up the Beth sign.
@@lovelylune3 No, Hannah was indeed still alive. Beth broke her back on the rock and died right away; Hannah buried her and made the cross but dug her back up and ate her after starving in the mines for about a month. That's when she turned. In the "events of the past" thing with the totems it's shown she was possessed by the Makkapitew, which is like the alpha boss wendigo spirit. It's the thing that was chasing them in the woods. The flamethrower dude killed it right after they fell thinking it was safe since, well, he thought both sisters had died. Hope this helped ;)
@@semperfi2314 Ok thanks that makes sense. Three questions though,
1. Why didn’t Hannah try to escape?
2. They can still think/memorise properly as a wendigo cause she clearly remembered where she buried her sister.
3. How did you find out about this?
@@lovelylune3 1 : Hannah's leg was broken, as explained in her diary in chapter 10. And i'd be surprised if that was her only injury given the fact she fell off a cliff. She was barely alive, so she probably tried to escape but just went gollum instead
2 : You don't turn UNTIL resorting to cannibalism, so there's no reason she wouldn't remember.
3 : Playing through the game multiple times and finding all the clues, especially the last one in the Twins category (hannah's diary) and also finding all the totems, which gets you a 3 min flashback told from the POV of the flamethrower guy (The Events of the Past, you can find it on youtube)
@@semperfi2314 ohh ok thanks

***** I guess, but she lost her sanity.
I personally think that jess went through the most. Literally being dragged by wendigos and having to stay still in the mine scenes and yet she still has no clue what was going on
yes and no, she was out for majority of the night, I feel like Emily went through the most, falling from the tower into the mines, escaping the wendigos, almost got shot by mike + the ending scene
Physically , Jessica definitely got the worst end poor girl was so beaten up by the end. But she was out for a long time and Definetely didn’t suffer as much as the others , psychologically of course . In my opinion Emily and Mike went through the most as Mike did A LOT and had seen a lot and Emily, whether you like her bitchy attitude or not you have to admit that her character is quick and resourceful and one of the smartest alongside Mike. And in her perspective she got betrayed by her boyfriend which she trusted and got left to die, saw beths dead corpse down in the mines and also had several near death experiences and still kept fighting and also to later almost ( or if you choose to shoot ) be betrayed by Mike and almost get shot at leaving her even more trust issues then before . Sam is neat don’t get me wrong but she falls into something similar with Jessica . She really can’t die until much later in the game in comparison to others and also she was taking a bath forever who knows how long only to be later pass out from the mask josh put on her . I admit she did great in the end but if we are talking about the overall game Mike and Emily take the cake for doing the most and suffering the most
She got PTSD after this it seems, her trembling and speech may turn her into the next Josh if she’s not taken care of properly😞
Mike having to face the Wendigos alone in the vacant building twice, trying to save Jessica and the ending is A LOT.
Emily having to face the Wendigo alone in those creepy mines was also horrible.
Jess night was brutal and intense but by comparison short.
Ashley & mostly Sam had to deal with the Killer AND the Wendigos.
Same with Chris.
I honestly would not wanna switch with any of them, but if I had to probably Matt or Ashley. If I had to make my own choice I would take Mike's Route until trying to save Jessica and then hide in the Cabin in a Locker until sunrise lol.
I honestly think Emily went through hell because of that one on one wendigo chase scene but when I saw jess' injuries I gasped

Matt died in my game too. It was kind of annoying and genius by the developers at the same time. Matt dies if you pick the selfless choice of trying to save Emily (if you didn't find the flare gun and keep it). What was clever was the game gives you the option twice in a row (like, are you sure you want to try to save Emily?). I felt like the game was trying to convince me to pick the save myself option.

The wendigos are like 85% wendigo and 15% human

Matt was unproblematic too. He had to deal with his awful girlfriend. I felt the most sorry for Josh. His sisters died. His mental health clearly took a nosedive after that. The fact that he becomes a wendigo after all he's suffered is heart-breaking.
Chris was literally piss drunk when it happened, and had nothing to do with it.
@@cthe4081 Yeah. He was passed out alongside Josh.
Only hannah what she whent trhough than turning into a monster the others got off easy i kill most of them cause i only really feel bad for her and josh. @@user-hf3bp2gy6dHannah isn’t the innocent victim you’re painting her out to be, she was making passes at like and was willing to have an affair with him and then ran off into the forest like a baby when she was caught indirectly causing Beth to die and josh to go crazy
I love every aspect about the finale here, between the image of all 5 survivors in the cabin rushing up the switchback staircase amidst the tense music establishing the final set piece in the lodge, to the horror/action-movie level of planning done by Mike and Sam as they see the gas leak and strategize, in a moment's notice, to turn the entire lodge into a gas-bomb. There's also something thematic about Hannah, as the Wendigo, saving not only Sam's life at the end, but through such action of grabbing the other Wendigo, the entire plan's capacity to operate; in the Prologue, Sam stood up for Hannah about the prank, and in the finale, intentionally or not, Hannah saved Sam, and the other 4 lodge survivors, in turn.
On top of that, because basically everybody in the lodge (besides Chris) can die in the finale depending on your actions, it adds to the tension, and makes the image of Sam making it out just as the place detonates, killing the Wendigos inside it, all the more dramatic and awesome when everybody survives. It really makes you feel like your actions had a tangible effect on the horror movie-esque finale as the survivors rise outside the lodge as the helicopter radios in its findings.

@@cheesestickhathreturned6875 you can say the same thing about the prank on Hannah
I don't think he really viewed them as friends anymore. He viewed them as the people who killed his sisters, and he wanted to make them feel helpless the way he'd felt helpless. If someone did what they did to his sister to mine, and she'd ended up dying, I'd probably want to do something horrible to them too.
Well when your friends get both of your sisters killed because of a prank you’d want them to feel the same way they did, minus the dying.
I'm pretty sure Josh liked her too, but he had issues and what happened to his sisters triggered them.
this is the definition of bittersweet even though they all survived and all of them except for Chris, Sam and maybe Matt deserved every single ounce of Josh’s anger and spite, it’s clear that the secrets they discovered, their violent fight for survival with the Wendigos and Josh’s wrathful actions has left them deeply traumatized for life and their relationship with each other is either put in question or destroyed and even though Josh has become a Wendigo it doesn’t change the fact that he technically won and got what he wanted
I didn’t realise this but at the end before Sam switches the switch on in slow motion, it looked like Hannah was protecting her by pulling the wendigo back. That was pretty cool.
She did not protect Sam. Remember that ALL the wendigos "kill everything that moves". A wendigo was chasing her and Hannah perceived it as a threat, so she was too focused on it and not noticing Sam pulled the switch.
@hong she did not purposely protect Sam, but it was definitely a nod to their past relationship. Stories do it all the time.
i think hannah just wanted sam and the rest to herself. hannah collects the heads of the people in the group that can die wendigo deaths, so even in her wendigo form she stills have some conscious and drive for vengeance that makes her want to "protect" the group from other wendigos so she can give them a more gruesome death

The combination of what she lived through, the fact that she actually *lived* through all that, and the fact that the police won’t believe her until they see the mines for themselves probably has her on the verge of a hysterical breakdown. Jess looks so damn broken, I feel so bad for her.
Emily's reaction was 100% uncalled for, they all literally went through hell and all she can do is hate on Matt and Mike like come on. I don't personally hate any of the characters, but gosh.
Emily's attitude in the end changes based on your choices. In my ending she asked about Matt.
Jess got karma worked on her
I think everyone just deals with trauma differently which she seems to have been doing the entire game
Emily was worried about Matt in my game.
@@krissyfandubs2 But the choice that makes Emily worry about Matt I think it does him to die when they are on the tower, I don't remember exactly, but i think it was that

If this was a movie. It likely Sam and mike are the canon survivors.
No , mike was like a jock in a horror movie who always get killed early. I think chris would fit the criteria , because almost every comedy relieve character survived in horror movie

Sam: You need to go down in the mines **smiles manically**
*Headcanon epilogue:*
*Sam:* Sam was unsurprisingly disturbed by the discovery of the Wendigo’s true identity - Hannah. For months on end, she decided to dedicate her time to researching everything she could about the curse atop the mountain, attempting to find a cure lest anyone else were to turn. Try as she might, however, her efforts were in vain. Dejected, Sam eventually returned to her old life of hiking and rock-climbing, but never again would she find herself alone - or unarmed.
*Mike:* The tragedy of Beth’s death, alongside Hannah’s transformation, affected Mike deeply. For some time after the events at the mountain, he and Sam found comfort in each other’s company. But Sam’s renewed work ethic researching Wendigoes and Mike’s determination to push the past aside meant that a meaningful relationship would never come to fruition. Falling in and out of bouts of alcoholism, Mike would slowly return to his old life, though he makes occasional visits to a mental hospital to check in with an old friend.
*Chris:* Unlike the rest of his peers, Chris’ wit and sense of humour led him to be slightly less perturbed by the night’s events. He would go on to write a book about his experiences, titled “Until Dawn: The Twelve Hour Nightmare,” dedicated to the old man that saved him. In an ironic twist of fate, the traumatic happenings on the mountain actually led Chris to his happily ever after, with his bestselling book in one arm, and Ashley in the other.
*Ashley:* Ashley, alongside Mike and Jess, was incredibly unstable following the events on the mountain, having been kidnapped (twice), chased by a Wendigo, and nearly shot and sawn in half (granted, the last two were staged, though it did not lessen her panic). In a fit of mania, she would attempt to take her life, only to find herself being saved once again -by Chris. Strengthened by his support, she frequents visits to a therapist’s office, who seems all too familiar in dealing with those facing trauma.
*Emily:* Emily began to point fingers the moment Josh’s cabin burst into flames. She didn’t care who or what was chasing her in the mountains - As far as she was concerned, Mike and Matt were traitors. However, the mystery of the Wendigo intrigued her more than she would have ever wanted to admit. Alienated from the rest of the group, Emily would go on to work in the upper echelons of Los Angeles due to her deep pockets: snobby critic by day, supernatural investigator by night.
*Matt:* Matt never met the lofty standards set by Emily when they dated, even less so when he couldn’t save her atop the burning firewatch tower. But he knew that he tried his best, but wasn’t good enough. With a renewed purpose, Matt pursued a life of self-improvement, joining charity organisations and helping the marginalised, so that he would never let anyone down ever again, just like he did with Emily.
*Jess:* Jess’ night never ended, and it broke her. Even after being informed by Sam and Mike that the ‘Wendy-go’ responsible for the night’s happenings had been slain, she could only see death. Everywhere she went, she saw it - a thin, pale figure, with glossy eyes, sharp teeth - and she could hear its scream, like nails on chalkboard, echoing off of her skull. Too afraid to venture anywhere, she became a shut-in, and was later checked into a mental hospital to treat her trauma and constant nightmares. Even in her padded room, she never felt safe enough to sleep - Unless, of course, Mike was there to protect her.
*Josh:* Whereabouts unknown. Hungry.

This is so good, I love it!
This game was freaking amazing. It's been five years, but Until Dawn will always be one of my favorites. Everything was great, from graphics, to gameplay, to storytelling. Truly, a masterpiece.
I was your 69th like😏
The gameplay really? I like the game, but the best you can say about the gameplay is, that it serves its purpose, but it isn't anything special or new i think
it's good but could've been better with even more context and making more decisions that matter
MagicBavarian I mean the gameplay serves the purpose of the game as you said, and it did its job really well. This is what the game was set out to be, a choice based, story focused game and in my opinion they did a good job at that.
You just made me realize. Its been five years since this came out. What the actual hell.
hands down one of the best horror game ever made. Can't change ur choices mid game, choices actually make a large impact, such creative use of motion sensor in Dual Shock 4 and brutal deaths. Wish sony make more games like this.
Even now, this game remains one of my all time favorites. The story is incredible and practically infinitely replayable, allowing for a ton of playthroughs and experiences.
so the longer u stayed away from the switch, the more ppl that survive. smart game design
But couldn’t the others just wait next to the switch to ensure it being pressed when there was a good moment?

Sigh. I wish The Quarry had credits like this.
Yeah...
the quarry is such a shit game compared to this, even the decision making is different, they make you choose constantly through choices of dialogue whereas here, youre mostly choosing vital decisions, all the frame rate, the way the cgi and characters look, the way it flows, the dialogue between characters also flowing smoothly is so vastly different its a shame
It was a pile of shite. If I had the money I’d fund Until Dawn 2 with a completely different horror story but just as good.

You gotta admit, this was a fucking amazing game and the developers need to make another game similar, not that vr one cause in my opinion, it wasn’t the best
Honestly I don't think anything is good on that thing, especially for a game of this caliber. Ya feel me?

The Inpatient had a lot of potential but unfortunately it just fell short. I hope they give this franchise another go on vr though.

There's an option for Matt to survive and Emily not to hate him. You just need to make sure that Matt keeps the flare instead of using it.

Got this game for 20-something dollars on the PS Store and I just finished it. Wow, what an amazing game. Truly a masterpiece. It was so cool playing a game where nearly every choice affects the story, who lives, etc. This game felt like a whole new genre never before seen in video games. Everything about this game impressed me. Until Dawn is a game I will never forget. 10/10
Basically their trauma at the end of the game:
Chris feels regret that he couldn't save the Stranger after the Stranger saved him.
Ashley believes she left Jessica in the mine shafts and feels regret for not helping (when it was really Hannah tricking her), she also feels panicked because she stabbed the psycho that she didn't know was Josh.
Emily is angry at Mike for pointing the gun at her and almost shooting her. She can either be angry at Matt for leaving her to die or wishes he made it alive after he tried to save her.
Jessica is the one who experienced the most trauma and left her the most scarred. She deconfirms Ash's claims that it was her shouting in the mine and is wondering where Mike is.
Mike is disgruntled about Josh's mindset throughout the early part of the game.
Sam is emotionally torn because she thought she had a good relationship with Josh. She is also scarred about what she seen in the mine.
Josh was left to starve in the mine, consumed by hunger he ate the Stranger's face and got possessed by a Wendigo spirit.
4:06 Sam definitely lost her hearing after this
Hahah
And probably her sense of smell
I thought the same 🤣
@@AliUnderscore gosh i can’t imagine the smell they have
This isnt the best, the best is when everyone survives, no one hates eachother and Josh turns into a wendigo, if u dont want anyone to hate eachother just chose the kind/friendly choices, specifically for Emily, make sure Matt sides with her in the fight against jess, then in the radio tower be suspicious, save her once, then jump to safety, also make sure em keeps the flare gun to shoot the wendigo so she doesnt get bit, meaning she doesnt hate ash or mike
I think that even choosing the nice choices they don't end up on the good ending, as pretty much you have to go through a VERY specific path of choices
If em keeps the flare gun then Matt dies & even if you save her once she still is angry at him
Nicolas Flamel that’s exactly what i said ?
@@miothepurrito Actually, she can it's just very hard. Obviously have her keep the flare gun, then you have to pass EVERY qte when being chased by the Wendigo. Then finally you only a have a quick second to shoot it when it jumps at you. Took me at least five tries but it is possible.
Better ending: do all that but kill em
0:30 that moment always gives me goosebumbs, am I the only one? It's so tense and the music helps a lot.
All saved is my favourite ending. I mean, it would be better for Josh if he died instead of turning into wendigo but the wendigo ending just feels more cinematic and canon in a way
7:46 if you fully defend Emily from a fight from Jessica, she thought about him and worried.

Ashley may not be the most benevolent character, but did Emily really just shove her to one side so the Wendigos might catch her as bait? What an evil person.
Ashley deserves it. She was willing to throw Emily out to the wolves due to the fact she assumed it was zombie rules. She even said during the shoot or don't shoot Emily scene _"He said it was from eating each other remember he said that"_ Then switched mindsets and said _"It happens if it bit you"_
@AylahWindRanger Exactly. Mike, Ashley and Chris are not acting like that just for the sake of being assholes. They are traumatized, paranoid and not thinking clearly. Ashley is the most realistic character in that she breaks down from the hell they have been through.
Am i the only one who thinks that Ashley is actually so cute?
@@scm4942 people weren't kidding when they said you were everywhere commenting the same thing lol
Ashley was way worse than Emily. She was scary, annoying, and bitchy. Which is way worse than Emily because at least Em had some damn balls.
Random Fact: when sam's running there are two wendigo's, one almost grabs her, but the one behind pushes the wendigo back, the wendigo that pushed the one back from grabbing Sam was Hannah, Hannah saved Sam because Sam didn't take part into the prank that got her killed.
Omg
Hannah didn't save Sam because of that. Hannah was a wild Wendigo that was just trying to literally grab the first thing it could get its hands on which just so happened to be the other Wendigo chasing Sam. lol
Roll Tide When there was those ‘don’t move’ things with Sam, Hannah didn’t saw her because she didn’t move, but when Sam started to run, Hannah recognized her and stopped the other Wendigo from killing her. Hannah did recognized Sam so basically she did saved her.
@@val4079 If you think that Hannah Wendigo cares so much for Sam, see what happens when the Hannah Wendigo is standing right in front of Sam and you do the opposite of "Don't move". lol

Nah Sam's fine
i love josh's character, he didn't deserve to be like that
@Trailers r u serious? He had to experience his sisters die and his friends were at fault for them. He did mentally scar them, yes, but he didn’t want to kill them, only scare. He had no connection to the wendigo
Michael Chen if he didn’t pass out from drinking he would help beth and Hannah...
IceWhiteNinFan • how was josh supposed to anticipate that they were gonna die. Plus Mike and the others didn’t even attempt to chase after them in the snow. What josh did was wrong, but can you blame him? With his mental state and traumatic experiences, and the fact that he has forgiven them for what they did to his sisters
But what if mike decided to saw Ashley then he technically would’ve killed her and he didn’t have any character development 😡😡😡
Lauren Copes I don’t understand what your saying, please elaborate
One of my absolute favorite games of all time, a total horror masterpiece! I play this every year around Halloween ever since I first got it. It's really disappointing to me that this never really got a sequel and probably never will, I mean I realize it's hard to do a sequel to a game with multiple endings but they could decide what the "True" Ending was like having all the characters survive, or maybe have a totally new group go onto the mountain or something. I know Man of Medan and Little hope exist but they're just not nearly as good as Until Dawn, this was a once in a lifetime experience that I'll never forget.
This is one of the best horror media credits ever in my opinion, it still keeps it's unsettling feel even if everyone's alive.
When everyone(Except emily) says "WENDIGOS MAN THEYRE UP THERE THEY EAT PEOPLE!" and the cops say they're all nuts...

What I find really dumb about the questioning scenes is the police or possibly FBI don’t tell the characters who is alive. Matt thinks Emily died after the tower fell, Mike thinks Jessica is dead because she fell down the elevator shaft after getting grabbed and Jessica doesn’t know if mike made it out. But if the people questioning them answered their questions there wouldn’t be any confusion.
