    This has helped me al lot. From, not being able to find my balance toe-side, to riding toeside as long as I want. Putting my backfoot a little foreward made the difference for me. Thanks!!

    This is by far the best video I have found on riding toe-side. I often don't know how to explain things to my friend when I learn how to do them, so I just sent him this video. I also learned a couple things in the process of watching this! The only thing I would add to this video is that practicing the wing in toeside on the beach was really helpful for me and one less thing for me to focus on when I am actually riding toeside. Really liked your suggestion of going for the gybe out of toeside sooner than later. It is pretty easy to get powered up on/after that one, even if you do touch down. Plus, if you are practicing gybes, no need to go long stretches between them. Keep the great videos coming and many thanks!

      yes a bit of beach practice always helps and can serve to loosen up the hips and shoulders before heading out on the water. Gybing out of toes-side earlier rather than later gives you what I would call a win as if you make that gybe not only did you sail toe-side but it didn't end in dropping off foil or crashing and you did a new (and pretty easy) gybe - and it's good to take the wins, they spur you on to do more.

      let us know how you get on. Toe-side does take time to master but it's the key to the treasure. Once unlocked everything changes.

      Well I had a good session yesterday down at Hayling. I found that positioning my back foot forward before the gybe really helped coming out toe side and I did increase my distance in toe side although I still struggled to maintain control for very long. On reflection I think moving my rear foot over to windward and maybe giving front foot straps a try could be my next move. Thanks again.

    Thank you for spending so much time at helping us in our technical sport ! My main concern with toe side riding is when I want to go upwind then I can't stop going upwind ! And I end up flat head wind ! Following your advice I will bring forward my back foot.

    • @Wing-Tips
      @Wing-Tips  Před 4 měsíci

      Moving the back foot forwards may help you with this as it sounds like you may be pressuring the back fooot and turning the board upwind. Toe-side is very much a repetition learned skill - you just have to keep going at it and it will actually just sort itself out eventually and then you will wonder what the problem was all along.

      I succeed to ride toe side broad reach when exiting a jibe but not yet upwind 🙂I come from decades of windsurfing and started wingfoil in september 22 with my wife beginner material and believing it was to be easy. It turned to be a headache with wrong material and blur advices. Your commitment to acuracy and pedagogy is invaluable for this sport to level off. To succeed jibing I have been searching desperately for the key among dozens of tutos as I was always falling on the back. One lucky day I found the only one tuto (from a kitefoiler discovering himself the wingfoil) giving me the key and the day after I was jibing. Many no die hard with limited time beginners looking for easy foiling sensation give up (heard from the shop !) in front of the actual difficulties and, I believe, the lack of sincere how to's like yours.

    You make great break down videos !!! Can you make one about body position riding straight to get most of your gear regarding speed ? Thanks in advance

    Couple things I noticed when riding toeside. Trying to put my chin above my arm holding the front handle, gets my weight forward and to the side perfectly.
    Moving your hand on the front all the way back on the handle helped too, not sure why though haha

    • @Wing-Tips
      @Wing-Tips  Před 5 měsíci

      certainly visual aids like this can help you get your weight right. Regarding holding the front handle at the back, this opens the wing leading edge out more towards the wind, so it has the effect of elongating your arm slightly whilst at the same time moving the wing into a more traditional position without having to pull the back hand in more. The only downside to this is some wings are not that stable flown off the back of the front handle.

    Unique insights offered here, first on I’ve seen that emphasizes rear foot positioning (both location and direction) to produce the needed forces. Anything going on with positioning of front foot?

    • @Wing-Tips
      @Wing-Tips  Před 5 měsíci

      for me I use footstraps, so my front foot is limited in what I can do with it. You can still point it forwards a little to reduce twist in the torso, without straps you can obviously just point it straight forwards and reduce torso twist significantly - but you would need to move it more towards the center line otherwise you are compromising your ability to get board angle by pressing through your toes. In toe-side the front foot is really driving off the toes fully if it is in a strap, where as the backfoot you can generally move around and position to suit what you are trying to achieve.

    • @davidhmws
      @davidhmws Před 5 měsíci

      Hey thanks for your thoughts. Also, I notice on other videos (not yours because of the camera perspective) that riders might exaggerate the knee bend in toe side which seems to aid in the torso twist. In regular stance, I'm often trying to keep knees straighter in order to avoid being hunched over, learn that relaxed looking regular stance.@@Wing-Tips

    • @Wing-Tips
      @Wing-Tips  Před 5 měsíci

      @@davidhmws I think the knee bend in toe-side is more a consequence of wanting to get your weight windward, if you stand very straight you tend to be very open to getting yanked back towards the wing and you can't just bend your legs to sit down to control the gusts.

    That was the first time I've heard that keeping the foil level makes it vulnerable to head off downwind! I realise now that's probably why I'm always wondering off downwind in my gybes. Since I've committed a bit more to the turn I've had greater success with gybing. Sometimes my processing directions from my brain to my feet in toeside gets mixed up & I stall. Would reaching out the front arm to get the wing more open to the wind be a nuance that would help me recover until I get my board level? Any other tips that don't involve the feet to recover from this situation until I get used to toeside riding?

    • @Wing-Tips
      @Wing-Tips  Před 3 měsíci +2

      I'm not sure that reaching out would put more pressure on your front foot. Moving the wing towards the front of the board would naturally shift your weight onto the front foot. As the video points out, most stalling is caused by weighting the back foot, so the best solution is moving that forwards on the board so it has less ability to stall your board.
