    Good idea on using the strap. I was all set on having to buy a fuel pump module spanner tool. Thanks.

    Thanks for sharing but IMHO you should have cleaned the tank out as is specified in the instructions, Airtex are good pumps, 9 times out of 10 if they fail it’s because of something else that caused it to go out. It’s imperative that you clean the outside of the tank near the pump mounting and the inside of the tank, and check the wiring connector and harness.

    It’ll be great if we could get the steps of how to drop the tank

      Kiknchikn Studios yes I got mine out with two bolts holding the straps on the tank . The tank was half full but not hard to get off .

      You have to disconnect the rubber filler neck hose and the vent hose. Then separate the electrical multiwire plug, fuel line connections, and one or two vent connections on top of the tank. The connections to the actual fuel pump are tricky to separate without breaking the pieces you need to save for reconnection as they are made of fragile plastic. I cut the metal fuel line pipe with a hack saw blade pump side in order to spare the connector piece. I carefully snapped the plastic vent pipe for the same reason That allowed me to take them apart carefully away from the truck. There's not much room to work above the tank once you lower it. You'll see what I mean. Better to sacrifice pieces that come on the new pump rather than risk breaking the connectors. Hope this helps!

    EXCELLENT FILM. I just finished watching. I have been doing auto mechanics as a hobby for over 50 years and this was like watching myself work. When something needs to be done, just get under the truck and do it. You made the task look so simple, it was a pleasure to watch you work. Thanks for the entertainment. (The strap idea was brilliant.)

    I replaced the fuel pump in my 99 dodge 1500 I was driving and it die on me I couldnt get it started I checked fuses and relays I thought it was the fuel pump so I bought one took it to my automotive technology class (when I was in high school) I brought it end my teacher wanted me to check the wires that's before the pump because it's the era when they use peanut oil coated wires. He said," how do you know its the I told him, "went I turn the kye I don't hear the pump kick on. I put the pump in and it started right up like nothing happend.

    at 6:35, you are taking an old piece off the old fuel pump, and putting it into the new module. Could you explain what that is, what it does, and why your doing that?

    How did you drain the tank? I was told it could be drained through the vent hose on the filler neck. Did you do it a different way?

    • @Broncocarl92
      @Broncocarl92  Před 10 lety +1

      I did not drain the tank. The filler neck has an anti roll over valve in it and I'm not sure how you would go through the vent. I was lucky that the fuel tank was not that full. Thanks for watching

    Would your gas possibly leak from this area if it's still manufacture product? (1996 dodge ram 1500 5.2L truck we have and it's got 200,560 miles and don't know much maintenance done to it because previous owners won't reply to texts/calls) we got a gas leak but was thinking of replacing whole fuel tank, filler neck, and this and possibly the lines but if they looked fine then try to re-use em... idk how long we'll have the truck (a year or two maybe most or maybe even 5-10+ yrs)

    • @Broncocarl92
      @Broncocarl92  Před 6 lety

      Tessa Laws yes I suppose. The rubber gasket for the fuel sender could be dried out. Unless the plastic tank is cracked I don't see why it would not be reusable.

      @romanstar7550 Před 7 lety +3

      i started a thread at dodgetalk , at bottom of thread is some info that i copied : this is second time im replacing this pump and know from first time that when doing so on an old truck its wise to replace the trucks wiring harness / connector that clips to fuel pump as they can be brittle and not tight fitting / sealed . so i called dodge and a new harness if 57$ , and thats just a kit you have to crimp together . so im finding harnesses on internet for about 15$ already assembled , still havent found mine yet . but im posting this not just to alert those doing it to consider replacing harness , ive also read info from delphi about testing fuel pumps so figured ide post it . this is copied directly from delphi quotes at amazon :
      A Pressure Test is Not Enough to Condemn the Pump
      High fuel pressure can often be attributed to a fuel pressure regulator issue or a restriction in the return line. The engine may run rich or fuel trims may be elevated.
      Low fuel pressure can be caused by insufficient power or ground to the fuel pump or a malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator. Contamination in the system can cause restrictions to the fuel feed lines, fuel strainer, or fuel filter.
      No pressure can be due to a faulty relay, fuse, wire harness, or oil pressure switch, tripped inertia switch, or dried test fluid.
      What to Check Prior to Repair
      The pump may not necessarily be the cause of fuel-related driveability problems or failures. So make sure to:
      1. Confirm there is fuel in the fuel tank
      2. Check fuel pressure
      3. Check flow
      4. Check fuel filter and pressure regulator
      5. Perform a voltage drop test
      6. Check electrical connections
      7. Clean tank and inspect for debris

    • @billypreston12
      @billypreston12 Před 5 lety +1

      kefied - more then likely installer error like not properly cleaning the tank, airtex pumps are great quality, I have used them for years with no issues, the key is to be sure the tank is like new on the inside and the wiring to the pump is good, and always replace the fuel filter at the same time.

    • @Broncocarl92
      @Broncocarl92  Před 2 lety

      Yes, in another vehicle but still working perfectly. Its funny how people shit talk Airtex and other brands when they have a bad experience.. usually due to them and not the product. If you put a new pump in a dirty rusty tank, I can promise you it will die just like the one its replacing. My 2 cents..
      Take care.
