Heineken jibe practice starting to pay off

  • These jibes are easy but elusive. I finally got a whole flatwater session where I got to try tons of these in a row. Things are starting to click, maybe another few sessions and I'll feel real good about it but I'm pretty stoked to make some progress and then get to watch the footage after. Persistence...

    Enjoying your channel Jeremy. I love the Heineken jibe and usually do it with just my forward hand riding twisted toeside to heelside turns. If I’m using my 6 or 6.5m wings I use my back hand to push the wing around. Occasionally a gust will catch me and I get the wing flipped upside down, but those failures are helping me pump my foil while correcting my wing and now I’m staying on foil and getting power in the wing. Before I usually wiped out trying to stay on foil while correcting my upside down wing. Love those days when it takes 20-30 fails/falls before you have success. Then you reach the 50% mark and so forth. Keep it up.

      Thanks so much bud! Truly means a lot. I think I’m getting close to that 50% mark with the H-jibes and once I’m over that number they should just come more naturally. So close! And that’s on flat water, doing these in waves on pivotal turns… whole different story. If I’m at like 90% of flat water I can still be 55% in crazy waves. But anything over 50 feels so good! Thanks again for the comment, and I wish you an awesome week bud!

      Awww thanks so much bud!! I hope your journey is as rewarding as mine has been. It’s a lot of work, but the more time and focus you out into it the more you get out of it (like anything in life, I know 😜). All of my wing friends that are getting good at winging have had this craving for more that kiting or whatever just wasn’t doing, winging is such a great mental and physical challenge and that’s enough of a reward, but once you start to dial stuff in it just keeps getting more fun. Have fun bud, let me know how the journey is!

    great , I noticed two things can help you in Heineken jibe make hand transition a bit sooner . In tack try to move forward new hand with the wing its make less drag so you loos less speed

      sweet, thanks bud! I don't do them too often but I still enjoy the way it feels when I do these jibes. was that one or two things? I wish you an awesome day.

      @@OCEANBOUND1 one in jibe one in tack, especially in tack movein new forny hand forward helps a lot to keep speed and keep same height. Thank you and you too .

    Awesome, Jeremy! I haven't started with the Heineken Jibe yet because I was afraid the 6m Strike would be too big to throw around behind your head but you make it look doable! Oh and your team won game 1 of the NBA finals! Congrats!

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  Před 2 lety

      Sup bud!! I may not make them look pretty, but the 6m is def doable for learning them! A smaller wing would be better in a lot of ways but I don’t think it’s a requirement. The CWC wings aren’t that wide compared to others of the same size. Practicing the lasso motion helps, but I swear if you can focus keeping the wing kinda flat as you come around, it should just do the right thing automatically.
      And yeah, go Celtics! What a game!!

      @@OCEANBOUND1 Yup had an awesome session yesterday prone foiling! I am only 12 sessions in and had a breakthrough and was able to go down the line, in a semi-controlled fashion. LOL It can only get better from here! Stay stoked!

    Thats one gybe on my list, as the big man makes it look so easy, but great to see real footage and not just an edit showing all the correct attempts. For sure your channel should have way more subscribers, soon to be the Casey Neistat of wingfoiling vlogs 😎
    No wind here for over a week!! and some forecasted for after the weekend, meanwhile my friends as on fire down in Tarifa for a week!! 😭

      Yeeeoow thanks so much Dan!! Casey is huge and I try to set up my videos like his, he’s great inspiration and I love his storytelling. The Heineken jibe actually isn’t as hard as I thought it was, I think within another few sessions I’ll have it pretty good on my dominant side and I’ll be working on the other side. I just can’t wait till they are fluid and active look and feel good.
      I have a bunch of days in the next few weeks off, that usually means we will have no wind here either 😂👍 sounds like you should follow your friends. Tarifa has been on my list for over a dozen years. You been?

      @@OCEANBOUND1 😁Nope it's on my list as well and it's about a 8-10hr drive fully loaded. Roads are good though, probably plan a trip when it's not the tourist season as the beaches get packed. It's windy pretty much always there.

    How much beach time did you spend figuring out the wing move? I tried to get it dialed last winter and didn’t make much progress. Thanks

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  Před 2 lety +1

      Sup Rob! I’ve tried a few times, but not with a ton of success. I did get a session on my skateboard where I tried it a handful of times, but this was really the first session where I was able to do a ton in a row. Now I know the next few sessions they will come easier. Especially after watching the footage and noticing where I was messing up. Since this video I did a bunch of land practice on my non-dominant direction, and then went out and tried them, still totally awkward. So I look forward to working on these for the next month or so. So thankful the water is getting warmer…
      Thanks bud for the comment… I wish you an awesome day!

    @Jeremy I notice today in the vid that your wetsuit elbows are shredded! Wow! My wetsuit elbows are shredded too. I thought it was just me. Do other people have this issue and do we need wing specific wetsuits or maybe the internet has a solution, if so I'd loooooove it. Its sad to trash a mega expensive winter wetsuit in just one season of winging.

    • @dirkpetersen8705
      @dirkpetersen8705 Před 2 lety +1

      If you have 2 sessions a week, yes my winter suit is gone after one season, mainly the knees and then the elbows. Having a harness I always go on my elbows to mount the board, then quickly on the knees and up. The neoprene gets thinner and thinner at those exposed areas until the first holes appear. So yes definitely they should invent wing specific wetsuits!

    • @robadair
      @robadair Před 2 lety +1

      Same here, elbows on a 1 year old suit are trashed.

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  Před 2 lety

      Haha I totally agree. And many of my friends complain about the same in the knees. Yeah the last 2 winters, I’ve totally worked my winter wetsuits and that’s frustrating but I really am abusing them so I don’t lose sleep over it. 95% of wetsuits are only made for surfing. But we should push some of the bigger watersports companies who have embraced winging from the beginning to create wong specific suits. Cabrinha, Naish, FOne/Manera… this is your clarion call! Lol. Hope all is well on Jade-land where ever that is. I wish you a great week!
