They tried with Kirby GCN I think, but the technology wasn’t there yet. Kind of like Dread. They have been developing the technology for years in games. Kirby Battle Royale was basically the beta confirmation this was going to happen soon.
It's probably because it's difficult to make compelling 3d open world games for characters that can just fly over every obstacle.

It’s so nice to see Metroid FINALLY get the light of day it deserves. I have loved this series for a while (but nowhere near as long as the OG fans) and it was always sad to see how few people knew about Metroid. To see such a resurgence and new people willing to give the franchise a chance, especially a side-scroller, is phenomenal. New fans and old are very happy and I’m very happy to see how welcoming the old fans are of new fans! Let’s show Nintendo that Metroid is one of its best franchises which was unnecessarily made into an underdog!

I personally never really cared about Metroid being one of Nintendo's top franchises as long as it sold enough for them to keep making it, but playing through Dread, I couldn't help but feel happiness for all the newcomers to the franchise who would get to experience this. So many others are gonna get to fall in love with this franchise the same way I did back in 2018.
I knew Metroid before and I knew about their sales situation, but it wasn't like I knew much about the series. However, Metroid Dread caught my attention from its announcement and the way Nintendo was promoting it, until it was nominated for GOTY. My brother gave me the title for Christmas. As of this writing, I haven't finished it yet, but it's a total gem, and it's practically one of the best games of 2021 already.

1- Yoshi maybe will appear (and HAS to appear).

They just chose the most bizarre big-name actors to play these characters. Its Illumination and they probably paid them a stupid amount of money so I'm not surprised, but hopefully they can translate them decently to the bring screen. Otherwise this thing is gonna be memed into oblivion like the 90s film.

@@BoopaKing I'm also really not sure about Chris Pratt for Mario. I don't really see him nailing that voice. To be honest I was never expecting a Mario movie to be any good. But with Charlie Day as Luigi and Jack Black as Bowser I now at least expect it to be a dumb fun movie or a "so bad it's funny" movie as opposed to just plain bad.

Everyone’s talking about Chris Pratt as Mario and Jack Black as Bowser, but the idea of Kevin Michael Richardson’s deep, booming voice coming out of Kamek is just a whole different level of surreal.
I know! Kamek's voice in the games is so high-pitched. I wonder if Richardson is going to do something like his voice for Demongo in Samurai Jack, or even Joker in The Batman.
Yeah, all the voice actor picks for the movie are making me raise an eyebrow. Someone like Bowser should not sound like Jack Black. (Even though some of his RPG dialogue would be the kind of things Jack Black would say).
Also, why have Charles Martinet here if he isn’t going to be voicing the character he is famous for?
It’s one thing when Sonic did it because he’s had a few voice actors come and go.
But… Mario? There was only one other person that voiced Mario besides Charles and I’m pretty sure they’re dead.

I just want to say that the framing for the Splatoon games' trailers being research footage from the squid research foundation is GENIUS!
Also. Judging by my first impression of the new fluffy enemies, and of the "return to Mammals" i think eithed Judd or something human related wanna bring them back after extincion.
They've done the whole "Squid research lab" thing since Splatoon 2 at least. They always write them as if they're doing scientific research and sharing their recent findings.
