"Going to the gym for the rest of your life IS going to the gym today."
I love this because it encapsulates the reality that life is so much less beautiful and easy than we wish it was. I was thinking about it today as I drove to work passing a cornfield: I've seen music videos of musicians wandering through cornfields, or mountains, or whatever and it looks so inspirational. But do it yourself without the cinematography and the music and all you're doing is walking through a dirty cornfield. All the aesthetics are gone and it's just real life. Everyone wants their life to play out like a beautifully shot music video, but it's just not reality. Going to the gym every day sounds so great, but doing it today does not. Find beauty in the hard work, mundanity, and realness of life, not what you feel like life should be.
Yeah i recently discovered the idea of actually having the resting time where you're not just filling in your spare time with some task but just existing. It's important to just appreciate the rawness of real life sometimes.
Speak for yourself alright. You are doing a fantastic job at projecting. also repeating what other people says and rephrase it doesn’t make them like you more. Trying so hard to gain approval from this pale hairless mastermind
Tipp: Dont try boring fitness stuff, but achieve skills. And dont forget about mobility.
I would add that it's also a matter of conditioning. If you aren't used to finding beauty in the ordinary, then it will often seem like the beauty isn't there. But it is. And it's different than the "cinematic" beauty we've conditioned ourselves to believe is the goal, but I'd argue it's even more beautiful. It's entirely about perspective. For instance, lots of people seem to resonate with my cinematography in this video. People have been talking about how much my cinematography has improved. But if you break it down, all I'm doing is going out with my camera and observing the world around me, letting the beauty reveal itself -- and I capture it as I see it. I didn't create the beautiful images, I recorded them.
@@betterideas Meditation is the vehicle that gives you the ability to do that, I believe. Being lost in thought (like how almost everyone is) is the only thing that's getting in the way of experiencing life as it is (truly beautiful). I remember 3 years ago I was meditating every day for 10 minutes and did it for 6 months straight. Let me tell you, my life flipped 180 degrees. And I noticed it in the simple things of every day life. Watching the sunset or just going for a walk without being overwhelmed by concepts allowed me to live the best moments of my life. Sad thing is I stopped meditating after that period and came where I am today, not liking my life for the last couple of years. I'm going to start living and stop entertaining the concepts my mind is throwing at me. Thanks for the video Joey!

Because we’re all going through it. Because our lives are all incredibly similar, and it is often easier to find those commonalities and work through them together rather than isolate and continue believing we are the only one suffering.

@@KingDrub gotta give credit where credits due. I'm obviously not gonna compliment him daily 19 years into his career but if you see someone has really risen the ranks and is performing at a high level you should give them praise. Not sure why society these days thinks it's weird to give another man a compliment
In Alcoholics Anonymous they tell you "One day at a time." So many newcomers walk through the door with the thought, "I have to not drink for the rest of my life," and that can be extremely overwhelming. So, one of the first things they must learn is to simply not drink today. Tomorrow will take care of itself, so focus on what you can do today. Some folks even break it down to hours and even minutes. Just focus on what you can do in this moment. Such a simple concept, but it can be so hard to follow through on, so we'll add, "Easy does it," as in, just don't take things so seriously. Focus on one thing at a time and let process play itself out, and as long as you're moving forward, even if you have to take a few steps back, that's okay.
I remember when I first got sober, my sponsor would tell me, "Easy does it," but I took it to heart and just slacked off. I never looked for a job, I isolated, I spent too much time plopped in front of the TV, I got lazy and lethargic, and miserable. And bored. I was ready to start drinking again. So, one night after a meeting my sponsor sat me down and said, "David, I know I told you 'easy does it,' but I have to add something. 'Easy does it, BUT DO IT.'" It was an "either shit, or get off the pot" situation. I had a choice, either get off my ass and do the deed, or start drinking again. And I didn't want to start drinking again, so I got off my ass. And though I'm still a bit of a lazy bastard, I still get off my ass when needed. One day at a time.
Thank you
Very inspirational, thank you!
Nice man.. 👍
Keep doing it man. I support.

Yeah I always feel like I’m waiting for something which is death
I never bothered to differentiate between life and living. I thought that I just had to live the life I wanted because life…was just life, and things would happen without any control, but every time, my expectations weren’t picture-perfect. Because I kept pushing choices. I kept supporting myself with motivational quotes, telling myself, whatever happens, happens. When that doesn’t reassure me, I tell myself: “I have to make that choice.” Though subconsciously, I keep pushing it further away.
So hearing this…wasn’t a wake-up call. But it was something I needed to hear. Life is living in the moment. I don’t know how to live correctly, but being decisive is the only way forward. If I keep letting my life go the way it is, I’d be stagnating. Thank you for creating this video. Because even if I know that life can’t be controlled, I’ve never really tried to change the way I’ve lived.
I love this response so much! I feel the exact same way. Though I have been making strides towards my ideal life, it’s so easy to get caught up in the “for the rest of my life” trap and get overwhelmed. It’s really just one day at a time and experiencing living for what it is
It's been so long I've felt true joy, that wonder, that hope, looked forward for things to come. I can't even remember. Life is just pushing through every day and living for the sake of family
This couldn’t have come at a better time for me. It’s so important to remind ourselves that we are in control of our lives and the outcome. We’re all gonna make it!!

True. I live in a war zone, so quite often it feels as if I just don’t have control over anything, even though I do a lot of volunteering and stuff. But this video has actually lifted my mood🤗
Not always in control if your life
I watched this twice because you have such an amazing talent for illuminating through storytelling. Every time I watch one of your videos, I think to myself, "I kinda knew this but this video made me really _know_ it." This video in particular reminds me of a Bible verse which says, "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."
I'm so grateful that I discovered your channel and that you're still healthy, capable and willing enough to continue to share seemingly simple ideas from your brilliantly unique perspective. I'm super appreciative of the videos you've shared and always super excited for the upcoming videos. :)
I don't hate my life, I hate myself..
I hate both.
i love the fact that i absolutely expected nothing from this video, thought its not even gonna touch me a little, and now im sitting here and crying, while at work, just because you chose to say very special words in this video. you just spoke to my soul man. to my inner child trying to break free since 15 years, and i just cant describe how good this felt.
im gonna watch this everytime i feel down from now on... this was really eye opening. Even though the whole concept of this video was already something i had heard about alot, i never really understood it. That you even could divide life from living. and i just love the way you use words, and other stylistic ways of making this video have an impact on people. Thank you man
saw you channel a long time ago and subbed just because i thought there might be a video someday, which i wanna watch, i am SO GLAD that i did that !
I just entered some weird stage of hopelessness, dissociation and existential crisis.. I barely have a grasp on what's real anymore. Everything seems relative and so distant. It seems like I'm kinda living up to my name, haha (= strange/stranger)
I don't know if I'm actually living or just surviving through all these years.. thanks for the video, tho. Perfect timing
I feel the same. Each day I wonder if life is worth the effort. Not suicidal, just wouldn't be bothered if it were to end. Change is needed.
Feel the same, horrible waking up each morning with a feeling of dread in the stomach
i get you. i feel like the truth is that we will never be able to understand anything completely, so we should just all create a way of living that works for us; create our own reality. when you start thinking of everything way too much, it's easy to get caught in a loop of thoughts that lead nowhere. just create what you feel reality should be like. it's your life and you can live it however you want:)
Life is about living the good and the bad days.... And oh dude the bad ones look like they happen more often.. But even tho, if I have learned something is that after The bad days, there comes good days, and after The good days... Well yeah, there also must come Bad days, thats just how life works I guess, or how our living works.
(If you are having the worst Day of your life, or you simply feel like this crap sucks, remember, after Bad days, there comes good days, and after completly horrifying days, there might come totally Amazing Days.... Or thats just how my brain procces this crap Lol).
I feel you, I am going exactly through the same thing...
I love you bro for this introspection of life. I am a depressive person that uses logic to differ through it. This really helps
This was beautifully done. "Going to the gym the rest of your life IS going to the gym today." We can input anything we want in place of the gym. Almost anything we want in our lives we can create if we give it enough time and effort. Thank you for this video. There's much in here that can be meditated on... Tho it really comes down to action. And a little action over time day after day is like compound interest. It only gets bigger and better but we'll never know how big or fast it'll grow until we start.
I just want to say that the timing of the release of your videos is always opportune. I swear I needed to hear this today. Thank you for being genuine!
Recently I started filling my bucket again after many months of self-doubt and anxiety that followed something over a year of abuse I went through by my "best" friend. For a while now I've been watching channels like these, and slowly but surely they helped me realize that we aren't always in control of ourselves in life but we are in control of how life makes us feel.
This summer I've found real friends that have given me invaluable lessons and experiences I wouldn't trade anything in the world for, and I'm on my way to be running XC for my school. It's never too late to start anything in life, and I think a good quote I read somewhere was "We don't have anxiety because of who we think we are, but because of who we think we are not."
Thanks for the wisdom Joey! Love your work.
I can't believe it..I've been wandering about this today since morning and couldn' define it in words.. still can't completely, but I'm so closer now. Thank you Joey! I've been following you for couple of years now and can tell that you helped me a lot!

Sometimes I follow a certain motion and it leads to better things, even though the motion itself is frowned upon. My go to when stressed is an awesome game and I usually do not game regularly and not just anything but sometimes I feel so burned out by life that I play certain games for 1-2 weeks excessively, like a mini vacation. Usually slightly story driven games or action adventures which let you experience things I wish I could experience in real life. This then, when done without beating myself up and guilt and expectations, gives me so much energy and motivation that I manage to implement a step in my real life that leads me closer to the experience I was searching in-game. No idea why I wrote that. I guess I want to say that sometimes if we follow the feeling of what we need and listen to ourselves, even if we or others are quick to judge this isn't optimal, it can help us going in the right direction towards a life we enjoy more.
“You don’t experience life you experience living”

I'm not going to lie, this video has me currently shook. Has me taking a hard look at my life, I'm someone who's lived a life of regret, pushing away every opportunity, no friends and just going into a cycle of coming home from work, getting paid at slightly above minimum, drinking and browsing the internet until I fall asleep only to wake up doing the same shit over and over again. I hate it, in fact I'm prepared to just go and I have no idea what to do.
