Great video. The hand movements was all I needed. Dropping the back of the wing to the water was the game changer.

This is a fantastic tutorial. I'm from the north and often wing on the ice. Using what is basically a big skateboard with blades. The problem (and the fun) with ice sailing is the speed. I get horribly back winded when entering a jibe at between. 30, sometimes close to 40, knots of boat speed. But a fast and snappy push of the back hand made all the difference. FINALLY able to make high speed wing jibes.

A fantastic instructional video--I don't think I've seen a better one on any wingfoil subject. Sailing skill, camera work, editing, and commentary all top notch. The emphasis here on the downward motion of the back hand is different from other HJ videos and maybe this is the game changer. In the past my few attempts with 70-year-old shoulders and a 6.5m wing have not turned out well. When shoulder recovers I will try this. You make it look so effortless. Interesting to compare this to Alan Cadiz's (also a great video instructor) "power jibe" where the back hand comes forward palm up early in the jibe and leads the wings turning motion--a bit easier on the shoulders perhaps.

thankyou, yes this is all really about how you send the wing. You can lead with the front hand only but this is a very weak lead and the wing may not flip onto the new direction as a result - you can go front hand only with the toe-side to heel-side if you wish but heel-side to toe-side requires a bit more send. The back hand motion creates a much stronger send of the wing and it will flip over more aggressively.

Thanks for the video. What duotone foil do you recommend ?

I haven't actually used any DuoTone foils yet, the only ones available at my local wing dealer are last years models and this years range has changed a fair bit.

Excellent - thanks! Btw I noticed that your harness lines are bent out of shape. I have the same issue, happens when wing is rolled for packing. Impossible to get back to original shape and makes hooking in harder. I’m thinking of buying a different model ( stiffer ) - do you have any recommendations?

I have changed to the ION harness lines - they stay in shape nicely.
