If ever need your car,van MOT and you haven't got a trusted garage use a council not place as they have no financial gain to make from failing a vehicle.. great interaction from both employees

I took my car for its MOT there last Friday and can confirm it’s a clean site and the members of staff I had interactions with were polite and friendly especially the MOT tester who was superb.

I’ve been going to my local council for MOTs for years that way you don’t get mugged at a garage
Interesting insight into local council operations etc. Didnt realise that they offer private MOTs. 2 Cars parked on Double yellows and even one car partly on Zebra crossing (accident waiting to happen). But i guess its their land and they can do what they want. Nice and friendly staff. Well done.

Local councils also use these MOT stations for local taxi's and mini busses etc, as most councils require taxi companies/owners to do a test every year ( on brand new vehicles ) and around every 6 months for older vehicles ( older than 3 years )
Not all. The asiatics in Blackburn were stamping their feet and crying because the council wanted to put a stop to them getting mots privately.
My only option is to have a government MOT test which could entail a 8 month wait for a test date, the wait is so long it has forced a lot of motorists of the road

Newark council have a big yard and mot testing also on the industry estate aswell as their big new build head offices incorporating citizens advice, housing, council tax etc called castle house.

What happened to all the bottle banks ?
Here in N. Ireland, we have MOTs obviously. However, our system is more controlled. Each county or certain towns have basically government run MOT, testing centres. Not just the local garage down the road? Is it better? Who knows. Seems to work pretty well. The only issue these days is a massive backlog of tests. Still catching up from the thing that happened the other year. In fact last year I was due an MOT, I think June time. Only got it in January this year. They just give an exemption, which is great, but not good if my car wasn't road worthy?
NI has a terrible system, the MOT can only be carried out at a government test centre and you can wait up to 8 months for a test date which forces a lot of drivers of the road
@@rhysallsop Yes I do recall those issues with the lifts etc. Then that stuff happened in 2020. Since then they are playing catch up. Forget the political side of it. Those in charge now aren't helping so that is a moot point.
On a point of interest, took the good ladies car up to Newtownards for the test. Failed on the tyres. Within an hour, got tyres sorted, booked a retest, half hour later, passed. This was the other week. Was it really an issue with tests or a money thing? I know where I sit with this.
But yes I trust our system, because they test the car, unlikely to know you, have no affiliation to a repair person, so no personal interest whether it passes or not. They do the job, and off you go.
@@georgebarnes8163 It doesn't, and hasn't forced anyone of the road. As long as you have booked the MOT, if the police stop you, you show the booking reference etc, all is good. Even insurance is valid.
@@stuartb4525 Most certainly has forced a lot of people of the road, it is impossible to get VED without a valid MOT
@@georgebarnes8163 It's not, as long as you have booked the MOT, have it in writing, as in an email will do, you can get the VED. Same details will keep the police happy if they stop you. They know the backlog is a long one, so they basically give everyone an exemption. I even checked all this business out with my insurance company. They said because the powers that be have given MOT, exemptions the car is still fully insured. Of course with the insurance, they said all this was depending on you knowingly driving it in a roadworthy state to the best of your knowledge, which I would take as their get out of paying clause in the case of a collision etc.

Hi DJ, we are also able to go to the local council depot to have cars, vans, mini busses etc MOT’d, as you say, they’re not failing stuff to try and get your work because they do know repairs, however.. does this mean if the vehicle does not pass the MOT are you then driving away with a vehicle with no MOT.. does the new failed MOT over run your old MOT which may have had a few weeks left 🤔
The answer to that is no if you get the mot done before it's due to run out and it fails the current mot certificate still stands this is why it's always sensible to get it done early 👍
In Ireland u pay in the tax when u buy electric goods and then u can bring anything electrical to a centre for free

Councils have been doing MOTs for 20+years easy in Glasgow
What you filming, anything that moves, well not a lot then lol...we pay council tax, they want the place tidy, it should be free. But having to pay then I guess £26 quid is a bargain for three items, it's £36 quid for three where I live. Fridges and small items of furniture are the easier stuff for them guys to collect, it's washing machines that are harder work. However it's worth noting that if what you want removing is reusable, The Heart Foundation, SOFA Project and Compass Project will take them for free.
