If you've been following me you know I've been hinting at a big surprise, well.....here it is!
A few weeks back I reviewed Tyler's Suzuki DR-Z400. My main takeaway was that I loved the weight and power but I would prefer something more comfortable and utilitarian.
It just so happens that about a week later, my father, who lives in Pennsylvania, found a 1997 BMW F650 "Funduro" on Facebook Marketplace for a screaming deal. The bike had 30,000 miles and came with what I believe are custom aluminum boxes! My dad brought it home and decided that he'd prefer to keep his KLR and so he offered to sell it to me. I hadn't ridden the bike. I hadn't seen it in person, either. But I knew this was the bike I wanted. I could rip highways if needed with it. I could load the boxes with groceries or camping gear. I could carry a passenger. It's perfect for what I'm looking for.
On October 1st, in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Ian, I hopped a flight from Asheville back to Scranton so I could pick the bike up. I was going to ride, but with sections of the Parkway closed from the hurricane, I opted to rent a truck and haul it back. I arranged the trip so I'd have an extra day to hang with my family and this video is from that day.
What's more fun than a motorcycle ride with your dad on a day with no plans? I'm going to say nothing is better than that.
A huge shoutout goes to my dad for finding this motorcycle and deciding it wasn't for him. Thanks for selling this to me dad! I'm excited to make some different videos with this bike!

It is really nice to see somebody taking pride of ownership on a classic bike like thatF650. I have a 2010 F650 GS (the 800 cc parallel twin version), and find it to be an incredibly versatile and very high quality motorcyle. So many channels are about the newest, biggest, fastest models, and why you need to "upgrade" - especially in the adventure bike world. Clearly this is exactly the bike you need for the sort of longer adventures you go on, and the type of riding you do. It is terrific to see that it has found an owner who appreciates its virtues and takes good care of it
Man those are some big and butt ugly panniers. The bike looks really sexy with them off....

I agree it looks best with the boxes off, but they’re also cool in the fact that they were made specifically for this bike. I haven’t seen too much of that. The back is shaped around the plastic and the exhaust. It’s really interesting!
They are Jesse boxes. I have them on my 1150GS.
Nice roads! Going to go look at one of these in a couple of hours. It's one hour away and if everything looks good I'll be riding it home. Should be fun.

Hey, I bought mine in 2021 when they were impossible to find. I was kind of at the mercy of the dealer but I paid about $4800 with taxes and fees.
I’ve seen some floating used between $3500 and $4200, and I think quite a few dealers are able to get these now despite their high demand.
