    I've just bought a 98 funduro, planning on a roadtrip adventure and will download this video in case the bike suddenly starts acting up. It's running fine now, but just in case 😂. Cheers!

      Yes, I have been repairing vehicles since the 70's. But, I still occasionally, come across problems that are very hard to diagnose. That is why I say that you must be slow and methodical, in your collection of clues. And, don't lose your temper. I have many times. But, a break from the job, always works wonders.

    Great vid thanks, had an issue with my LT a few months ago, it was the spark plug so glad that it was mentioned here for anyone else having the same issue. Keep up the good work.

      Glad to be of assistance. I am aiming to buy a very run down bike that hasn't run for years, so that I can film the work needed to get it going again.

    Hello. Hope you are fully recovered!! I've just fallen into Funduro ownership after a lifetime of Japanese and Italian sports bike so your videos have been very welcome. Hopefully stripping the forks and the carbs this winter so any videos/advice would be great! All the best Mat.

      Hi Mat,
      I am now fully recovered many thanks.
      I have done a video on the carbs from this bike. That may help you.
      Let me know if there is any thing I can help you with.

      @@RestorationBiker great to hear you're well! Watched the carb video and it was brilliant. Absolutely invaluable. I'm now looking forward to stripping them when the weather stops being so nice. My Funduro bogs down if you twist the throttle too fast so I'm thinking diaphragms.....
      Anyway a video on forks and one on removing seized bolts would be just the ticket! Cheers.

    Greeting,
    I have a BMW f650, 1998. I had problems starting in the early morning when the temperatures are low, about 12 degrees Celsius. I wasn’t getting a spark, but after 10 minutes of starting the engine would start and run without a rhythm. When it warmed up it would work normally all day, but tomorrow the same story again. I came to the conclusion that I had a problem with the air temperature, so I heated the coils with a dryer. This made starting much easier. During June, the exhaust branch punctured and the starting problems stopped. Interesting! I decided not to touch anything, the engine is running, and the sound is better, more serious. Only my exhaust fumes go directly into my helmet when I stand longer at a traffic light. But never mind! I’ll see in the spring if the performance has stayed, I’ll let you know.

      Hi,
      This sounds very interesting. I have given it a lot of thought. It sounds as if there is a problem with the cold start (choke) mechanism, in the carbs. But, you say there is no spark when cold??? Very strange. There is nothing that I can think of that would make the spark fail when cold, but would be ok when the engine is warm. Keep me up to date as to how it is getting on, as I would be very interested to know more .
      Take care.

    • @RestorationBiker

      Hi, If the starter is dead. These are the things to check... Does the solonoid on the side of the bike near the battery 'click' when you are trying to start the bike. If not it could be a solonoid fault. Take the lead off of the starter and see if there is any current getting there when you push the start button. Use a simple continuity tester a bulb and a bit of wire will do the trick. If there is current AT the starter then the starter does seem the culprit. But. Check the battery earth as this could prevent the starter turning if it is bad. Finally remove the starter and put it across a good battery to see if it runs when it is unloaded.. These actions will put you in the right position, to see where the fault lies. Let me know if you get any other problems.

    Hello and thanks for the video. I have a 1994 F650, and it's the white one you see in the wikipedia photo, yes it's mine. Now she has stood still for 3 years in the garage with the battery connected. I took it back, loaded it quickly and tried to turn it on but nothing, it turns the motor but it didn't start. Then after having insisted, and having left her to rest for 2 hours, with the air drawn to half, she left without the accelerator. Today I go down happy but nothing restarts and I heard a "pop" in the exhaust pipe. I put in new petrol but I didn't remove the other one, and I notice that I find a few drops under the bike when I try to turn the moped. Thank you Antonio Italy😀

    • @RestorationBiker
      @RestorationBiker  Před rokem

      Wow, thats amazing that you have the Wikipedia one. If it has been standing for 3 years, it must have a new battery., and all the old fuel must be cleaned out of the tank. The carbs will need to be removed and thoroughly cleaned out. too.
      Then you will have a good chance of getting it running smoothly. The drips you can see is probably coming from the carb overflow tube. Which does suggest they will need to be cleaned out.

    I have a f650 the same and my fuse burn wen i put the light on, sorry i a french 😅, but i don't know wy, regulator of tension ?

    • @RestorationBiker
      @RestorationBiker  Před 5 měsíci

      Hi, you could have a few problems here. Does the fuse only blow when the engine is running? Or does it blow as soon as you turn the lights on? If it blows without the engine running it could be a short somewhere, in the switch or a plug etc. If it is fine with the engine off but blows when the engine is running it could be an alternator or rectifier fault. You will need to do a few tests to decide where the fault lies, as you get more information, it will become easier to locate the fault.

    So in order to check if the starter is working properly, you test the voltage of the battery??

    • @RestorationBiker
      @RestorationBiker  Před 2 lety

      Hi, you have to check the condition, and the output of the battery before you can test any other electrical item. If the battery is good then you are in a position to test the starter. You cannot test the starter or any electrical item until you know you have the correct voltage available. It is possible to remove the starter and test it across a known good battery though. Thanks for your comments.

      Thanks for the response!
      My 97 Funduro upon would hesitate and then surge rapidly before stalling out. I tapped on the carbs as I thought the float may be stuck and when I went to start it back up, I got power to the lights but when I hit the starter I got 1 small click and everything went dead. No sound from the starter or anything.

    • @RestorationBiker
      @RestorationBiker  Před 2 lety

      @@corymichael8445 Hi yes sounds as if your battery is low. The click you hear is the starter solenoid. If the lights dim, or go out when you press the starter button, that is a classic dead battery symptom..

    • @corymichael8445
      @corymichael8445 Před 2 lety

      I charged battery overnight and reset the CPU and it started! But after about 30 seconds in neutral the throttle began to surge really high before stalling out. Tried to restart and it wouldn't turn over.

    • @corymichael8445
      @corymichael8445 Před 2 lety

      Started it on Choke and let it ran then it started to surge before stalling. I'm guessing the jets are clogged?
